How many hours does an alternator last on a NH compact tractor?

My TC29DA has about 500 hours, starts and runs fine, but the tachometer stopped working yesterday. A search here revealed a bad alternator as one possibility, even if still charging the battery. Will attempt to check wires ( p terminal) but curious as to general life expectancy for the...

Used an impact wrench and welded nut to remove seized hydraulic pin

The pin on the backhoe bucket was frozen to the point it had ripped a weld free from a 1/2" steel bracket. Would not budge with lots of heat, PB blast, sledge and drift. So welded a 1 1/8" nut on the end and using the impact wrench back and forth many times it broke free. Dewalt and the Harbor...

Clearing ground vines with backhoe- what a time saver

I'm planting 100 arborvitae and fruit trees around our property but first needed to clear the areas of nearly impenetrable vines ( including poison ivy) and ground cover that has been growing for decades. Dragging the FEL bucket did nothing so decided to try the backhoe. Extending the boom...

Proper use and lowering of heavy 3 point implements on TC29

When lowering a very heavy 3 point chipper back to the ground I try to do it smoothly to avoid unnecessary strain or wear on the tractor, but it is difficult to prevent a bit of bouncing unless I just slam the lever forward and let the chipper drop. Is there a right or better way to lower heavy...

Aftermarket mulching blades for 60" HC deck- did not work well

I have an X739 with 60" deck and the mulching kit, which included Deere's version of mulching blades. They mow very nice. For some reason, I got the idea to purchase different mulching blades - Oregon, that have the 3 or 4 'fins' rising in the back of the blade. Look like the Gators. They are...

Shredding tall ornamental grasses in PTO chipper or take to landfill

I've a lot of 8' tall ornamental grasses on my property that every Spring I have to cut and then dispose of. This year out of curiosity I've run some through my PTO chipper/New Holland TC29 and it comes out decently shredded. My question- am I subjecting my tractor to unnecessary wear and tear...

TC29DA front axle gearbox filler port ?

I seem to recall quite a while back that some of these came with no filler port for the front reduction gearboxes on the 4WD model. I'm changing all my fluids and can't find anywhere to put oil in except the main port on the axle itself. Did I remember correctly that some don't have these filler...

Want Diesel Riding mower. Need to decide b/w AWD and AWS

Hi there fellow tractor people. I have about 3 acres in Connecticut to mow and core aerate, seed in the Fall. I do not have many obstacles but lots of curving to get all the grass areas. I want the diesel, but need to decide between AWD and AWS. I have some hills. (Will not be using for snow as...

Never took my TC29DA to the shop for maintenance

Do all my own filters, oil changes, grease etc. Had it since 2005, less than 400 hours, runs perfect. Only time I'm at 2400 RPM is when chipper attached for a few hours a year, otherwise light duty. Am I making a mistake by not having the experts look it over once in a while? Thanks. Dale

Tiller  Manual says PTO at 540 only for KK tiller

The tiller is still in the crate and am planning on using tomorrow for the first time. Job is to redo an area of lawn that went to weed years ago. I came across a bit of advice on this forum about engaging the ground and even completing a first pass at 1/4-1/2 of the 540 PTO speed. The manual...

Need recommends for continuous duty compressor

I want to build a snow maker for my back yard and will need at least 5 scfm at 90 psi. Any recommendations for a compressor that I can run for 5-6 hours at a time that would cost under $1000? Thanks for your thoughts. Dale TC29DA

    This year's leaf vacuum

I decided to put the motor/blower on the back and make the container airtight. The main advantages are I don't have to worry about rocks damaging the blades-only air goes through the fan, no sticky grass or anything gumming up the fan housing, and the noise is much less for the tractor pilot...

    tc29da stuck in 4wd

Never had this problem before- tried using clutch, in and out of neutral, gently trying while moving very slow forward in low range. Not forcing it though. Thoughts appreciated. Is there a trick? Dale

Oil & Fuel  Cost of operating in 4WD- just rubber and fuel?

Wondering how much time others spend in 4WD and if extended use will lead to problems. The job is to level 1 acre of sifted fill/topsoil with my TC29/6' BB (turf tires) Thanks for your thoughts. Dale

Reversed lift pins on new Box blade-OK?

Got my 6' BB delivered today from TSC-brand is "Farm Force", thought I was getting KK but it seems basically the same. The problem is the way in which the lift bracing was bolted together made the lift pins too wide for the arms on my TC29. So I struggled to get the big bolts loose and rebuild...

Modifying a Tiller for better seed bed prep

Wonder if the blades on my new KK tiller could be safely modified to make it work more like a harley rake or pulvarizer. My thought is to drill and tap each blade to accept one 2" long or so point that would break or bend away before the blade bent on a larger rock or whatever. The points could...

Do you do your own maintenance

Best tools to level sifted topsoil for nice yard

I've been working on my back yard - about 1 acre, sloping away from the house. So far have been spreading clean fill in an attempt to get it flat, will be having topsoil delivered soon. What would be the easiest way to get the dirt fairly flat (with grade for drainage). Box blade? Rear blade...

    Need plasma cutter advice

Planning on making things for my tractor and around the shop and am tired of using a cut-off grinder. I mostly will cut up to 1/4" mild steel but occasionally will need 1/2" capacity-am building some forks out of 1/2" hot rolled. Some of the models I've looked at: HTP 625, Hypertherm 600. Any...

Can I use mild hot-rolled 1" bar for bucket forks?

Can I use mild hot-rolled 1\" bar for bucket forks? Or I wonder if the metal used by Payne's or whatever for forks is a cold rolled or a higher carbon steel? Thinking 1" x 5" and a hybrid upper and lower lip attachment design to allow easy lateral adjustment without loosening anything. Thanks...

    FEL attachment for moving/transplanting trees

I'm getting many balled evergreens, 9-12 feet tall, and am wondering what the best way would be to use my tractor to plant them-bucket forks?. I would also like to be able to move small trees-dig perimeter with BH, then 'stab' into 'ball' on either side of trunk?. I've a NH TC29 with BH and FEL...

    cut sunshade in half

....so I could fit the machine into my garage. Cut all the metal(did not touch the ROPS), made hinges, welded everyting up and voila. Still room for another car. If I had to do over, I would fabricate my own shield rather than spend the $500 it cost (my wife's surprise gift). Someone asked to...

    My new tractor

Well, here it is. I'm very happy! I did a little light excavating being mindful of the 50 hour break-in procedures. It feels and acts 'massive', and the turf tires leave no trace of damage, yet. Thanks for all the help-I love this machine. Dale

    TC26 vs 29

I have 3 acres of yard/field/woods. In order to make 1.5 acres of field into a yard I will be spreading roughly 100 tons of various fills. I have a TC26DA being fitted-dealer looking for a backhoe(756). He also tells me he has 4 29's on the lot and that they are not that much more- he is not...

    warranty service at non-sale dealer

No BX24 yet-made many phone calls and have spoken to several dealers who were recommended here-good prices but a trip. (Reardon and Messick)Now I am looking at trailers too to get the deal done.(I would save about $2K at these dealers) I was told by my most local dealer that if I did not buy...

Need to pick tires for BX24

The main job for the tractor will be to construct a flat yard where there is now a gently sloping field. BX24 will be used to move clean fill/topsoil/compost around and level the area-about 1.5 acres. Some light BH work- planting trees, moving compost and such. Then mowing. Would turf tires...

    Recommendation for CT/NY Kubota dealer

Looking for dealer in Eastern CT/Western NY to purchase a BX24. I'd rather pay more and get good service, as is the advice of many on this very interesting and helpful forum. Is it customary for new equipment to be stored outside at the dealers? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Dale...
