I've got both (front and rear hitches) on my L3400. I move trailers up to 3500lbs (2 horse + tack)
For spotting(backing) a trailer into a tight spot, the FEL is the way to go. but any distance the 3point is preferred.
Given the low cost of adding a hitch ball to both ends I'd just get...
I don't doubt that several years ago things were cheaper... and maybe if you have easy access to suppliers that can fabricate hyd. hoses and provide all the fittings you might do it cheaper.
I live 80 miles from a big city in Canada.... the time (and fuel) it would take me to hunt down all...
Earlier this spring I acquired a flail mower with a hydraulic side shift kit for a price I could not pass up, But my L3400 did not have rear remotes. I did have to option of removing the side shift kit, or modifying it for manual shifting, but after some thought I figured I could get a lot of...
After reading everyone's opinion, sizing up the stump piles and brush piles (attacking one with the wood chipper) and looking at the mountain of work ahead, The boss and I made a choice.
We are going to have the brush and stumps shredded. There is a contractor currently working at the...
if the disc is paid for, and doesn't cost you any money to keep it (and keep it operational) I wouldn't sell it.
plans change, you never know what the future holds... except if you sell it now, and need it again it will cost you more to replace it.
if it sits unused for 3 years... then maybe...
alright... 1st snow... November for sure, October maybe.... then it lasts into April sometimes May.
The year I pulled the insulation and furnace out of my house during a early warm May.... it snowed the long weekend (4 weeks in)
It does sound like everyone is saying "burn it" the tiny...
ok my township will only allow burn piles 4x4x4 feet (thats with a special large burn permit)
looking at the piles of material.... I dont know if I have that much time...(I'm 39 and I'd like this done in my lifetime)
Digging a hole is near impossible between the shallow bedrock and large...
I groom my walking trails in the winter using my atv on tracks pulling 3 tires (side walls cut out of bottom) with a 2x10 across the back. the 2x10 is 18" wider then the machine and has 45° cuts on both ends to help "bowl" the trail.
I find this works well to pull the air out of the snow and...
I just had 2 acres of forest cleared with the goal of pasture. My contractor was supposed to use a mulching head on his excavator (18ton) to mulch everything 4" and smaller down to the ground. Pull the larger trees, mulch the tops, bury the stumps and leave me with log piles.
Well.... due...
I'm looking to replace my 4x8 Kargo Max utility trailer with something a little bit bigger, and find myself looking at 5x10 sized units. The main factor in the upgrade is my atv w/ snow tracks measures 54.5" wide an 9' long) (I also have a horse trailer and car hauler in the fleet)
I might...
I'm considering building a snow pusher to help deal with the light small snow falls. Any snow that is deep or heavy I will use my rear mount blower.
The area where I think this will be the most useful is 90' long and 60' wide. I prefer a pusher to a plow to minimize side forces on my FEL...
I'm thinking about building a small barn and have mixed thoughts on a hayloft.
My biggest concern is if I ever stop using small square bales (or they are no longer available) what can I use a hay loft for?
Anyone have a great idea what to use a hay loft for? besides Hay.
The new discharge chute!
It seems like Woodland Mills has re-designed the discharge chute.
It now uses a spring pin to lock the rotation and no longer has a reduction in diameter. Which I hope means it will be easy to use and wont clog.
Assembly is straight forward. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I would recommend you get a second set of hands to help you. I took me 2 hours to put it together, plus another 45 minutes to measure, cut, measure and cut the PTO shaft.
The chipper did have a bit of "shipping...
A couple weeks ago I picked up a new WC68 wood chipper from Woodland Mills. There main location is just a few hours away from me, so I picked the chipper up in person. I had called ahead, so they knew I was coming and had everything ready to go when I got there. The staff where super...
Once out of the compressor closet I did one drop over my work bench.
one drop beside my man door with a pressure gauge.
and then the "lowest" drop beside the garage door. and then up hill to the other side of the door where I installed a hose reel.
its been 5 days since I finished the air...
I ran a string line down the 3 three walls, and marked out every tube clip.
I sloped my main line down 1" every 10ft. each drop has a water drain valve on the bottom.
out of my regulator I used a TEE to run vertical up to the ceiling and down to my first main drain valve
The tubing comes on a roll and is very stiff, but once you get it straight its stays.
That's my make shift tube straightener.
I ordered an extra 10 mounting clips (total of 30) and I'm glad I did. Rapid air says a clip every 5 feet is required, and I'm sure the tubing can span 5 feet no...
The RapidAir Maxline kit showed up. I went with this system because I couldn't justify the cost of copper. I didn't want to deal with rust in iron pipe. iron pipe would be about the same cost to install but twice the headache. PVC is a no-no and PEX isn't UV rated and I was concerned about...
I'm looking into adding some auxiliary hydraulics to my L3400. so here is my question.
what do you use your 3rd function hydraulics for? besides a grapple.
"it alive!"....well sorta.
After a expensive trip to a plumbing supply store. I had all I needed to plumb the compressor to the regulator.
There is not a lot of room in my closet, so when I installed the compressor I decided to make it easy for me to change the V-belt and compressor oil. By...
I got the compressor bolted down and wired in over the weekend.
I used 3/8" SS concrete anchors, with a vibration pad and hockey puck under the feet. I used 2 rubber washers on top of the feet under the SS washer and nut.
I used the hockey pucks for two reasons. 1st was height. I wanted a...
it was a busy weekend.
I decided to build the closet roughly 60" x 42" on the outside, with un-equal walls in order to accommodate some shelving I have.
I didn't realize how time consuming using the acoustical seal on all the joints was going to be. it almost doubles the work. the basic steps...
here's where I finished on Sunday night.
OSB is up on all the walls, both shelf units are back up.
I'm now ready to build the compressor closet.
My basic plan for the closet construction is 2x4 studs on 24" OC...... roxul insulation. OSB boards on both sides.... lots of Acoustic seal and...
I go moving pretty quick on Saturday and didn't get a camera out till the afternoon.
I'd already put up OSB board on 1/2 the walls when I install my work bench, and had some extra material from another job. Unfortunately when we moved in we quickly set up 2 large shelving units to manage all...
I started working on the shop over the weekend. It was -4° F all weekend, but the wood stove kept the shop comfortable.
Here's what the shop looked like 2 years ago when I bought the place. The previous owner insulated and put up most of the vapor barrier. During the purchase process I found...
here's a "trailer mover" I built for my cat 1 3pt.
I built it so in the future I could replace the top link with a longer pole to build a jib crane sort of thing.
Step 4... the last 30 ft
From the hoist, I take a arm load at a time in to the house.
I'm burning in a Enerzone Solution 2.5 ZC. its one of them new fangled 2 stage burn units.
I've added a forced air distribution kit... to help push the hot air down into the basement of the house, which...
step 3.5
more wood hoist details
Here is the basket raised up in the screened in porch.
I used a hoist from princess auto (harbor freight for Canuks) rated at 440lbs single line or 880 double.
I built the bracket for the hoist from scrap steel. It rests on two truss's and on a supporting wall.
Step 3. the Hoist
For the last 2 winters I have hauled the fire wood up a flight of outside stairs, a recycle bin at a time. that sucks!
So in the 4th section of my wood storage area... I built a wood hoist.
The plan was to build something that could lift a weeks worth of wood. here it is just...
I moved into my place 3 winter's ago. Starting next winter I will be heating my house with my own locally sourced, carbon neutral, gmo free. fire wood.
for the last few winters I've been burning wood I purchased when we moved in (tandem load of logs).
Here's my system with lots of...
I'll have to make the "what pipe" decision in the new year. I'm leaning towards the Rapidair Maxline 3/4" kit, with one extra tee and outlet, but the exchange and shipping make it a hard pill to swallow.
my current dilemma is the closet size. the owners manual "asks" for 18" of clearance on...
I'm planning out how i want to install a 60 gallon air compressor in my shop. My shop is detached from the house, 24ft wide 36 ft deep. The electrical panel is in the front corner. I'm in Canada.. so its humid and the outside temp ranges from -40 to 104 F
I think I want to install the...
What do you do or use to control the "bugs" on your property?
I've got a bit of wetland around the house, and the bugs are just insane! It was a nice day yesterday, but because of the bugs, we stayed in the house.
Bug spray helps, but its not enough.
My Kubota L3400 came with a set of Ag tires and a set of Turf Tires. Both are in good shape and both sets have "ballast" in the rear tires.
I mostly work the tractor in the bush and I think the Ag tires are the way to go. I have a small lawn mower for the yard, and would NEVER drive the...
I just purchased a Kubota L3400 with a FEL (no SSQA) its 4wd and has 30hp at the pto. The tractor is about 60" wide.
I own about 40 acres of forest with some trails and I have 450ft long drive way that's about 15000 sq feet.
I currently use a home made drag and atv in the summer and a 44" snow...
After a year long search, I just brought home a 2005 L3400.
We (the boss/wife/cfo/etc) had been looking for a tractor ever since we moved in to our 40 acre chunk of paradise. I'd been watching the classifieds and visiting the local tractor dealers, and it was really starting to look like new...
I'm think I'm going to be pulling the trigger on a 2538 in the next 6 months. I still have a bit of "research" to do on my local dealer options.
I've read a bunch of threads on the 2538 and already know about a few "issues", complaints or gripes, but what else is out there? any buyers remorse...
The faster cycle time was something I had not thought of, and makes a lot of sense on a flow limited utility tractor (trying to say CUT normally have less flow then a skid steer)
Hey Ted,
Can you explain the difference (functionally) between the single lid and double lid wicked grapples?
with the double lid, are both grapple cylinders are plumed in parallel together?
why would I want one or the other?
thanks
Last summer I bought a home with 40 wooded acres. Last fall the Wife bought a 15.3 hand Gelding. I think we need a tractor and the wife agrees!
We'd like to use the tractor to do the following:
-Snow removal on the drive way (450 ft long, 15000 sq ft, 70 wide near the house)
-Maintain the...
