    Making gas cans great again

On my 5-gallon can, I drilled a small hole at the location where they show the push-in cap, then put a screw in it--loosen or remove the screw to pour. Cheap and no leaks. (American-made screw, by the way! Unlike all the replacement nozzles from you know where!)

    Grass build up

I had seen an Exmark Quest S with steering wheel on the internet. Further research today shows they made it for a couple of years, ~2014-2016, but stopped producing. Supposedly CC has patent and no one can produce with steering wheel. ??

    Grass build up

I have the same issue with the 54" deck on the XTS54 Ultima--even with new blades, there is a strip left where the grass is not cut as low, not high but enough to be noticeable. Mine is a steering wheel model (due to shoulder problems), another neighbor has an older steering wheel model while...

Grease - is there no better way? Can we talk about this?

Tried the horizontal storage. The oil that stays in the gun then runs out when you are using it, dripping onto everything beneath. If you happen to be laying under a piece of equipment, guess what's beneath...

Suggestions for a post hole digger?

Have you considered renting a skid-steer with an auger? One big advantage is the unobstructed visibility and control of the auger.

    John Deere or Kubota mower

stucknutz, I agree. I've had both Kubota and JD and overall have found the JD to be better. For mowing, I currently have a Cub Cadet steering wheel zero turn but my old JD X500 does better mowing. I have bad knees so I much prefer the dual pedals on the JD to the treadle pedal. If the JD has...

Hybrid Rotary Cutter Proof of Concept

I'm jealous of your terrain! Rotary mowers, which most refer to as bush or brush hogs, are primarily used for clipping/clearing ground that is very undulating, with saplings, rocks, etc. For fields that are smooth and clean enough to set once and go, we usually cut for hay or use a finish...

Hybrid Rotary Cutter Proof of Concept

Thanks for the reply. From my perspective, the additional strains on the much more expensive tractor, especially lighter SCUT and CUT tractors, would eventually lead to greater costs than one additional wheel and better CV joints for the mower. But I'm not privy to info that I'm sure you are...

Hybrid Rotary Cutter Proof of Concept

Hey Runner, I would think just the opposite--the u-joints would stay more in a straight position instead of having to flex up and down when the 3-point is raised/lowered. There are definite advantages with being able to raise the 3-point, but I was able to raise the trail type I had with...

Hybrid Rotary Cutter Proof of Concept

Great work and great idea; good luck with future progress in marketing. On a related matter, I question why trail- or pull-type rotary cutters are not readily available, if at all, for SCUTs and CUTs -- in my experience, the vibration from a rotary cutter is not transferred to the tractor...

Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

How does the quality of cut compare to a finish mower? I have a 72" finish mower but I need to cut some rougher stuff as well--not good for the finish mower.

1st time at my new property & 1st time ever brush-hogging - some lessons learned

I do not understand why rotary mower manufacturers do not make smaller trail-type mowers. Trail type mowers exert much less stress on the tractors, result in much less vibration on the tractor, reduce the potential for raising the front end of the tractor and/or overturning, etc. Granted, they...

    Tractors and (upcoming) tariffs?

    1. Are "revenge" and "retribution" buzz words of the incoming administration, or the lame stream media words? 2. "Mexico has their hands full"--and what is the US supposed to do about that? Is there anything we can do, other than sending more US taxpayer money, to see the same results we've...

    Tractors and (upcoming) tariffs?

    Tractors and (upcoming) tariffs?

So can you definitively state that "only people who contributed to the program for the required number of quarters are entitled to benefits." are the only people being paid from SS funds? From this, can we be assured that there is no fraud occurring with SS funds? That NO ONE is receiving...

    Tractors and (upcoming) tariffs?

I agree with much of this post, but I'm one of those receiving SS and on Medicare but that doesn't mean I don't want to see those programs under intense scrutiny for waste, fraud and abuse. An entire program does not have to be scrapped to make it more efficient...or honest. The same can be...

    Tractors and (upcoming) tariffs?

I sure hope the leaders from other countries, who place tariffs on goods from the US, are reading many of these posts and realizing their tariffs are not good for their citizens as well. You'd never know other countries place tariffs on US goods from reading these posts; I don't see any...

Tractor hard to start in cold

"Plug in heater is on machine, but often times the need is unanticipated." Might want to consider a timer; having the heater come on for a short period even when tractor not used won't hurt, other than the low cost of the electricity used over the short period.

Is a subcompact under 25hp enough power?

You might take a look at the JD 2 series. They’ve gone to bigger frame so more stable and heavier. I have 2038R with 72” drive-over auto connect MMM and FEL. I also have the Load-n-Go attachment, allowing me to pick up the MMM and position it however I want, to change blades, sharpen blades...

    1st time buyer - 35 hp comparisons

I've owned Ford, Kubota, David Brown (Case) in the past, but I have been well-pleased with my JD 2038R, with 72" mid-mount auto-connect drive-over mower deck and FEL. Fortunate to have a decent dealer nearby. May not be heavy enough for your needs; the 3 series or higher may be a better fit...

    Tractor decision

    5ft brush hog on a 25hp compact

There are a lot of farmers on here with much more experience than I have, but a couple of comments: 1) rotary mower can easily “push” a light tractor down too-steep slopes, making it uncontrollable at times (from experience!); 2) personal preference would be a pull or trail type mower—regardless...

Flail mower first try = terrible cut… SOLVED

I agree, eddieirvine. The act of cutting seems better to me than beating, or flailing. However, I prefer a trail type brush hog: with the 3-point hitch type, all the vibration is transferred to the tractor; with the trail type, the amount of vibration transferred is greatly reduced, causing...

Advice on tractor for 7.5 acres - Mowing pasture and general use - L3902? What flail mower?

rScotty, you mention a "standard 5 foot pull type brush hog mower". When you say brush hog, do you mean something heavier/stronger than a finish mower? I've been looking for a pull type 5' or 6' bush-hog type mower (lot less stress/vibration on tractor than 3-point hitch models, imho), for use...
