    Plowing with my 1540...

I picked up a used 3-bottom plow and 6' disc for my 1540 last week. Today, for the first time, I tried out the plow. I wasn't sure if the 1540 was going to have enough muscle for a 3-bottom, particularly since most of my land hasn't been plowed in years, if ever. And the plow had been freshly...

Small utility trailer towed by tractor?

This is about as newbie as a question gets, but I figure better safe than sorry... I'm thinking of getting a small 5x10 utility trailer (the Lowes/TSC style...) for hauling implements and other random things with my SUV. Is there any reason why I can't also pull it behind my tractor when the...

What size finish mower on 1540?

Hey all you 1540 owners out there, what size finish mower are you able to get away with, and under what conditions? I'm assuming 6 and even 7 feet would be no problem under normal mowing conditions. But maybe even larger?

Nothing ruins a good day of tractoring...

I'm all smiles, enjoying the view cutting the open field at the very top of our very hilly property. I actually had the "how do you mow waist high grass?" thread in mind, as I was cutting weeds that were eye-high to me sitting on my 1540. The "post some pictures of hills" thread, too, since from...

    cut fieldstone veneer

Not exactly a tractor topic, but I wanted to tap the collective knowledge here... The previous owners of our house put on an addition, the walls of the walk-out basement that they built are OSB on the exterior covered with rigid foam board. That's currently how it sits - they never finished it...

    Rotary Cutter  rotary cutter...grass clumping...

I was cutting with my new Woods BB72 bush hog the other day. In one area, it's a mixture of grass and weeds that's not very thick, about a foot high. When I was done wiht that area it looked great, almost finished mowed-looking, with the clippings spread nicely. I cut it about 4-5" high. Then...

    1540/boxblade woes...

Finally got to try out my boxblade with the new tractor and am getting very frustrated, very quickly. I'm trying to tear up and smooth out a small plot next to the barn that is very rutty/hilly. The two biggest problems: 1. Even with the toplink as short as possible, I get VERY little forward...

Tires  Can wheels be removed/swapped when tires are filled?

Sorry, a difficult question to word well... My rear tires are fluid-filled. But I made an oversight when I ordered my tractor...I should've specified that the rears be set at the maximum width (my tractor has 4 different width settings), but I didn't. So they're set at the narrowest. Can a...

Odd question about my new 1540 steering wheel...

I've noticed something, and I'm wondering if it's a problem, or nothing to worry about... The steering wheel on my 1540...when I began, the steering wheel was upright (ie, aligned such that the MF symbol in the center was upright and centered.) As I've used it over the first ~10 hours though...

    1540 arrived!

Took delivery of my 1540 Powershuttle, FEL, box blade and 72" rotary cutter yesterday. There were a couple of snags...the factory sent it with R4's instead of the Ag tires that I ordered, and the dealer sent me the wrong rotary cutter (sent the Heritage model Woods instead of the BB72 that I...

Septic sand mound....is it ok to....?

Our septic system is of the 'sand mound' type (apologies if there are other/better names for it that I'm not familiar with). As you can imagine or as some of you may know, the mount sits out there in the yard, grass grows on it, and it's a pain in the rear to mow. Simply put, I'm tired of...

    1540 - pulled the trigger!

I'm excited to say the least. 1540 Power Shuttle 4WD, Ag tires, 1525 loader, 66" hd bucket with tooth bar, Woods BB72 rotary cutter, Woods 72" box blade...on it's way, hope to have it next week! Thanks to everyone who has helped with advice and info the past few weeks... -Mike

    Quick Attach for LA703 loader?

What are the options available? Local dealer quoted a 3rd party quick attach option for an extra ~$600, but then replaced the Kubota bucket on my quote with a Bobcat brand bucket. Does Kubota not make an OEM quick attach and compatible bucket for this loader? Thanks in advance, -Mike

Woods BB720 Med Duty Rotary too much for 1540?

I'm due to purchase a 1540 within the next few weeks and I'm deciding on implements. Most of my rotary cutting will be high graass in fields, some on flat ground, some on fairly steep hills (although mostly still side-to-side.) However, I have lots of area that I would like to clear of some...

    Closing in - Kubota L4400 vs. MF 1540 - some ?'s

Closing in - Kubota L4400 vs. MF 1540 - some ?\'s Hi everyone. I'm getting very close to making a purchase, and the two contenders are a Kubota L4400 and a MF 1540. Will also definitely be purchasing a FEL, 72" rotary cutter, and box scraper (not included in quotes below). Both will be 4WD with...

    Deer spotlights?

I've only lived out here for a few months, and this is a new one on me. Every night now as deer season approaches, a good number of the vehicles that pass by the house are waving spotlights around looking for deer. What is the point of this? I first thought it was a safety measure until I...

crazy idea? mowing with a compact track loader?

Hi TBN'ers. I'm mulling this situation over in my head. We live on 52 acres, about 2/3rds of which is a fairly steep hill behind our house (picture attached.) Parts of it aren't bad, but parts of it are, and I'm beyond a novice when it comes to tractor operation, so I basically refuse to take my...

Price Check  Fair price to ask for my Kubota 1550?

My tractor usage consists of about 90% mowing. And I think I could find a better mower for the money than this tractor. But I'm not sure what would be a fair value to ask if were to sell it or trade it. I'm not the first owner, so I don't know a whole lot about it (when it was purchased, how...

    Good Neighbors

Man, all these stories of bad neighbors are bringing me down! I wonder if it might take the edge off a bit if we share some good neighbor stories, even if that good neighbor is you. We just moved our here about five months ago - 52 acres, with basically one immediate neighbor on each side. On...

salvage old barn wood - who to call?

I'd like to take down my barn (circa 1880) - we're replacing it with a new detached garage/workshop. A lot of the original hand-hewn timbers and wide planks are still in good shape in there, along with the stone foundation. I'd like to find somebody who will take it down, who will hopefully...

1550 takes forever to crank - what\'s the deal? Anybody care to help me diagnose this issue, as I can't get the repair guy out for at least a few days... My old 1550....had been running just fine, brand new battery, now won't start. Or rather I should say, it starts *sometimes*, only after...

Artesian well - what to do?

I'm new to the forum here, and new to rural living, for that matter. This forum is a gold mine for me, as I've got so much to do, so many questions, and such little information! So anyway, one thing that I'm dealing with - we get our water from an artesian well. We get decent water pressure...
