Equipment buying negotiation strategies, haggling stories sellers, etc.

I have found that cash is king! Showing up to look at something with cash in hand is a really good incentive for a seller to sell at a lower price. Also if it is on craigslist I wait to see how long it stays on. If it is on a long time at a price I think is high the seller maybe more willing...

I have a kubota l2800 with a clutch and the rear speed in 1st is 1.5. It does well even in deep snow with the rear woods snow blower I have. What I have found is slow speed is most important. At 1.7 you should do ok. The worst part as everyone has said is the looking back wards. I do like...

Who knows about stacked-block retaining walls?

I would put a perferated pipe at the bottom with a place to drain out at the end of the wall and one in the middle. I would bak fill with 3/4" crushed stone and then cover the top of the stone with cloth before I covered it with top soil.

Tractor hard to start in cold

Lower viscosity oil in the winter may help. Check your manual and see what is required for colder temps. Do both batteries. If the are wired together the weaker one will fight the stronger one. I remember having a diesel pick up dual batteries. They always said to change both at the same...

    Best and worst chainsaw?

I own stihl all the way. 3 chain saws a 180, 250 and A 440? Also a blower and demo saw. The 250 is not a bad saw always cuts good for me but the 440, not sure of the exact model #, cuts like a monster even with a dull chain. All my equipment is older and has needed minimal maintenance.

How much do you care about pre emissions

All of my machines are pre-emissions not by design only because I have older machines. They are easier to work on and it is one less thing to break or pay to fix.

Is boiled linseed oil a useful rust preventative for seasonal implements stored outdoors?

Linseed oil would remain sticky. Also you have to be carefull if you get it on any rags and then leave them around in a pile. It can spontaneously combust.

Tractor Sizing 6' brush hog on a 30Hp tractor

I have a Kubota l2800 which is 29 hp and I run a 5 foot brush hog on it. I also run a 6 foot finish mower on it. It handles the 5 foot brush hog much easier than the 6 foot finish mower and the grass I cut with the finish mower is not that tall.

    Tire Ballasts, Weights &c...

I put methanol in my rear tires with tubes about 10 years ago and have had no problems. Did not want calcium/salt because I was afraid it would rot the rim. It was more expensive. Only other concern is that it is toxic if it leaks out

    Returning batteries for warranty claim

Not sure if any one made this suggestion. It could be the starter windings. Happened to me on my case backhoe. New battery would barely turn over. Would start when jumped. Thought it was a bad battery had it tested battery was good. Auto parts store said probably the starter, changed...

    Drawbar towing.

I have the 3 point attachment that has the 2: receiver. It is handy because I have a few different trailers/log splitter that use different balls. I also use it with stabilizers so the hitch does not swing right and left too much. I do not move heavy loaded trailers with it so I ca not speak...

I Have a 30hp kubota a 47 hp massey with a loader, a 240 skid steer and a case 480e backhoe. I could get by with the massy but the little one is handy for getting in small areas and the trans is a 8 speed which is nice to have all the speed options. Plus it is easy to put 1 implement on 1...

    Compressor issue

You need a dedicated 20 amp circuit which is 110 volt and a 12 gauge extension cord because of the distance and the voltage drop. 15 amps will not cut it.

    Backhoe vs Tractor with backhoe

I have a case 480e backhoe. Aside from it being very sturdy for heavy digging I like the fact all I have to do is turn the seat around and I can use the backhoe. If you have a ag tractor with a backhoe attachment you have to get off the tractor and climb up onto the backhoe. Then off the...
