When does a tractor become 'Vintage'

Why do tractors need a different definition? My wife sells vintage jewelry. Vintage is normally defined as 20-99 years old, and antique 100+.

Toothed bucket vs bolt on tooth bar?

I bought my Kubota B3030 with a bolt on tooth bar with replaceable teeth (never had to replace). It performs significantly better excavating, and it can be removed in a minute (two bolts). With it on, you can only smooth with the back corner of the bucket, not the edge. I need to remove the...

Who knows about stacked-block retaining walls?

It seems like you're using the fabric to keep the dirt back. I believe it's intended to hold the wall in place, with the backfill being securely compacted in layers. That said, I don't think those blocks are designed for a wall tall enough to require geotextile fabric.

Who knows about stacked-block retaining walls?

Airbiscuit showed the proper use of geotextile fabric, between the blocks, level into the fill area, to hold the wall back (useless if not attached). Not clear what your fabric would actually accomplish. My 1600 blocks are 90+ pounds each, filled in and behind with 57 stone gravel, with...

Did you invent the pet rock? Okay, not the same, but there are so many simple solutions we don't even think of. You, sir, are a genius (confirmed today)!

    Trailer Weight Distribution

I have a Kubota B3030 with loaded tires and an 18' utility trailer with a beaver tail. I haul the tractor like picture 2 with either my BH80X BH or the Woods Brush Bull. The loaded tires go between the trailer axles, balancing the load of the tractor to either the BH or mower. The drive-on...

2 post or 4 post vehicle lift ideas

Thank you for your service (me, too) and this highly followed thread. Moving the lift, safety, drip pans, jack platforms, etc. skew toward 4 post for me. With the added 11,000-pound capacity and dually trucks mentioned (still with wheels), I am seriously considering this one, so you may also...

Why don’t you own a toothbar?

I bought my Kubota B3030 with a bolt on tooth bar and a Woods backhoe. The tooth bar slides over the bucket edge and mounts with 1" bolts on each side. I feel the tooth bar gives me one the best returns on investment I've made. I have installed 1600 90-pound blocks in eight retaining walls...

How hard is it to learn to use a rental mini-excavator?

I've also rented on weekends. Most machines have hour meters. Over eight hours (with a little leeway) is charged either proportionally or in full days around here, depending on outfit.

How hard is it to learn to use a rental mini-excavator?

Spot on! The best combination of frustration and satisfaction. Every time you use one, you will gain valuable experience. Also, OzarkChris made an important point, " BTW, it's much easier to pull the stumps if the trees are still attached." I dig the roots first and pull the whole tree over...

How hard is it to learn to use a rental mini-excavator?

I have a Woods backhoe on my Kubota B3030. The controls on the backhoe use the John Deere pattern. The mini-excavator I rented had the switch on the control box mentioned below. Learn one technique and you can operate both. Note the mini-excavator turns with foot pedals. John Deere "BH"...

    Floor jack

I also bought one with a 25% off coupon. If you have a vehicle with high ground clearance, or need to use one on gravel, this one is amazing. The design with the handle lock and the built in lift height extensions (even the Allen wrench) shows exceptional engineering. If the wheels break...

    Exposed Aggregate concrete help

    Rollover paranoia

BTW, you can buy wheel spacers for your B3030, as i have them for mine. There might be a problem with clearance if you have a mid-mount mower (not sure if it's the 60 or 72"). Dual wheels are not authorized, even if you could find them. I mounted an inexpensive inclinometer on my dash, as our...

Old Timer Lookin to Downsize Large Professional Shop

I must admit I'd love to come look, but I am married, we used to live in Manassas, and I don't plan to be a p**n star.... +1 for the Rasmus brothers. I've dealt with over 20 auction places; they have changed the market for sellers. Most everything used to be cheap; not so now. It's a lot...

Cutting ATV trails into cross slopes

As much as it pains me to write this, if you have already defined the scope, and it's going to require something heavier than you own, you may want to consider a bid from a pro or two. The results may be better and the cost may be competitive. Hope I'm not banned for this.

Cutting ATV trails into cross slopes

Code54 is right that a mini-ex is the best way to go if: You already own a mini-ex or you can rent one and get it to your location reasonably and you have a lot to do (or most of what you want to do) all at one time and/or you have large rocks or trees where you want the path...

Cutting ATV trails into cross slopes

Once I cut several actual trails this way, I have needed the box and back blades to keep them up. Once you cut into the hill, you need something the keep the trail level or nature will take its course.

Cutting ATV trails into cross slopes

Well, I'm certainly not a pro, and I've used a mini-ex, which is so much faster. But, if you have time and want to save money, here's what I did with a Kubota B3030, FEL with a tooth bar (the cheapest, best attachment IMO), and a Woods BH80X. First, the hill. Third picture shows the first trail...

year-round fabric cover for more delicate tools/implements

Maybe not for you, but I store my tractor attachments on warehouse shelves under excess billboard tarps: a large black one on back and top to conceal from the rear, and smaller white ones in front I can lift to remove equipment with forks, if necessary. Billboard tarps are much stronger and more...

Need a Primer on Tractor brake lock

Your FEL will stop you if you back uphill; but won't do much driving up. I have a Kubota B3030 which is also HST and my lot has very long, steep slopes. I am handicapped, so I don't have quite as much leg strength as most of you. I believe the comment about brakes having more stopping force...

    This Bank is KILLING Me….

Before we were married, my wife had a yard service that used a zero turn ride on for most of the lawn and a hydrostatic walk behind for her steep hill, which may or may not be as steep as yours but seems many times wider. I bought a used one with a Velke/sulky (less than she paid the service...

    Disable tractor seat shut-off?

I have a Kubota B3030 HST. If you are off the tractor seat, the engine will kill if you push the HST pedal, if the PTO is engaged, or if the HST speed control is engaged. I installed an ammo box behind the seat but noticed it will engage the top of the seat and hold it down. On my steep...

    ZTR or Rider?

My wife had a lawn service company before we were married on her 1 acre lot with lots of trees and hills. They used the ride on zero turn for most, and a walk behind zero turn with a Velke/sulky to mow the steep hills sideways. I got a used Ransomes Bobcat with a snow blower attachment for...

Removing / unscrewing a broken off pvc male adaptor

These work well when you have to remove a pipe that's glued into a fitting and save the fitting. It's possible you could use this to drill out the pvc from the male fitting, then glue another piece of pvc back on, either to remove the old male fitting or just to replace what broke...
