Does anyone know if the collar behind the gland nut on the bucket cylinder is supposed to be removed also. My gland nut is removed but piston and packing will not exit cylinder. Wish I had a repair manual. Here are pics of the collar and gland nut.

I have a GMC 40 foot height bucket truck. When I get in the bucket and raise up,to any height, then let go of the lift lever,the bucket slowly drops back to its home rest point. Don't see any leaks.
