    Starting Over

( I posted this on the main forum page before I realized I should probably put it in the Kubota section) We lived on a beautiful 80 acre farm for nearly 20 years. It was a labor of love. When we bought the ground, it was overgrown, abused, ignored . . . but we saw the potential and had a...

Starting over - the allure of country!

We lived on a beautiful 80 acre farm for nearly 20 years. It was a labor of love. When we bought the ground, it was overgrown, abused, ignored . . . but we saw the potential and had a vision. We turned it into a truly beautiful place. I learned to drive farm equipment and worked my butt off to...

    RTV 900 questions

I've read several threads here about transmission problems with the RTV900. Apparently there have been problems with getting stuck and/or being hard to shift between the speed ranges or between forward and reverse. I am looking at RTVs to replace my Gator but can't really justify the price of a...

    Bio Diesel- any issues?

A new gas station has opened in town selling Bio diesel fuel. There are 5 different grades, apparently differing in the amount of "bio" in the mix. The more the mix contains "bio" ingredients, the more viscous it is (only an issue in cold weather). Are there issues with this fuel for my...

Close Call. Almost burned up my tractor!

I was burning a brush pile today. No wind. We've had lots of rain this Spring. Seemed safe enough. I parked the tractor about 40 yards from the pile (I manage the pile with a grapple) and went to the barn to get a rake, more water etc. Gone maybe 15 to 20 minutes tops. Returned the brush pile...

    L3400 pto question

My Dad is looking at a new L3400. I don't know anything about the L3400 (I have an L5030), so I looked at Kubota's website and the spec's show the pto as "live, continuous with OCR". Can someone explain what that means? TIA

    Grapple project/tree clearing

I have a 5 to 6 acre field adjacent to my pond that is overgrown by hedge trees (osage orange). They are fairly mature trees, many in the 8 to 10" trunk diameter size - way to big to mow, and there are several hundred of them. I hired a guy who has a Bobcat with a saw mounted on an 10' boom (he...

    L5030 Front axle UDT

I changed the gear oil in the front axle of my L5030. The manual indicates it takes 9.5 qts -- but I sure couldn't get that much in. I drained both sides but only could get around 7 quarts back in. How do you get the rest of the old stuff out . . .? Obviously a bunch was left in that didn't drain.

Land purchase, cleanup, house, shop . . .

In 2004 my wife and i bought a beautiful piece of land in Douglas County, Kansas. Over the next few years we did a lot of work - cleaning up the place, building a pond, house, shop (I'm a furniture maker) etc. . . My wife documented the process fairly carefully and consistently so I thought I...

    Prairie Restoration

My wife and I are trying to restore prairie grass on 10 of our 80 acres. I thought some of you might find the process interesting. The field we are restoring has had a very healthy stand of fescue which is a tenacious grass that is very hard to get rid of. Most people we talked to suggested we...

Changing UDT hydraullic flud - major stupid

Disaster has struck! I drained my hydraullic fluid, replaced filters and was starting to refill the fluid on my L5030. I was using a funnel that had a detachable directional spout on it. The spout came loose and dropped in the rear housing and I can't find it . . .It's really hard to find an...

    L853 loader question on L5030

I have a L5030 tractor (800 plus hours) with a new L853 loader (less than 10 hours). The loader is very jerky on the descent . . . very smooth raising, very smooth with dump function, but if the bucket or grapple is high and I'm lowering it, I have to go quite slowly or it is very jerky . . . is...
