Steel building insulation in Ontario (Canada)

I'm putting up an Olympia steel building. Have a quote from the company (well a sub company called Silvercote) for faced fiberglass bats. The quote is fine, but got me thinking, I'd love to do this with rock wool (roxul) instead, but still get the great white finished vapour barrier look of...

Posthole Digger  Braber / agri ease post hole auger setup q's

I bought a agri ease post hole auger from TSC Canada this week (excited!), got it home and hooked up. The instructions are incredibly vague for setup. They say to check the oil level, but they don't indicate on the instructions *how* to check the oil. There's a bolt on the side of the gear...

    Cold starting a 1540

I've been looking through the archives and I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but I have kind of a specific Q related to cold starting. I'm in Canada, gets pretty bitterly cold here. It was around 10F (-12C), had ran the block heater for 20 minutes and attempted to start up my 1540...

Oil & Fuel  1540 front axle leak

Plowing the driveway the other day, I noticed at the end of it, part of one of my front axles was oily. Took a look in the peep hole today, and I couldn't see oil in there, though viewing is really tight. Going to put some hydro oil in and see how much it takes to get it halfway up on the...

Buying Advice  Steel building suppliers near Ottawa, Canada?

We're looking to have a workshop built on our property, been looking at steel buildings. A lot of these sites leave something to be desired, any recommendations for companies to avoid or reviews of steel building kits you've been impressed with?

Looking to get a truck w/ tractor transport in mind (MF 1540)

I'm sure there are a million of these threads, but hoping you guys can help me narrow the field a bit. I've been pulling utility trailers with my old subaru forester for a long time so I have some experience with trailers. My subaru is toast so I'd like to finally buy a truck! I have a Massey...

Snow  Snow blower / blade for a 1540?

I'm a new owner of a 1540. Really enjoy it so far, lots of power, I've been using it for some landscaping, property maintenance and redid my driveway. I'm in Ontario, Canada, need to get it in gear for the winter. 500 foot driveway, I used a 500CC ATV the last two years for it, with a plow...

    Bin forks?

My local TCS has some Agri Ease 3 point "bin forks" on sale. Are these basically pallet forks? The price is good, I'd love to get a set of 3 point pallet forks, I have this idea of putting a lot of heavy stuff on pallets so I can move it around easier. Braber Equipment - 2 LB Bin Fork

    Price Check  L2501 in Ontario

Looking to buy a general purpose tractor for my property, 15 acres of super flat, farm/scrub. Mostly want to do some landscaping, set up and maintain a really nice dog sports yard, maintain the gravel driveway and plow in the winter. At the moment I plow really well with a 500cc actic cat ATV...

Honda GX390 in the winter, not good

I've had so many problems with this engine, attached to a BCS 853 snow blowing in the Canadian winter. Bought the system 2 years ago for a lot of cash, and it's just one problem after another in the winter. I really don't like writing negative stuff on the internet, but I wanted to post this...

Cable or electric clutch for a small engine?

I'm thinking about making my own little two wheel implement, using a gas engine. The engine I'm looking at is mechanically governed with no throttle, so I can't use a slip clutch. I'd like to add some electrical or mechanical clutch so I can start the engine, but my implement won't get drive...

    DIY BCS snow blower weights

I love my 853 with a snow blower now that I've tuned up the carb on it, and put chains on the wheels, really throws the snow. I find I'm constantly having to put some upward pressure on the handle bars, I'd like to add some weight to the snow blower. I know BCS sells weight for them, but I'm...

    BCS throttle control

The past while, the throttle thumb shifter on my bcs hasn't been holding it's place well. Yesterday it got really bad - you'd throttle up, then it'd fall right back to near idle - super annoying. Remembering friction shifters from bicycles, I tightened up bolt holding the throttle control...

    Bush mowing the pasture

Thought it would be fun to post up what a BCS with the 32" mower can do. Might be hard to tell, but that grass is about 6' tall.

    LGT45k54 drain plug loose

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find anything in the search history. I changed the oil on my lawn tractor the other day, noticed that the drain plug for the oil is loose. I can finger tighten it, but there isn't enough clearance to get in there with a wrench or...

    Gallagher S16, super weak zap

Hey there. I bought a Gallagher S16 solar energizer to protect a 28' x 35' bee yard. The charger's been charging up outside for a few weeks now. We wired up a strand today (turbo wire), hammered a grounding rod into the ground. I connected up the ground and wire with the clips they provide...

    Utility scoop + BCS?

For a while now, I've sort of wondered if something like this ever existed, just found what I had been thinking of on youtube. Was something like this ever made for BCS? Gravely utility scoop dumping - YouTube

Starting an old homelite XL12 saw

I picked up an old homelite XL12 saw. Nice little thing, I plan to use it for clearing underbrush. I found an old manual for it, where they say to start it, you should start it with the throttle in all the way and choke on. Is that right? I've had a hard time starting it, but up to this...

    Anyone use a disc harrow?

I see earth tools sells a disc harrow for the BCS. I'm considering getting one to run over field I've previously bush mowed, to chop the heck out of goldenrod and other nuisance roots before reseeding, and before tilling. This stuff clogs up my rototiller pretty well, not ideal. Just curious...

    Bush mower high rise?

I want to mow some really uneven trail behind my place with my bush mower, mostly taking out small saplings, underbrush, etc. Too many rocks to take my bush mower back there right now as is. Has anyone ever made extension skids for their bush mower? If I could get it 8" or so off the ground...

    Snow blowing

Finally fired up my BCS snow blower. The reviews are correct, it really canons snow away, good fun! I found engaging the diff lock is really useful to avoid wheel spin. I could really use wheel weights and/or chains, the machine definitely wants to float and the snow isn't even that deep yet.

    BCS 853 sticky brakes

The drum brakes on my 853 are a bit sticky after it's been siting for a bit. The unit is pretty new, but I put at least 30 hours bush mowing on it so far, I'm guessing something could be cleaned out. It's pretty annoying, starting it up and the unit wants to turn hard for the first little bit...

Where to buy tires for the BCS?

I was wondering if you fine folks could give me any tips for where I could find tires and rims for a BCS 853 locally (Ottawa, Ontario Canada.) It seems like if I could avoid internet shipping, etc, that would be great. Are they a common ATV tire size or a pretty custom/proprietary bolt circle...

    BCS Bush mower questions

Hi there! I'm strongly considering getting a 853 BCS tractor for a number of tasks on a 15 acre property I'm moving to soon. I'll have a 2.5 acre fenced area I want to mow, and some other areas I'd probably knock down once or twice a year (I'm really looking forward to having a bush hog...
