Snow Equipment Owning/Operating  snow pusher vs snow blade

I am looking to purchase either a snow pusher or a snow blade (with hydraulic angle) for my tractor. I currently am using a back blade and bucket, which get's the job done, but isn't very efficient. I've priced out the pusher and blade and they seem pretty comparable. So, now I'm looking for...

Just picked up a Stihl MS150 C-E today for trimming trees at our new house. Can't wait to try it out.

Oil & Fuel  Changing the fuel filter on a MF1643

Has anyone changed their fuel filter on a MF1643 (or any 1600 series tractor)? Mine is going to need changed fairly soon and the owners manual really isn't very descriptive. I've never owned a diesel before and it's my understanding that the fuel system needs to be bled after changing the fuel...

Box Scraper  hydraulic box blade recommendations

I am looking for a box blade with hydraulic scarifiers. I think I have it narrowed down to a Landpride HR25 series (72") and the RHINO HB72 (72") box blades. Does anyone have any first hand experience with either of these blades? Are hydraulic scarifiers worth the extra cost? Are there any...

    Steering on 1600 series MF

I have a MF 1643 HST and I notice that if I'm sitting still and turn the wheel, it will only turn the tires a small amount and then stop. Doesn't matter what the engine RPMs are. Once I start moving, the steering has full motion. Is this normal?

Oil & Fuel  Front axle fluid

I wanted to get some opinions on what fluid to use in the front axle of my MF1643. According to the owners manual, it states to use Permatran III, but that seems really thin for axle gears. I'm inclined to use Mobi 1 75W90 synthetic. What are others using? Thanks.

Is it necessary to bleed the hydraulics?

I recently changed the hydraulic fluid on my Massey Ferguson 1643. I have a DL120 loader on it and its a hydrostatic transmission. I've been using the tractor for the past 3 or so hours and every thing seems to be working just fine. I was glancing through the owners manual last night and...

    Grapple  My new Bobcat grapple

My Bobcat RG48 grapple finally came in last week, so I picked it up Saturday from my dealer. Hooked it up on Sunday and took some pictures. I haven't had time to use it yet, but I am certainly looking forward to putting it to work!

    New rear remotes on MF1643

Finally got a set of rear remotes added to my MF1643. Only regret is that I didn't get them installed from the start.

    hydraulic fluid change

Changed my HST fluid last night on my MF1643. Couldn't have been simplier. After filling up with fresh fluid, I started the tractor up, raised and lowered the FEL and 3PH multiple times and then drove it around. When I returned to the garage to check the fluid level it was down about a half...

    Timberwolf TW-P1 on the way

After more research than I care to remember, I placed an order with my local dealer today for a Timberwolf TW-P1 log splitter. I also ordered the optional table grate. Hopefully I'll have it within the week and be splitting wood next weekend.

    Snow Equipment Owning/Operating  Plowing snow!

We picked up about 6" of the white stuff in SE Michigan. I went out and cleared my driveway with my MF1643 for the first time. Lots of fun!! The drive is about 75' long. I used my FEL and rear blade. Having a tractor sure is nice...now only if it had a cab!

    Rotary Cutter  Winter implement storage

Its that time of year in Michigan to put away the rotary mower for the year. Unfortunately, I don't have room in my garage to store my bush hog, so I have it sitting outside on cinder blocks. My question is, should I place a tarp over it or just leave it exposed to the elements? How does...

    top and tilt usage

I'm thinking about adding at least hydraulic top control to my tractor and possibly top and tilt. I've read that most people use the top control 80% of the time and rarely use the tilt function. I'm wondering if those of you who have both top and tilt find you use both functions and if so, can...

    Grapple  ANBO vs Construction Attachments

I am in the market for a grapple. After doing tons of reading, I think I have it narrowed down to the ANBO UT-X 61" (~$2800) or the Construction Attachments 1RGCMP60 60" Compact Root Grapple (~$1800). Looking at the specs, the two look fairly similar. I know ANBO has an incredible reputation...

    Remove the battery for storage?

Just wanted to get people's take on removing the battery for winter storage. I have a JD X320 and this is the first winter I'll have it. Is it necessary to remove the battery or even just disconnect the leads?

    Recommended brand of logsplitter?

I'm in the market for a stand alone, gas/diesel powered logsplitter. I split 5 cords or less a year. I really like the Timberwolf or Wallenstein splitters, but they maybe overkill for my purpose. Whatever I get, I want it to last 15 years minimum. I take great care of my equipment, so I...

    Traction  Differential lock on MF1643

I was doing some 'test' driving yesterday with my MF1643. I was getting more familiar with some of the features of the tractor, one of which was the differential lock. According to the manual, it should only be engaged when the tractor is stopped. However, I noticed that most of the time if I...

50 hour service on MF1643 with pictures?

I need to complete my 50 hour service on my MF1643 fairly soon. Does anyone have pictures from their service? Looks straight forward enough, but the diagrams in the owners manual aren't exactly clear. Don't want to loosen the wrong plug!!!! Thanks.

    Dealer  Poor dealer service

I am simply amazed that certain dealers remain in business. I stopped tonight at [dealer name removed] on my way home to get an oil filter for my Massey Ferguson 1643. The parts department didn't immediately know the number for the filter, so they called someone and after about 10 minutes they...

First oil change BEFORE recommended time interval

I recently purchased a new Massey Ferguson 1643. The owners manual recommends the first oil change at 50 hours. I don't put a lot of hours on my machine, so I probably won't hit 50 hours until a year from now. To me, that seems like a very long time to have the factory oil lubricating the...

    Work lights

Has anyone added work lights to their 1600 series? I'd really like a rear work light. I see that MF sells one on their website. Does anyone have any experience with it? If so, positive/negative? Thanks.

    Loader  limiting loader hydraulic pressure?

Is there a way to limit the loader hydraulic pressure on the 1600 series CUT? I have a DL120 loader on my 1643. The controls are really sensitive. I'd like to adjust them so they aren't so 'jumpy' if possible. I read through the owners manual a couple times, but didn't see anything about it...

    MF1643 power steering issue?

I have a quesiton for anyone out there with a Massey Ferguson 1600 series tractor. I just got my MF1643 last week and noticed something strange last night while doing some work in the yard. I noticed that if I'm sitting still and move the steering wheel from lock to lock, it does not turn the...

Oil & Fuel  10W30 synthetic oil

Need some advice. I just received my MF1643 yesterday with 1.1 hours on it, so I have a ways to go before the 50 hour service, but I wanted to get some opinions. I was reading the owners manual and it recommended using 10W30 in the temperature ranges I'll be running. I'd like to use synthetic...

    FINALLY!!!

Well after months (and I do mean months...order was placed on February 26, 2010), my new MF1643 arrived yesterday. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Unfortunately, its debut was spoiled by rain, so I was only able to drive it from the yard to the garage, but I hope to get plenty of seat...

    Comparison  JD4120 vs MF1643

I need some advice. I have been struggling with trying to decide between the John Deere 4120 and the Massey Ferguson 1643. I have looked at the spec sheets until I'm blind. I've test drove them both and priced them both out. I like the fact that the MF uses a naturally aspirated engine vs...

Rotary Cutter  opinions on used Woods rotary cutter

I'm looking at purchasing a used Woods rotary cutter. Its a 60" cutter. As you can see from the picture, the right support was damaged unloading it from a trailer. The dealer is asking $650. Do you think that's a good price? Any concern with the damaged support? Thanks.

Rotary Cutter  Land Pride vs Woods

I just purchased a MF1643 and now I'm looking for a rotary cutter. Any thoughts on which is better? A Land Pride or Woods? I'm looking at a single spindle 60" cutter. Any thoughts on sheer pins vs slip clutches? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Buying Advice  M-F 1643

Hello everyone. First time posting. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a new M-F 1643 with a DL120 loader. I've also been considering the JD3520, NH2035, and Case IH 35. From what I can tell, the M-F is a much better built tractor. Anyone disagree? Thanks for the advice.
