Land Pride 8' 3 pt. rotary cutter

Remove 542 loader from JD 5425

HI Guys, Nearly a year ago we had problems starting the JD 5425 while changing the starter motor we discovered some of the teeth on the ring gear were chewed up. So we have been blindly turning the fan and belt by hand in hopes of alining some good teeth with the starter motor, which has...

    JD 5425 not starting

Thanks guys but it seems to be a much bigger problem. We got the starter off ok, but then discovered that there seems to be a lot of damage to the ring gear on the flywheel. Some teeth are worn half way through. I could not believe it. So this means the engine has to be split and a new ring...

    JD 5425 not starting

When you turn the key all I get is a fast turning sound, loud hum. I replaced the starter motor and solid about a year ago when we had similar symptoms. Could the starter or solid be bad already. We do tend to start and stop it often, Probably more so than the average operation. Craig

Steering and loader work slow and jerky

Hi rScotty, I looked it over pretty well this afternoon. I didn't see any signs of leak until I discovered a hose clamp next to the pump that was not completely around the hose. Steering and loader work slow and jerky

Thanks guys for the input. I bought the tractor second hand and then added a loader. The hours were under 1000. After destroying the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission I am thinking that the oil and filter were changed at some point. Everything looked great. I change the engine...

Steering and loader work slow and jerky

Ok thanks guys, your comments make sense. I see in the manual that there seems to be two or three separate reseviours for the hydraulic oil. Is that correct? one is for the sysciShuttle -10 gals. and one for the power Reverse 12 gal. So that's a lot of oil. Do you normally use the JD...

    JD5425 no electric power

A friend from church came over and tested the starter after we took off the tractor. Seems to be fine, but it does bring up another question. For about the last 6 months or so when trying turning the key, I get a grinding noise, as if the solend was missing its meshing with starter motor...
