    Gear oil for rotary mower

I have 3 tractor attachments (flail mower, tiller, rotary mower,) with gear boxes, and they require 3 different grades of gear oil: Flail Mower: 75W-90 synthetic Tiller: GL-5 85W-140 Rotary Mower: SAE 90 I’m about to change out the oil in the rotary mower and tiller. The oil in the flail...

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

Yes, I was aware of this. I applied the tape a couple of threads below the tip, and also made sure I wrapped in the proper direction.

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

For the most part I think I have the leaking resolved. I redid the fittings using teflon tape. Initially results were pretty good, but there was a slow leak with one of the fittings, maybe a drip every 5 seconds. Still, a vast improvement over the constant flow I was seeing before. I then...

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

I did a bit more research. From what I've read, NPTF is designed to not need any type of sealant, whereas NPT does need a sealant (mine is NPTF). Also, reuse of NPTF connectors is not recommended due to the deformation that happens during tightening, but if reused, then a sealant is recommended...

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

I went to a local hydraulics store and was able to get the exact same couplers. They seem to be working well with my existing remotes. I was also able to get the 1/2" to 1/4" adapters. They aren't working so well. The leak badly on the 1/2" side where they connect to the hose. The 1/4" side that...

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

I pointed out the my 4010-2P looked different than pictures I see when vendors sell this item. Here's what I mean. First pic is mine: Second pic is from a vendor: These just don't look the same to me, but maybe it's ok.

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

The 4010-2P and 4050-2P are 1/4" according to the Pioneer catalog. See page 4: https://www.parker.com/literature/Quick%20Coupling/Catalog%203900%20Pioneer%202012_SectionA%20Quick.Couplings.pdf And the new mower will come with (as quoted from the seller): "Hose ends that connect to the tractor...

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

One other thought. If I can't find compatible couplings, couldn't I remove the quick connect plug from the valve bracket and attach it to the hose, so it can pair up with the socket still attached to the valve bracket. Then I can buy pretty much any 1/4 coupling for the hookup of the second hose.

Need help ordering new hydraulic couplings

I have a Gearmore 3 spool hydraulic control valve for a top-n-tilt kit that the Kubota dealer installed installed when I bought my B2620 in 2008. I've only ever used 2 of the 3 remotes. Now I'm getting a flail mower with hydraulic side shift, so I'll be using the 3rd remote with it. The flail...

Your Yearly Cost of Tractor Ownership

Adding to my previous response, this is not the only cost. Loss of investment income ends up being a very big cost. It's overlooked because it's not taking cash out of your pocket, but it is preventing cash from going into your pocket.

Your Yearly Cost of Tractor Ownership

Eventually you pay it off, and the money you've put into it is not otherwise working for you as an investment. Let's just assume you pay cash up front. If instead you invested the money and earned 10% a year on stock investments (which is considered about average), you'd double your money every...

Is country line stuff any good compared to land pride?

I can attest to that. I bought my Kubota in 2008. Wanted a 48" tiller to go along with it. Dealer wanted to sell me a Gearmore (very common expensive brand sold by tractor dealers in California) for $2300. I balked, and went looking for something else. TSC had a KK for $1100, but did I really...

Woodmaxx vs Betstco vs Nova vs other?

Bit late to this party, but wanted to comment on the King Kutter tiller. I'm very happy with mine. I have a 48" that I use with a Kubota B2620 (19.5hp PTO). Purchased it in 2008. Don't use it a lot, but it's always worked great. But here's the better part of the story.. If you are on the west...

Rotary Cutter  Time for new rotary mower blades?

I just bought a 25 year old Befco 4' rotary mower. The owner said the blades are original. They are very rounded at the tip/end. I'll only be using the mower once a year to knock down about 1 acre of annual (winter) rye. The field is rock and obstruction free. I had been keeping it mowed...

replace transmission fluid and front axel case oil at 50 hours?

Was I suppose to replace transmission fluid and front axle case oil in my B2620 at 50 hours? The owner's manual for the B2620 does not indicate they need replacing at 50 hours (not until 400 hours), but the Workshop Manual says they do (see page G-13). Which is it? My Kubota dealer does the 50...

Mysterious missing bolt on B2620 cylinder head

Looking in the engine compartment today of my B2620, I noticed a place on the cylinder head where a bolt is missing. I'm pretty sure there used to be a bolt there, because the area that the bolt head would normally cover is now rusted, as are the threads inside the bolt hole. If there was never...

Old diesel in a seldom used tractor

Hello, I have a 6 year old Kubota B2620. My usage has dropped off since I first purchased it, and it now takes 2+ years to go through a full tank of gas. I was wondering what would be the best approach to adding new fuel given my light usage. Should I keep it topped off after each use, or try...

    How to test for diesel

Last week I filled up a 5 gallon can with what I believe was diesel. However, about a day later, before using it, I got a bad feeling that I may have filled it up with regular unleaded. Today I checked the can and the fuel is not dyed, so I went to the same station and filled another 5 gallon...

Rake  Using a landsacpe rake without a toplink

Has anyone tried using their landscape rake without attaching the toplink? I just gave it a try and it seems to work pretty well. I have guage wheels, and usually I would use the toplink to control how much the tines dig in. Problem is that I don't have a hydraulic toplink and find I need to...

    potassium chloride price doubles

I was just in Home Depot to buy a couple bags of potassium chloride (40 or 50lb bags). They rang up for $18.99 each! I said that must be a mistake. Last time they were about $9 each. The cashier checked again. Still $18.99. I told her she should inform a manager that the price has been...

Is this the Prince SV valve I want?

View from rear of tractor. The ports with brass caps are for the FEL cylinders. You can clearly see two. You can also barely see the other two just below and behind the two that are visible. The visible gray port with the metal hose runs under the driver's seat and disappears into the tractor...

Is this the Prince SV valve I want?

My dealer will by doing my B2620 TnT installation for me, and said I could provide the cyclinders and valve assembly if I did not want to go with the standard Gearmore setup. He'll provide all other parts, including hoses and mounting bracket (same as the one used by Gearmore), and do the...

B2620 shuts down after leaving seat

I've been having a problem more and more often with by B2620 shutting down once I leave the seat. I know, you are all thinking I left the PTO engaged, but that is not the case. My dealer gave me a long lecture on this before I even received the tractor, telling me NOT to call him if the tractor...

How much 3PH leakdown is too much?

When my 600lb tiller is mounted on my B2620 and the 3PH is raised, it drops about 1" every 5 minutes. Also, I've noticed when nothing is mounted, the 3PH arms eventually end up down to the ground, but I'm not certain how long this takes. Is this expected? The tractor only has 20 hours. Does it...

How to properly adjust King Kutter II slip clutch

How do you know if you've properly adjusted the slip clutch for 48" King Kutter II. The directions say to tighten 1.5 turns, but "further adjustments may be necessary". This is done after first losening the nuts and then hand tightening them until they make contact. However, it took 3 or 4 turns...

Need recommendation for B2620 TnT setup

I'd like to get top-n-tilt for my B2620, but am unsure of the best approach. This is a topic I brought up before about 3 years ago when I was considering buying a B7610. I didn't purchase then, but recently purchased a B2620. I'm guessing things have probably changed somewhat on the TnT front...

Problem with toplink fit on B2620

The toplink that came with my B2620 is rather short (about 17" when not extended). I bought a medium sized replacedment at TSC which is 21". However, it won't attach to the tractor. The space between the toplink mounting holes on the tractor is too narrow. The toplink that came with my B2620 is...

Lift height problems with KK rake on B2620

I just attached a 7' KK landscape rake to my new B2620 and noticed a couple of problems. When I first hooked it up, the tube running from the 3PH triangle rake pivot point (not sure what this is called, by I'll call it the "top tube" for short), was not parallel to the ground when the rake was...

    bar turfs?

I purchased a B2620 today. I'll take delivery later in the week. I asked for R4s and the dealer asked why. I explained I'll be doing quite a bit of tillage work preparing a 1 acre field for seeding with grass so my son can do some sports on it, so I need a tire that will grip in loose dirt...

    gardening in the leach field

Is it safe to vegetable garden in a septic leach field? The leach lines are at least 6 feet deep, maybe 8. The field is slightly sloped, so water always drains away from it. I've never noticed moist soil in the summer months (dry season), and also never noticed the field grass growing better...

    Locating septic leach field

Does anyone know how to locate a leach field? I know around where it is, but want more precise location information because we may be putting up a structure close by. I know the direction the line runs out from the septic tank. I also know it intersects the corner of the leach field at a 135...

    48" or 54" box scraper for B7610?

48\" or 54\" box scraper for B7610? I'm trying to figure out if I should get a 48" or 54" box scraper for a B7610. Both have 4 scarifiers. I figure the B7610 has the HP for a 54", but because of the light weight of the B7610 I'm wondering how much tire spinning there will be with a 54" box full...

    Pressure Washer Throttle

I have a Devilbiss Excel pressure washer, 2400 PSI with Honda 5HP engine. Purchased from Home Depot about 4 years ago. JD 4115 vs. Kubota B2630

Can someone tell me why I should by a JD 4115 instead of a Kubota B2630? Both dealers are quoting about 14% off list for the tractor + FEL, but the Kubota is about $2000 less than the JD. I've charted out the specs to make sure I'm not missing anything, and from what I can tell the Kubota comes...

    BX23 vs B7610+BH

I had pretty much made up my mind on a BX23, but now I'm considering a B7610+BH. One question I'd like to ask is: If money were no object (it is, let's just pretend it's not), is there any reason you would choose a BX23 over a B7610+BH? Here are some advantages of the B7610+BH <ul...
