This was certainly worth the research effort… Besides the hydraulics, I wanted something that would compensate for the Pat’s quick hitch extension, and add a quick-attach to the top. Also, found I can use the inexpensive, locally available, top-link balls by doing a little grinding…
I was surprised to see this particular hose is attached with hose clamps. I would have thought pressure too high for that.
Looks to be 7/16 ID, non-braided.
Any idea of a source for this type hose (TS, NAPA, etc)?
This weekend was spent adding a WR Long 3rd Function Hydraulic Valve (VK12) and Everything Attachments' 55" root grapple (wicked-55) to my 2006 Massey Ferguson MF1540, with the MF1525 Loader.
While I intended to install the valve myself, the $115 install price from White's Tractor Company, and...
That's the picture in my manual. However, plug #1 does not exist on my tractor…
Not a great pic, but that's where plug #1 should be...
I drained #3 on both sides, and filled at #2.
7.9 qts (as called for) brings the level to the threads on plug #2...
I decided to service my 2006 MF1540 myself this time.
I'm discovering my owners manual isn't as accurate as I'd like
Seems the tractor's 4x4 front axle doesn't have the "level check plug" referenced for determine fluid level.
What I have is an odd shaped filler plug that I'm wondering if...
I thought I was asking EA when I quoted Travis' post…
I guess I could have been more specific, as I've already decided on their Wicked Root Rake Grapple. Only question is, what size.
That said, I certainly don't mind other's input.
Turns out I can have the kit installed by a local dealer for about what I'd pay for parts. Hopefully, I'll get that done in the next week.
Leaves the choice of grapple. Whats recommended for mostly clearing brush/branches with my '06 MF1540 (type/size etc)...
I'm picking up these parts this weekend in anticipation of ordering my 3rd function kit. Any reason why I couldn't install the parts now, or should I wait until I have the kit?
Tractor's up and running again Thanks for all the input.
I followed these directions from LouNY:
"I don't know for sure how your Massey is set up,
it is common for the filter to be on the suction line going to the hydraulic pump,
some pumps will have two sections some just one, usually the...
Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here also
Today I changed fluid and filter in my 2006 MF1540. Now I have no movement from either my loader or 3pt hitch.
I added the specified amount (8.2gal) and can see fluid 3/4 up the site glass.
I ran the tractor for about ten minutes, and even tried a...
Just changed hydraulic fluid and filter in the MF1540. Calls for 8.2 gal, which slows about 3/4 of the site glass. No movement on the loader or hitch. What am I missing?
Can someone recommend a source for good after-market parts? I have a ?6 MF1540 for which I need lower lift arms. I tried what they have at Agri supply and they failed on the first lift of my sprayer. Thanks.
The other day I noticed water on the barn floor around my tractor (MF1540). Looking closer I noticed both rear tires where wet, on both sides of the tires, around the bead. It looks to be a one time leak, as the floor is now dry. Could this have been caused by our drastic temp changes here in NC...
I'm at the 50 hr mark with my 1540. I know It's due a service, but with the work schedule getting to the shop is proving impossible right now. Any advice on how far I can go before I'm looking at problems? I certainly don't want to harm anything, but neither do I want a $19K tractor sitting in...
How do you know when 4wd is engaged on the 1540?
I was trying to drive up a trailer ramp and kept spinning the rear tires. I ensured the 4wd lever was in the correct position. I finally checked the linkage and found that there was no pin where the linkage meets the shaft (or I assume a pin goes...
I'm getting ready to reclaim a section of my pasture by trying to level the old dirt road. It's mostly loose sand and is pretty uneven. A neighbor suggested I use a disc to do the main work and then smooth with a blade. I'll using my MF 1540, 40HP. Be advised I know nothing about tractors or...
I just finished my first time spraying 2-4D on my hay field. As I don't think I'll be using it again until next year what is the best way to clean it, and prepare it for storage? It is a 55 gal plastic tank with a PTO pump.
I have three different sets of instructions from the sprayer, pump, and...
I need some advice on proper RPM setting.
I spent a few hours this weekend pulling around a box blade and it didn't take long to notice the difference between this and my old TO.
With my old tractor I needed nearly full RPM to get much done; not so with the 1540.
What RPM should I be using...
I still need help. I was just about set on the MF1540 for my small farm but can' help wonder if I'd be just as well off with a much less expensive MF431. I don't need a lot of extras; just something strong enough to lift round bales of hay, and small enough to work around the barn/house. My...
Need advice. I have been looking for a new tractor to replace my old Ferguson TO-30. Initially, I wasn't locked into one make by after two months of looking, and driving, I'm in love with a MF1540 w/SynchroShuttle, and a MF1525 loader.
What I need it for is to work a 16 acre horse farm in SE...
