    Wood working clamps

Either pipe clamps or bar clamps are infinitely adjustable. A 5 foot long one will go all the way down to nothing. It’s kinda aggregating to use a long clamp for short clamp work though.

Would you buy a 30 year old truck with 51 miles on it?

I would put 2 steer tires on and call it a day. The back tires will probably last a long time on a slow speed short haul truck and wouldn’t hurt much if one did blow.

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

How do you think the hydraulic shop is going to make the rods? They are going to do the same thing he’s well setup to do.
  9. 4570Man

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

It doesn’t need to be super accurate. Any accuracy would be lost when you bevel it for a good weld. Cut it freehand with an angle grinder if you feel like it. Just make sure it’s aligned straight when you re weld it.

  12. 4570Man

    Mfwd issues with JD 310g

It’s pretty normal for the outside of the tires to wear faster. Under inflation would make the problem worse. The fronts are pretty high pressure tires at least compared to the back. Have you checked the pressure?

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

A toothed saw blade and heat don’t get along good at all. I’m guessing these are low quality cylinders that a bandsaw would zip right through but in the event that fails just cut the whole thing with an abrasive saw.

Help identifying the type of hydraulic cylinder used in a Rockland Quick Coupler

My skid loader does the same job with a regular single acting cylinder. As long as the pins had a stop so it had to pull both pins vs pulling one twice as far there’s no reason it wouldn’t work.

    Mfwd issues with JD 310g

I’m not saying it’s impossible but I find it extremely unlikely that the back axel could be disengaged and yet still work with the switch. Ditching job

Smaller equipment doesn’t always equal a better job. A big trackhoe could make one pass up the center, clean the whole 15 foot and then throw the dirt way to the side where the little trackhoe is going to be tracking all over the place to get the same job done. A bigger trackhoe has bigger...

Plate tamper for compacting 300m of driveway?

I would roll the road with the dump truck and if that’s not possible roll it with the backhoe. Using a plate tamper on that much road will take forever and they’re not self propelled. Pushing one up much of a hill will be a workout.

    Ditching job

My 16k dump trailer will get you stuck in a hurry with the narrow 17.5 wheels. A dump truck would probably preform better than it does. Ditching job

Agreed. A full size excavator would be a lot better than a mini about being able to get dump trucks close enough to load. But besides that a 5-6 ton would be plenty good enough to dig it out. Question about hydraulics performance on different excavators.

You’re not likely to see a Deere skid loader on my trailer but a Deere mini is a good piece. I’m probably going to run my Kubota 40 until it’s junk with the price things are now. Trailering a Branson 3510

    Used pickup questions

I’d consider 200-250k range to be high mileage vs 100k. That’s almost new by my standards. I’d stay away from a diesel for your use. They’re bringing stupid money right now and the return just isn’t there. A gas burner is completely capable of towing a tractor especially occasionally.
  34. 4570Man

What size dozer for this land clearing job?

It’s hard to clear that little stuff. It’s hard to pull out with without either breaking it off or taking a bunch of dirt with it. My recommendation would be to take a skid steer mower through it and mow all the little stuff then skip the dozer and go straight for the trackhoe to pull everything...

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

Loading the trailer in the field with the tractor and then unloading it in the barn with the skid steer would be a more appropriate use.
  36. 4570Man

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

5,000 pounds is a tiny skid loader. A 10,000 pound skid steer or even bigger will beat the farm tractor especially running without ballast which most farmers tend to do.
  37. 4570Man

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

Not traveling with the load raised is common sense but the fixed frame skid loader is inherently a lot more stable than a pivot axel tractor.
  38. 4570Man

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

Tracks are better to bridge a hole in the ground but they’re worse going across a bump like a curb. Tracks have a longer foot print than the same model with wheels and are more stable and lift more.
  39. 4570Man

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

I have a Kubota SVL75 which a medium sized tracked machine. I’m not a fan of the wheeled ones. They get stuck all the time. This pallet weighed 4380 pounds at the rock quarry and the 75 unloaded it.
  40. 4570Man

Anyone load large hay bales with a skid seer?

The skid steer is plenty strong enough to do the job. The visibility is going to suck with the bale blocking most of your view but I don’t see why it won’t do the job. There’s videos of people with multiple bales at a time on skid steers.

Yes I watched the videos. The side panels, fuel tank and the cab glass is still mostly unprotected. I wasn’t able to see about the belly shields. What to expect from a mulcher on a svl75 standard flow.

A tractor no doubt cuts grass cheaper than than a skid steer but I don’t agree with 1/3 the cost. In heavy brush the skid steer shines. The skid steer comes from the factory sufficiently armored for the job. A tractor needs extensive plating to be ready for the job and probably won’t ever have...

What to expect from a mulcher on a svl75 standard flow.

This isn’t a mulcher but a medium duty rotary cutter. This is only rated for a 4” tree so not as mean as other options but I was happy with the performance. It doesn’t chop up the trees very good and is more of a hack it down tool is the main drawback.

  56. 4570Man

Would you buy a 30 year old truck with 51 miles on it?

It’s hard to find dump trucks with any power but road tractors with power are easy to come by. A cab and chassis truck with a dt466 wouldn’t be my first pick.
  57. 4570Man

Would you buy a 30 year old truck with 51 miles on it?

Agreed that truck will bring a more than 10 grand. And it’s worth a lot more than 10 grand. That’s practically a new truck with no def that needs a little work to be back on the road. The amount of work it needs is probably equal to the sales tax of a new truck.

I’d get a 20 foot 10k trailer or if the cost wasn’t much different I’d probably move up to a 14k even though that’s excessive. I personally don’t like a steel deck and prefer wood.
  67. 4570Man

    Deck over trailer?

I have a deckover and a fender trailer. The deckover has the capability to load wider equipment and is easier to load with a forklift. I think if you ran an excavator with joystick controls for an hour you’d quickly become disappointed with the M59 hydraulic. Question about hydraulics performance on different excavators.

The Tackuchi tb250 outweighs the Kubota 40 by a thousand pounds or so. I’d recommend taking a look at a Deere 50. It’s a tad bigger then the 40 and a more refined piece than the Tackuchi.

How tight should loader pin nuts be on a CK2610 (KL4030C loader)? Is there a torque spec?

Question about hydraulics performance on different excavators.

    Best grapple for a cutover?

If I pile everything up in nice piles it will burn but as far as burning everything where it lays on the ground isn’t happening. It actually works a lot better to start a small fire and continue adding on vs making a big pile and then trying to set it on fire.

I’m working on cleaning up 25 acres for a future development. I need a bigger trackhoe but there’s not a lot to be had and after I find a bigger trackhoe I’ll probably sell my 410 backhoe and get a dozer.
  110. 4570Man

    Large Brush pile chipping

It wouldn’t be any use for that job but have you seen these? This looks like it could be a profitable machine especially compared to using a crane.
  111. 4570Man

    Large Brush pile chipping

I want a mobark but that’s more of a fantasy. Im sure the operating cost is absurd plus the purchase price plus and there’s no real need here anyway with low burn restrictions.

I know it wasn’t your decision. I’m just laughing at the customer.

So a fire would freak out the horses but a wood chipper screaming for several days won’t? And rotting wood releases the same gasses that burning would just slower.

Comparison Whats the best non turbo 40Hp tractor for small farming?

I currently have 5 pieces of equipment with turbos. The closest thing to a turbo problem I’ve had is a coolant leak that wasn’t even directly on the turbo. There’s literally millions of turbos out there and they’re reliable.
  115. 4570Man

Why can’t you burn it? It looks like it’s in a safe spot for it.

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

The biggest problem with those is they cost half as much as your tractor. And they really weren’t designed for peak traction in loose dirt. Short of dozer tracks R1 tires are about as good as it gets.
  117. 4570Man

    Transportation Chain and Binders

Agreed. 1/2 chain is total absurd for securing a 7,000 pound tractor. It might be ok for a guy making 2 trips a year but for someone doing routine hauling that’s way too heavy to drag around. And completely unnecessary. If you can’t manage to secure a 7,000 pound tractor with 5/15 chain then I...

I meant in reference to catching on fire. Like who cares if the aluminum melts when that happens?

    DEF Use & Problems ?

I doubt that tractor has DEF. It probably uses a DPF. A DPF isn’t my favorite thing but it seems to be fairly reliable. A lot more so than DEF. DEF = diesel exhaust fluid. DPF = diesel particle filter.

What attachments should you use on a tractor to clear land.

A tractor isn’t a good tool for land clearing. They’re not durable enough for that work. Usually a dozer and excavator is the go to tools for land clearing. But I’m assuming burning probably isn’t allowed there. A mulcher might be the best solution.
  130. 4570Man

    Transportation Chain and Binders

There’s no need to be that excessive. A 5/16 grade 70 chain working load is 4700 pounds. Using 6 of those is almost 30,000 pounds working load of chain. A 3/8 grade 70 chain is going to rip off the trailer anchor point or bust off the tractor before the chain breaks. Using 1/2 chain on a compact...

Maybe they should add a heavier duty front axel. Front axel problems are high on the list of compact tractor problems. Why would they not truck spread? That’s the fastest least work intensive way assuming it’s fairly level with enough overhead clearance. It makes even more sense of they’re pulling a pup since it doesn’t have to be backed around sideways to dump the truck.

    Transportation Chain and Binders

A cam binder works well for a wheeled machine with a little flex. For a tracked machine or other solid load sometimes you’re stuck with a chain that’s a little loose because you can’t go a link more. You can hook the chain in a loop vs a solid hook point that will allow half link adjustments...

  146. 4570Man

    Transportation Chain and Binders

Because the 2 chains are 2 chains so 2x the working load and the load can’t shift sideways. With 1 chain going through the drawbar you only have the working load of one chain and minimal resistance to side shifting.

Agreed. It would be close to impossible to build a loader/digger that can turn 360 degrees, keep the cab to the side of the boom and not put the engine between the operator and the loader bucket. Giving up any of those features is a considerable disadvantage.
