    HVAC problem this morning.

I had a new Trane 95% efficiency condensing furnace installed 3 years ago. I like the efficiency, but we had some glitches that first season. They installed the water condensing tube to vent on the roof. That worked fine until it got really cold. Then the condensing line would freeze and shut...

Pour a 50/50 mix of diesel and gas down the mound, then light it. The oily diesel keeps the fuel from flashing up all at once, then burning out fast. That’s about right in terms of planting costs for about 300 trees per acre. Pine species regenerate well when you have seed trees in proximity. But the seeds are heavy and don’t travel far from the seed trees (couple hundred feet), so large open areas need planting to establish pine.

    Student Loan Debt?

I said those were not legitimate expenses. But when I compare my minuscule $25k loan debt for four years to current expenses it’s obvious that these costs are not sustainable. Tuition is crazy expensive nowadays for state schools and obscene at private schools. I don’t have an answer. I know...

Whatever you think, school loans were used for dorms and cafeteria meal tickets when I went to college back in the 1980s and I used my loans for those expenses. These are listed as legitimate in the loan application forms: tuition, books and supplies, housing, meals, parking passes. All of those...

    Clear cutting half arsed, why?

This type of outcome is common when a land owner sells timber without a forester developing a forest management plan and timber sale contract specs. This is probably the outcome of a standard logger spec sale contract. Best advice is to hire a consulting forester to assist with timber management...

IDK about other brands, but the cash discount that Kubota offers is negligible. It’s hard to beat the zero percentage financing. Even if you have the cash, investing it will usually yield a higher return over the finance period than the small cash discount.

I don’t know if you have access to one, but what most of our logging contractors use for slash piling is a brush rake on their dozers. They remove the blade and install the “brush bar” in the front of the dozer. It works pretty well to push slash without moving dirt.
