    Unless you REALLY need the 4WD, could you just leave the carrier, ring gear and driveshaft out of it and run it 2WD? I agree 4WD is useful when mud/snow is an issue, but I run mine in 2WD most of the time here. Searching salvage yards would be my advice also, if you want to keep it 4WD...

    Double check that no "eager beaver" has over filled the oil. My Kaw powered JD does that a bit also. It doesn't need much choke, so I sometimes get a rich condition smoke if I'm not paying attention. It's done this since new. I only have about 30 hours on it, though. Fun way to mow, isn't it?

    I had a 5 foot on my 9N and it did pretty well. It was not too heavy, for that old 3 point, but a 6 footer weighs more. It bogged down if I was trying to push through heavy grass. IMHO, you should trade/sell the 6 footer and get a 5 footer...

    I see 2.2 gal/min on most of the battery ones (on LEVEL transfer - who does that???). What's the lift range? Can it pump from the ground to the tractors fuel tank (hood level)???

    The factory clamps are fine. If nothing is obviously wet, maybe you should just be sure the radiator is full and add some to the overflow tank, then run it - and watch it more.
