    Building a backhoe bucket

Haha, my yard didn’t burn but I did catch myself on fire while building this bucket. I brought the back sheet to the local machine shop and they curved it on their brake for me, I don’t have a good way of bending it here at my little shop…

    Building a backhoe bucket

Thanks guys. No, that’s not me in the pictures, that’s my son/top helper… I do have a chain hook welded to the back of the bucket, already came in handy a few times. This one you operate from a seat on the attachment itself, I still have to mount it, right now I just have the mounting plate on...

    Building a backhoe bucket

So I needed a bucket for my Bobcat 909 backhoe attachment that I just rebuilt. It didn’t come with one and the only one I could find for sale is so far away that shipping would be the same price as the bucket… so I built my own out of some material I had sitting around… I copied the dimensions...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Haha, thanks Doug, it’s been a running gag for us since I built it… I’ve been using it a lot lately, doing various chores… hauled 7 loads of gravel today for a flood berm… makes a great dump truck! Or logging truck… or machinery hauler… the list seems endless…

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Thanks guys! No blade came with the cat, it was used as an ag tractor in its former life. I may try to find a blade for it but I’m mostly just planning on keeping it the way it is set up now, but I do want to add a PTO to it… I have visions of a small self loading log trailer to pull through...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

So I recently picked up a D2 Cat and I’m pleased to say the trailer hauled it very well. At first I was worried how it would feel hauling 7000+ lbs 5 hours down the highway but other than pulling a bit heavier it felt no different than the trailer pulls empty. It also didn’t pick the back of the...

    Built myself a gantry crane…

I recently bought myself a project D2 Caterpillar, but don’t (or rather didn’t) have any real good way of lifting the heavy pieces other than my bobcat. When I first dreamed up my little shop I had intended to integrate some I-beams into the ceiling to have a crane built in but to make it...

Want to buy a sawmill - Talk me out of it!

I certainly aint gonna try to talk you out of it! My dad bought a mill in 1991 as a way to make some money when he was laid off from his regular job during the slow time of year. Yeah, his was top of the line loaded with all the options and hydraulic log handling package you could get at the...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Here I took 4 yards of topsoil to my buddy’s place. This is the first time I had this big a load of dirt on it. I’m happy to report it didn’t feel like the back of the truck was coming up at any time. I didn’t weigh the truck and trailer loaded but it sure didn’t feel like the tongue weight was...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Finally got around to building some removeable sides for the flimsy trailer and hauled 5 yards of black dirt with it, it hauled it and dumped it with no issues. Also hauled a few loads of crap dirt and sticks with it, and keep finding more things for it to do. So far it’s working out very well...

Hypertherm 30 vs Hobart 40i for first plasma cutter.

I can’t say the same about hypetherm, may have had a bad apple but my experience with them has been not good. My brother bought a Powermax 30, used it 4 times and then went to use it, nothing! Got the main power board replaced under warranty, it lasted for 2 uses, then the machine quit working...

Share Pics of People Hauling or Towing Something Wrong

Not sure if I saw this anywhere but how were the camper tiedown struts attached? Could that somehow have weakened the frame?

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Dave, I put the axles that far back for 2 reasons - one so I could add another axle ahead of them if I ever need another, but the main reason is so that I can dump a load of whatever without the back of the truck coming off the ground. Every dump trailer I’ve used lifts the back of the truck up...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Dave, it is indeed mostly stick welded, 7018, nothing special… I have used it quite a bit recently, mostly hauling my snowmobile out to the bush lately… pulls real good and it does have a fair bit of tongue weight being as how far back the axles are. Duffer...

Thanks for the welcome fellas! Carl, the ramps are about 8 feet long and have hooks on the ends, they're made out of 1" thick steel and I made them so I can hook them anywhere on the rub rail that goes all around the trailer. They are secured in the storage pocket with a lynch pin. I just wish...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

A few more… I wanted this trailer to be sturdy so I built the main frame rails out of 5/16” 2x6 box section steel and the rest is 3/16” except the drawbar which is 3/8” thick. The axles are 7000lb and I made it so I could easily add a 3rd axle if I need to, and I may yet end up doing that since...

Built myself a dumping flatbed trailer.

Hello all, thought I’d share the trailer I spent the last year building. I wanted a dumping deckover flatbed trailer, but it seems nobody makes them, you can either get a tilting deckover trailer, a dedicated dump trailer with fold down sides or a deckover trailer that doesn’t dump. So I set...

Differences in Backhoe Attachments for Bobcat 843

The 905B is a small backhoe made for the 400 and 500 series loaders so much too small for your 843. The 907 and 909 are for the 700 series and might work on the 843. The 911 is the backhoe designed for the 843 while the 913 is a monster for the 900 series machines. I don’t know about the T906 so...
