    Something's eating my firewood!

Something\'s eating my firewood! I cut down several dozen live trees early this spring and stacked the useable firewood in a pile. The trees were all Osage Orange, Slippery Elm or Honey Locust. The logs are now covered with hundreds of little piles of saw dust and you can actually hear the wood...

    Where to buy trees

I am trying to re-forest about 2 acres of my property. I can get 1 year old saplings from the State of Ohio or from my county for aroud 50 cents to a dollar a piece but they are so small (12" to 18"). The local nurserys and garden stores seem to only stock much larger trees and much more...

    Flaking Decals

The decals are flaking off my BX2200. I don't really care if anyone knows it's a Kubota or it has 4 Wheel Drive ect.. but it is starting to look ratty. Anyone else having this problem? Since it's still under warranty I wonder if the dealer would replace them. The peeling could be due to cleaning...

    Drought Phemomena

Here in S.W. Ohio we have had almost no rain in 12 weeks. The lawns are all completely brown. Except, wherever a trench was dug to run an electric line, phone line, or water line there is a strip that is nice and green. This is noticable in our yard and many other yards. Wuz up wit dat?

    Grass & Drought

We have not had a drop of rain here in my area of S.W. Ohio in 9 weeks coupled with 10 straight days of over 95 degree heat. All the lawns are completely brown. I'm worried my almost 3 acres of lawn is not going to make it. How long can lawn grasses survive with no water?

    Physically Challenged Skunk

We have a crippled, excuse me, "physically challenged" skunk living under our deck. I'm not sure what to do. It's rear end is totally disabled and it just drags it's rear legs as it crawls along. It comes out from under our deck every night and crawls into the woods where I see it scrounging...

    Electronic Scarecrow

I decided to put in a vegetable garden here at our new place. The neighbors said I was crazy. They have had no luck unless they put up at least a 6 foot fence. Not only do we have 2 rabbit nests within 50 yards of the garden (one evening there were 7 rabbits at once near the garden area) but the...

    Skeeter Deleter

Have you guys seen this new Mosquito Deleto contraption from Coleman? Supposedly it gives off CO2 and heat to trick the skeeters into thinking it's a warm blooded animal. They are left stuck to some sticky stuff. Has anyone tried one yet? It seems like a great idea but I'd hate to spend $200 to...

    BX Landscape rake

Anyone try using a 5 foot landscape rake with the BX? 5' is the smallest the tractor stores stock. It seems large for the BX.

    A Natural Spring?

We finished building our new house on what used to be a hay field. I noticed during the building process that there was a constant wet spot right near the basement walkout. I had the foresight to lay down a pickup line and run it out away from the house. Water continues to run from that line...

    Usin' & Abusin' the BX

Usin\' & Abusin\' the BX You BXers would not have believed what I did with mine the other day: The County is building a new bridge right down the road and there amongst the excavation was a beautiful pink and purple granite boulder. Well, I was not about to let a wonderful landscaping stone get...

    Deer Fencing

I was going to fence in an area for a garden to keep out the numerous deer we have around here. I had planned to use 5 foot wire fencing. I see several deer fences advertized that are 7.5 to 8 feet high. Will a 5 foot high fence be adequate or am I kidding myself. What are some of your experiences?

    Life expectancy of blacktop drive

I currently have a gravel driveway that I'd like to pave. Concrete I hear lasts a lifetime-- but you'll work that long to pay for it. In your experience, how long a life expectancy does a blacktop driveway have assuming it is sealed regularly? Does a blacktop driveway mean I cannot have a heavy...

    Clearing Trees

I want to cut a trail through my woods -about 800 feet-and clear about 3/4 of an acre. It's all weed trees mostly 3 to 8 inches with a few large Osage Orange (Hedge Apple) trees and spiny locust trees. This excavator wants to bring in his large track hoe and a loader. I questioned whether such a...

    Snapper Grounds Cruiser

I'm looking to buy a utility vehicle for around the farm. The JD Gator is great but the price! The Kawazaki Mule is a lot less expensive but seems rather chinsy. I've seen the web site for the Snapper Grounds Cruiser and it seems a lot beefier than the Mule. I called about the price and I can...

HEADLINE: Kentucy man bags giant deer

Some dumba__ shot an endangered species of elk and was going around telling all his buddies about the giant deer he hunted down. He was arrested and is being fined $8,000. They didn't say if this elk was on public land or some private reserve.

    Barn Floor

I'm planning to build a barn probably 20x24 or a little larger to house my tractor and implements. Problem is, getting equiptment in to excavate and pour concrete without damaging our landscaping and concrete driveway. I'm considering a pressure treated 2x6 T&G wood floor over treated joists...

    BX2200 amazing me again

I'm clearing sections of my woods and thinning trees. I wanted to move the trees without cutting them up into sections to save time. I cut down several 30' to 35' cedar trees one with a trunk 10" in diameter. It was so heavy, I could not even lift the trunk an inch to get the chain under it-- I...

    BX2200 to the rescue again

Once again the versatility of the BX and it's loader proved itself. I had a half dozen 8 foot pine trees to plant. I shoveled most of the topsoil from the holes into a yardcart, but the clay from deep in the hole I shoveled into the loader and dumped in the woods. Hence, I did no damage to the...

    Osage Orange Balls

I have tens of thousands of Osage Orange tree balls in my woods. Anyone know of any use for the things? Don't say they keep away spiders-- the ground in my woods is carpeted with the balls and yet my woods are also a thicket of spider webs.

Price Check  Price checks on JD455

I'd like some comparisons on price on a JD 455 with 60" mower. The local dealer is running a special right now quoting $9,400 and he is firm on that price.

    BX Sticking Hydro Petal Dangerous

I have been having problems like many BX owners with the hydro pedal sticking. I have tried greasing the zerk fitting several times (only 38 hours on tractor) to no avail. I almost had a life threatening accident last night where I almost hit a friend with the FEL because the pedal stuck firm...

    Rotovator woes

I had a new Howard Rotovator delivered with my tractor. The only time it has been used was for less than a minute to see how it worked. I noticed a few days later a puddle of oil on the garage floor. I called the dealer, they came and got it and supposedly fixed it. I noticed a few days...

    Smoothing out yard

My new 2 acre front lawn is a former hay field. It is so rough from being plowed and from the clumps of Timothy hay still growing that it is like cutting on a washboard. Any recommendations on how to smooth it out? My neighbor tried rolling his with a HUGE roller and it made little difference.

    Glow-in-the-dark wood

No kidding! I was camping down in Red River Gorge in Kentucky. I was chopping on a tree stump next to our camp with my hatchet. After dark, I was in our tent and noticed small glowing bits along the side of our tent. I thought they might be the "glow worms" I have heard of. Turns out they were...

    Daddy Long Leggers

Help! It's the attack of the Daddy Lond Leggers! We seem to be overrun with the critters. As I type here there are 5 on the window screen outside. We can't sit out on the porch without the things running all over us. Anyone know why we are overrun with the things?

    Cutting down trees

I want to remove a lot of junk trees I have growing in my wooded area. Most are locust with the sharp spines ( already have had 2 flats and I only have 5 hours on the new tractor) and Osage Orange. I cut down one large Osage tree and the stump sprouted dozens of new shoots that within weeks grew...

    BX Message Forum

Just a suggestion, but with so many BX owners out there now I thought it would be great to have a separate BX discussion folder. By the way, just to show how popular the BX is, my dealer tells me he is selling 12 BXs to every other model he sells. JD and New Holland better get their market...

    Costing me a bundle!

Well I did it--- traded in my almost new JD325 for a BX2200. It should arrive in a day or two. I just hope it lives up to everything you guys say because when my wife saw the invoice she said if I could afford to spend that much on a lawn mower then she was buying the new car she's wanted. So...
