Hi to all, I am a 63 year old female trying to help my 80 year old friend with things that her late husband left her. Currently working on a John Deere tractor. I am capable of a few things but then I need help. Just learning and having fun. Thanks to anyone that has some suggestions.

I have a John Deere c155 mower. I am replacing the gear at the end of the steering shaft. I have removed the bolt at the end but the gear itself will not budge. Any recommendations? Also do I need to remove the linkage above the gear? I was told to do that.
