Probably been 12 years since I've visited the forum

I still have the PT 180 and thought I'd swing by and say hi. Wondering who all is still active on the forum? Hope everyone is doing well! Bill

    425 vs 1430 on lawns

The other thread on the capabilities of a PT as a fork lift made me wonder how much difference there is between the 425 vs the 1430 on the lawns (imprinting, rutting, etc). By spec the PT website says the 425 weighs in at 1387 lbs and the 1420 at 2560 lbs. I'm guessing those are dry weights...

A small pole building for the PT

Well after several years of reading on here about others building homes for there tractors it is now my turn. :) I need to replace one of those Harbor Freight portable garages that pretty much desinegrated after it's third season. Held up great at first but once the material started to "thin" it...

Electric chain saw for custom pole or boom attachment

Not wanting to hijack Bobs Boom thread I figured I'd reply to one of his messages here as a start to this one... I've looked at some small electric saws like this 12" Remington. This one is 1.5 HP. 1 HP equals 746 Watts so it would be about 1200 Watts. I have to check but I think my inverter...

Grading  Single blade mower deck for the 180

Couldn't find the post where someone asked for a picture of my mower deck so I figured I'd start a new thread. This is the underside. It's a lot like the rough cut with a center bar connected to a spindle and then two short blades attach to the ends.

    PT attachment on Bobcat

I have a friend who wants to put a PT stump grinder on his Bobcat 542B. The Bobcat specs are 8 GPM @ 1,575 PSI ( specs here). The 180 specs are 8 GPM @ 2,000 while the 4xx series is 8 GPM @ 2,500. Seems odd to me that the 180 specs seem like a closer match to his Bobcat. My question is...

    Muffler glow...

Never noticed this before so I thought I'd ask. I was snowplowing with my 180 after dark about a week ago. When backing up to park it I saw my muffler was a nice cherry red! This was the first I ran it after dark and it was also very cold that night so maybe that just made it stand out but...

Winter items to do on the tractor...

Just thought I'd share some work I am about to do on the PT180 over the next week or two. Bought a solar trickle charger from Harbor Freight (currently $13 on sale) and a cigarette plug from Wal-mart (Don't remember the price). I will be mounting the cigarette plug somewhere under the console...

    Damaged lines

Thanks Beechwood! I took your suggestion and checked my lines and sure enough, the opening where the lines exit from inside the console to go to the arms are cutting into the lines pretty good. Their doesn't seem to be any damage from there forward to the cylinders. Now I am wondering how...

    Quick and cheap retaining wall...

I brought my driveway up next to the garage and the back corner of the fill is tapered off about 3' out for a 3' drop. I want to clean this up and minimize the dirt washing out. (picture shows area during the filling process). I was looking around online for the cheapest and quickest way to...

    Some PT180 project pics.

Just wanted to share some pictures of some work I did a few Saturdays ago. I mentioned what I did earlier in this thread here. But I'll recap along the way here... In this one you'll see the 15 tons of fill dirt and 10 tons of slag I had delivered to the house.

    Clearing a drainage ditch...

Thought I'd share this story for those interested. One of the things I have been wanting to do with the 180 is to fabricate some kind of trencher bucket attachment to help clear out a drainage ditch I have crossing the front of my property. It has been filling up with collected soot and grass...

    Making a FOPS

Well I decided to make a FOPS for my 180. I saw PT has a 425 ROPS for sell on their used site for $125 but it is on the northeast side of New York and would be more than I want to spend with shipping. I am only trying to make a FOPS not a ROPS so it doesn't need to be too beefy. This is my...

    Beginner FEL leveling question...

Yesterday I cut a 45" wide (bucket width), 30' long side walk into the front yard. I am not doing anything fancy just going to fill it with slag, level it and place some 16"x16" walking stones on top... Just things I have around without spending any $$$. I tried to dig it about 4" deep...

    Cutting steps into a bank

I have a bank behind the house that drops down over ten feet. I want to make this friendly to walk up and down for family members of all ages. I am thinking about a 6" rise with a 22" run for the steps. I'll attach a cut away drawing of what the bank looks like and what I want to do with it...

    Toothbar on small 180 bucket

This post is sort of a continuation from DML's 180 Trencher thread. Since the topic was changing a bit I thought it best to start a new one. DML's comments brought to mind a good question... If I were to buy a tooth bar for my light material bucket I'd definitely go for an after market...

    Reversing my hour meter... :(

Uh oh... I made a dumb mistake and left my key in and on over the weekend and clocked an additional 30 some odd hours on my meter! Since I'm using my meter to log my time and usage I would like to set it back if I can... Does anyone know if reversing the pos. and neg. leads will make it run...

    Throttle adjustment.

On my PT180 I can only bring the throttle lever down about 3/4 of the way in the slot. Last night I looked under the 'hood' and saw that the speed control lever is being stopped by the adjustment screw. Is this normal for factory settings? What are the downsides of opening it up further...

Throttle position on the gas PTs

Out of curiosity I was wondering how most people adjust their throttle while working. When moving things like big rocks and dirt do you constantly change the throttle between 'loaded' and unloaded times, do you give it just enough for the job and leave it there or do you run full throttle most...

    Robins Service Manuals

As an FYI to those who haven't checked. Robins has a link where you can download there service manuals. Robins - Service Manuals I think it will be Saturday before my 180 gets here so have to keep myself busy reading about something tractor related.

    New PT180 Owner
