The nice folks at tractorsmart.com informed me that there was a service bulliten on the broken pto case covers on the older b6100/7100 tractors. The fix is to replace the pto and 5th/reverse shafts and the two gears. A little pricy but better than buying a new tractor.

If I am lucky enough to find a junk pto case cover for this obsolete B6100 this sucker is going down the road.
