Sometimes if you have a weak solenoid, adding the juice of the jumper will then engage it….. but normally I think you would get a click from your other battery…. If it sat all winter it just seems like a dead battery? And yes, batteries can short out, at any time.

I prefer NeverSeize for lubing splines. A little goes a long way, and that includes your shirt, hands, arms, pants and most of the rear of the tractor!

I have a Woodland Mills 8”, their largest unit on a JD955. Use it exactly like you do, and it works great. Very well built unit. Not sure about Woodmax and others, but whatever you do get a bigger throat like at least 8” and hydraulic feed.

The longer the trailer hitch the better, especially if you have a short trailer. When at all possible use driver side mirror, less distortion. concentrate on the trailer wheels, especially with a small narrow trailer. Those are the things you need in the right place. Last, don’t over react...

Anything will handle a 6’ mower IF you can go slow enough. The lack of a live PTO precludes that with an 8N. I drove one for years as a kid, and owned one as an adult for ten years. Great little tractors.

Why don’t you just blend your fuel in winter? Since you have that many problems, 50% #2 and 50% #1 or Kerosene. Life is too short for that much trouble!
