County says no camping on your own land !!

What a bunch of BS. Glad I live where I live. No county ordinances. You can build as close to the road as you like. County board just tried to enact some "rules" created by the head nurse at the health department. About everyone in the county showed up and were up in arms over it. The board...

    Modern Times

I've posted this once before, but its one of my favorites, so I'll post it again. This is a shot I took last year from my front yard of my next door neighbor laying plastic mulch and drip-line irrigation. It had just hailed last April and punched holes in his plastic. He had to rip it all up and...

    Wood stave corn crib

Here's a photo of an old wood-stave corn crib I just bought. Going to move it to my 1886 farm next week. It'll look good setting next to my old barn and machine shed, both constructed in 1886. The owner said that back in the 60's his dad put up a concrete silo and they took this one down, cut it...

    Wood-Stave Silo

Just "picked this up". An old wood-stave silo. I will be taking it apart and moving it to my place. It will really look good next to my other 19c. buildings. It is made up of 3" X 5" tounge-and-grove clear lumber, redwood I think, placed in a circle and banded together.

    Allis-Chalmers Disc

I have two of them. I replaced the wheel bearings on both at NAPA. They know how to measure bearings to get exactly what you need.

    My Mennonite Neighbors

Here's some photos I've taken of my Mennonite neighbors. They started moving in around me about 10 years ago from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. So these are from the original settlement of Mennonites. They are Old Order Mennonites. Some might call them Amish, but when I ask them, they say they...

    Farm Junk

Believe it or not, I paid $50 for the Case Binder at an auction. It was going to the scrappers for junk.

    Butchering Chickens

Everyonce-in-a-while I take some chickens to the Mennonites for butchering. The last time I dropped some off I noticed a row of 4 or 5 cones nailed to some trees next to the lane. Its a pretty neat device and simple to make and use. It makes cutting the heads off a cleaner and safer operation...

How do I get rid of ticks ???

Here's photo of my Tick Pickers. I never have to feed them. They get enough on our property and the fields around us. They do a pretty good job keeping the ticks down in the summer. You have to raise them on the place for them to stay around. They return to their pen in the evening.

    Pumpkins

Here's what I did with them last weekend. Our Mennonite neighbor across the road raises about 10 acres of these every year. I dumped about 3 of these buckets full in the back of the property.

    Self Sufficiency - Small Steps

We live on an 8 acre, 1886 vintage farm with most of the original buildings and house. Bought it on contract for deed back in 1982. It is prime Illinois farm ground and we have no codes in our county. You can build where ever and what ever you want without checking with anyone. I just play at...

    Gundlach Shovel Drill

Here's some photo's of my Gundlach horse-drawn grain drill. I got it back in August 2011 from a local farmer. The first picture is exactly how I found it up in the rafters of one of his barns. He said it was his grandfather's drill. He got it down with his backhoe and this next picture is of...

    Dane Corn Cutter

It has Dane Steel Safety Corn Cutter embossed around the steel orbit of the front wheel. I guess they meant the two boards that flip up and down over the cutting knife made it a Safety Corn Cutter (in words only) Its a two row corn cutter. A man would stand on it and catch the cut corn stalks...

    Dane Corn Cutter

Dane Steel Safety Corn Cutter This is one of the rarest items in my collection. The corn cutting sled was the first invention that mechanized the cutting of corn. After this came the corn binder (I have one of those also, an IHC corn binder.) The Dain tractor was the fist John Deere tractor.

    Mennonite Produce Auction

Nice tractor you have there. Looks like a DC. I've got a 47 Case SC in my collection. I've also got a Case grain binder that I plan on putting behind the SC, when I get it running. My icon is of the Allis WD hooked to Case binder.

    100 hp Duetz Air-Cooled Diesel

    100 hp Duetz Air-Cooled Diesel

I took this photo from my front yard. My Mennonite neighbor uses it to till up his 20 acre truck patch. I was over there talking to him one time and we were comparing tractors ( I have a couple of Allis WDs, maybe 24 to 35 HP) and he said this was 100hp. So you are looking at a 100hp Duetz...

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the drive pulley lose? This one is either rusted, or glued on. Rigged a puller with no luck. Have heated it with a tourch, no luck. Is there a set screw I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
