    Garbage disposal/ septic question

Maybe that would be preferable, and I run the softener as water/salt efficient as I possibly can. I have it tweaked right out. We plan to build again in 5 years, so maybe not a concern here, but in the future home. I do wish they would have thought of a dry well or something of that nature...

    Does Anyone Buy Used Tractors?

As I recall some JD smaller units have aluminum housings
  123. CloverKnollFarms

    Tractor Insurance

I mean, I’m not totally against not insuring it. My liability would be anything currently exceeding $16700. That’s tied to my homeowners policy. I could reduce the liability by increasing my personal property coverage. The tractor is paid in full, so this is just for personal risk management

    Planting/growing Buckwheat

6 weeks in the ground, blooming for two, it’s still growing! Now it’s chest high! I’m really amazed considering the first four weeks we had almost no rain. This stuff just wants to grow
  125. CloverKnollFarms

    Tractor Insurance

Our homeowners will cover it, but only to $16,700. I have $167,000 in personal property insurance, but only 10% can be applied to an individual item, max.
  126. CloverKnollFarms

how well does TYM HST cruise & auto throttle work for bush hogging vs shuttle shift?

I have auto throttle and cruise. I don’t use auto throttle when I’m looking for PTO RPM. I set the throttle, then use cruise for speed control. Using AT when using PTO implements isn’t really what it’s made for
  127. CloverKnollFarms

    Tractor Insurance

Hey, so with people lighting their tractors on fire this summer, it crossed my mind to see if I was insured. Homeowners covers up to $16,700 per SINGLE item.(personal property) Tractor is worth $35k. Ok, so I'm going to explore tractor insurance. It stays in a locked barn on my personal...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I don't see how a wiring fire burns this hot, or spreads to other components like that. That looks like there was something really flammable in that compartment

    Honey bees

Had some local homeschool kids over today to teach them about bees, beekeeping and how to harvest honey. I have about 40 pounds tied up in comb I needed to crush, so I gave them all potato mashers and let them liquify the stuff. Now begins the long process of straining and filtering it...
  130. CloverKnollFarms

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Most engine compartments catch fire because of flammable debris sitting on hot parts. That’s the most logical conclusion

Comparison ZETOR Brand - I see the ads, but know nothing (Czech ?)

I mean, if you are looking to buy 75HP or less, just buy a TYM. Same tractor, more dealers from what I can see.

    Finally bought a small generator.

Now days a 9500w inverter is only $2700. Sadly my well pump uses 7500w on startup
  133. CloverKnollFarms

    Finally bought a small generator.

Looks like the Generac 18kw LP units only use 1.7 gal of LP per hour at 50% load... So if we have a standby 500 gal tank we will be all set for a power outage and be able to run the house.
  134. CloverKnollFarms

Buying Advice Just buy the darn tractor

Used prices skyrocketed when the supply of new tractors dried up. That was supply/demand. Still, I challenge anyone to post up ACTUAL MSRPs that decline. I wont hold my breath

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Retire at 51. 5 more years. Move to KY where we have family. We are there every month. The plan is a bigger apiary, a few cattle, grow some hay. So we are looking for 20+ acres to buy now, make improvements for a few years, then move down and finish it up.
  137. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Yeah, I usually grab fuel as needed... I use the tractor mainly for getting fields ready to seed in the spring, and tilled under in the fall. We are looking at building another new property in KY, which will be 20-50 acres, and we are on 8 acres now. I'll be going through a lot more fuel...
  138. CloverKnollFarms

  141. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

72” tiller. It really works the tractor when breaking virgin ground. I have 10 hours of tilling my buckwheat field on the clock now… she worked hard.
  142. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Honestly the number that would sway me the most toward the 494 is the fuel capacity at 17 gallons. I’ve only got 11.8. At 1.5 gal/hour under load, you need to stay on top of it.
  143. CloverKnollFarms

Comparison ZETOR Brand - I see the ads, but know nothing (Czech ?)

TYM is actually making many of the Zetor tractors.
  144. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Smaller cylinder, with more flow, would equal faster cycle times. My tiller is probably the heaviest item I’ll be lifting with the 3pt… and it’s about 800 pounds. Some of these rated capacities, probably really push the design of the rest of the tractor. Just because it will lift it, doesn’t...
  145. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Per the TYM site, the 4820 still has more flow. Maybe the website specs are out of date? Either way, you'll be happy. Both will do all that you desire.
  146. CloverKnollFarms

    Rototiller

I have 48Hp, 72” forward rotating tiller. The tractor weighs in around 5000lbs and doesn’t get moved around, even in hard clay virgin ground. I will say, 48Hp is the minimum I’d use in virgin, heavier ground. It took me three passes to get the ground as I wanted for planting.
  147. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

The H pattern range selector is soooo smooth too. Like butter. I heard the old straight throw levers were sort of a bear at times. I’ve really enjoyed the cruise control on mine as well.
  148. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

Say what?? I ordered my 4820. Took about three weeks, and it didn't cost me a dime extra. They even delivered it to my shop.

    4th day with no power

We too had the most lengthy outage we have ever encountered. I bought a 3500w inverter. It will power the fridge, freezers, fans, chargers, etc. It was liveable. The air fryer will run, and I have a gravity fed charcoal smoker to boot. It was like camping, but much more comfortable. We...
  152. CloverKnollFarms

    T494HC vs 4820 CH

I was torn because the 4820 does not have the rear 3pt control, but I had already decided to install a quick attach... So it doesn't make a lot of difference now, especially with the hydraulic top link as well. You can do it all from the operator seat
  153. CloverKnollFarms

    Honey bees

I'm also curious to see if with fewer colonies, we see a noticeable difference in excess honey production. We have never seen a colony fill a hive to 20 frames. I’m planning to run it during the day when we are cooking and in and out of the fridge. In the evening it will get 8-10 hours of rest, check the oil in the AM, fill the fuel and go again. At 25% load, and it’s been running at about 10% load today, it will run 11 hours on 2.3 gallons of 87...
