For decades we have had the company of wasps living in our outbuildings, hog pen, barns, and in the eves of the house. Putting hay up or cleaning rain gutters always let to at least a sting or two. Usually the doors to the hay loft had several of the nests hanging from them. We usually co...
Background: small family farm, 35 acres is tillable, have been renting out 30 acres to a neighbor at $60 per year per acre for growing small grain. Access to the property is a 10' wide right of way or else use the neighbor's field road (for the large equipment). He has been renting the land...
Two and a half years ago I went ahead and purchased a GT1554 with the 27 HP Kohler Command engine, all went well till the end of the first summer (38 hours) when it started smoking and using oil (1 pint @ hour). Dealer said blown head gasket, fixed it and returned it later that month under...
I've had a orphan 210 (no attachments) for a while and a friend recently gave me a JD 30 series tiller. Everything looked to be there, the bracket, lift linkages and hardware. Last week I decided to try attaching to the 210 and found all went great until I hooked up the drive belt. One of...
Oh well, here goes. After almost 600 hours on my B7300, I need to split the tractor.
Last week I took off the mid mower in order to use my sickle bar mower to hack down the meadow (was about 3' tall). All went well and I put the sickle bar mower back, re-installed the mid mower and put...
A dear neighbor passed away three years ago, (was in his 80's) he had been an electrician by trade but had just tinkered around his 'junk yard' the last few years of his life. He was the kind of guy that if you asked him for advice, he'd always help you out. As a very small boy I remember...
A few weeks ago I was working in the barn and Samm was mowing along the field road. She stopped and asked me if she could skip mowing by the shrub because of the bees. I asked "What Bees?" She said there was a nest and lots of activity. When I saw tree I was shocked. It looks like a Nest...
The house is close to 200 years old. Orig was a one floor cabin. Second floor was added in the 1890's.
the tin Roof is close to 70 years old.
I had to put new rain gutters up last weekend, and got to thinking, if the roof were to be hit by lightening, what could happen. There is no real...
We came across this in a friends attic, lots and lots of neat stuff. Most of the items we were able to figure out, but this one is still leaving us guessing. My best guess is some sort of a fly or insect trap. I'll let you decide.
It's made of metal insect screen, about 10 inches high, and...
At our 4H fair in August, We had Garden Tractor pulls. They were great ! I've never seen anything like it before. Also saw a custom puller with three engines. What a job!
I have a B7300 with a RC60-24B MMM. The Service Schedule says to replace the oil seals on the mower's gear box every two years. Typically I put 50 hours on the MMM per year and replace the oil yearly.
I've never heard of this sort of PM. I have mowers with gear boxes that have years on them...
Between Lompoc, CA. and the field where the flag is planted there are 9+ miles of flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown by seed companies and it's a very beautiful place, close to Vandenberg AFB.
Check out the dimensions of the flag. The 2002 Floral Flag is...
Just saw on the CNN site:
LONDON (AP) -- Astronomers are carefully monitoring a newly discovered 1.2-mile-wide (2 km) asteroid to see whether it is on a collision course with Earth.
Initial calculations indicate there is a chance the asteroid — known as 2002 NT7 — will hit the Earth on...
We have been renting our farmland (aprox 35 acres tilled) to a neighbor (farmer "X") who now is planning to end their lease this fall (maybe). Offical access to our farm is limited to a 8' wide driveway throught woods and across a right-of-way (no way to widen this) . The only other way on or...
After the drought of the summer of 1999 the hand dug well that serves the farm went dry. We started trucking in water while we tried to figure out what to do. Then we had a normal fall and the well came back. Now this year we've had a much dryer than normal fall/winter and I've been taking...
I am planning on adding liquid ballast to my rears (31 X 15.5 - 15). Was planning on using 'used' antifreeze or else RV antifreeze. Would need around 17 gallons each to get 75% fill. I would like to use beet juice, but have not been able to find it around here.
I had thought it would be...
Well, last weekend it was time to dig the potatoes, but we had a problem, due to scheduling problems, my Uncle was unable to be there (to drive the Case) . Lucky for us we now have the Kubota. My 15 year old daughter felt she was able to run the tractor while I did the walking part. She...
Attached is a picture of my 13 year old daughter Nina, holding her entry in the 4H Poster contest.
She researched and put together this display and won Class Champion at the Carroll County 4H fair last
week.
A Special Thank You to TBN, Rick of R&B Manufacturing for the Tilt Meter, and John...
Who\'s to blame:
Let's see if I understand how America works lately:
If a woman burns her thighs on the hot coffee she was holding in her lap while driving, she blames the restaurant.
If your teen-age son kills himself, you blame the rock 'n' roll music or musician he liked.
If you smoke...
In our continuing effort to 'Clean and Organize' we came across pictures of my Grandmother (as a child-She is third from left) growing up in the house we now take care of on our family's farm. We estimate from her age in the photo, that the picture was taken in the summer of 1900. Also in the...
We have been growing our own meat since 96. Pigs (usually bought as pigletts from a friend who breeds them), Steers from the local dairy farmers (as bull calves) since thay only want heffers (neighbor breeds Holstein heffers with Angus bull for smaller calf-easy first birth), and chicks from CT...
I have been struggling with the decision of switching over to using an outdoor furnace. I hoped the wisdom of the board could help.
For those of you who are not sure of what an outdoor furnace is, Basically you have a small shed, located outside, that contains a wood fired boiler, with...
We have entered into a dilemma. And we need some advice. We are caretakers of my family farm and own a house in the corner of the property. The total length of the farm driveway is 1800 feet. 700 feet of the driveway (between my property and the main road) is a county "Right of way" and...
I just replied to a post on extinguishers and it brought to mind an event my wife and I had happen to us 5 years ago. I really believe this story could save a life or two, so I will share.
I was in the Coast Guard back in the 70's, and went through the Two week Dept of Commerce Fire Fighting...
Just curious. . . . I heard from a neighbor (who has a 27HP Yanmar), that Yanmar makes the JD4100. If so, do they also make the 4200, 4300...... Are these tractors manufactured in Japan or are thay assembled in the states using imported parts. If so, at what size does JD make in the states...
I plan on changing transmission juice soon. I have been (the dealer has been) using the Kubota UDT but I plan on using Amsoil from now on. A co-worker is a dealer and can get me the 'stuff', but my question (for you Amsoil/Kubota users) is what grade/type should I use in the B7300 hydrostat...
Wondered how many of you would like to see one. In the 1950's, my Uncle was sent to buy a corn planter and came home with a David Bradley. Everyone made fun of it, said it was a piece of junk, would never last, and he wasted his money. She's still going strong and does all my truck patch...
Newest of the tractor family. A new (used w/less than 200hrs) B7300 has proven herself this winter by keeping the 1700' of stone driveway clear of snow and well graded (a task formerly done with the DC). She takes her place with a 1950 Case DC, 1951 Case SC, 1956 David Bradley, 1977 Sears and...
Some of the early models of the B7300 didnt have a Engine Temperature Gauge. They use a "steam whistle" type of alarm. Only problem is the cooling system need to be air-tight (so escaping steam goes through the Whistle). This wouldn't be the case with a ruptured hose.
I played around with...
Long time reader of TBN. Great Info and people. Was looking at a new BX2200 and B7400 till Aug 2000 when I got a great deal on a 1999 B7300 w/less than 150 Hrs, (it was a repo) FEL had never been used, 60" Mid had no scraches, included service manual and tire chains and rear blade. After...
