Tricking out the Kubota U-17 mini-excavator

The folks in the Kubota forum don't seem too interested in mini-excavators so I thought I'd share my excitement over here. I bought a U-17 last fall for working around my property and building trails in nearby conservation lands. I bought it with a hydraulic thumb, which delayed delivery by...

Fab a bolt-on plate to make grading bucket?

I am hoping to fabricate a plate to bolt onto my mini-excavator bucket to create a grading or ditching bucket. I have some scrap steel and am trying to figure out an easy way to bolt it on to basically cover the teeth and give me a smooth cutting edge. Here's a couple poor photos of what I found...

Canopy  How to replace AC switch in headliner of cabbed B3000?

My AC switch crapped out and Kubota sent me a new one. I hoped I could take the face plate off the headliner and get at it but no luck. The service guy at the shop said I may have to pop the canopy off, but it was only 4 bolts. Anyone know how to access the back of the climate control panel?

    5' Bush Hog on a BX23?

Is a 5' Bush Hog going to be too big for my tractor? I've done a lot of searching through the archives (and Google), and it seems there are a few people running them. But I have to wonder if it's a good choice. I've found a used 5' in reportedly good condition that's a little more than half the...

Price Check  pricing on B2910 with Woods backhoe

I'm considering trading my BX23 for a B2910 with a Woods BH7500 backhoe and toothbar. The owner of the B2910 wants $16750 for it. He's asking me to pay $5k plus my tractor, which has a Bro-Tek skid plate, Markham toothbar, and Wallenstein thumb and only 180 hours. The B2910 has 340 hours, not...

BX loader problem - iced valve?

I use the loader on my BX23 to clear snow from the driveway. We were hit with a big storm yesterday and I got everything cleaned up before dark last night. When I started up the BX this morning to clear some snow drifts, the loader would not raise or lower, EXCEPT when I simultaneously curled...

    Another BX tool box

I think I first saw this idea on TBN, but couldn't find it by searching. Basically, it's a simple job of removing the handle on the left side of the seat and putting an ammo box in its place. I liked Volfandt's(?) box behind the seat, but mine just didn't seem to want to sit just right (and...

    Building a footbridge

I recently designed & built a new bridge in one of our town's conservation lands. It was a good project that went pretty smoothly. Here's a pic of the old bridge that was replaced.

Backhoe  FEL position for backhoe work?

I am determined to become a competent backhoe operator by the time the snow is gone and spring arrives. Consequently, I've been out regularly digging at snow/ice piles and moving them around. Here's my question: The BX operators manual suggests lowering the loader bucket to give the bachkoe...

    Skid plate for BX?

I've read a number of posts recommending skid plates to protect sensitive areas of the BX. I did a search but could not find anything where someone had done such a project. If such a thread exists, could you point me to it? If not, does anyone have photos or suggestions? My new BX-23 arrived...

Zero tractor experience - operating advice wanted

Oops, accidently posted this in the JD forum! I'm soon to be the owner of a BX-23 (delivery this week), but have almost no experience operating a loader or backhoe. I spent 2 minutes on a large excavator 10 years ago, and 10 minutes on a JD tractor pushing snow 2 weeks ago. I know the answer is...
