Outside storage for attatchments: How to keep the weeds down?

Mow, then move annually to the mowed area.

John Deere 855, lost 4-wheel drive, and fixed it.

I lost the 4 wheel drive (front wheels) on my 1986 John Deere 855. Thanks to other posts on this site, after jacking up the tractor, front and rear, I physically looked at the drive shaft, while running and engaged, to see if it was turning. The drive shaft is covered with a plactic outer tube...

    Planning to buy soon

I have a similar story when I was 50 yrs old, buying 55 acres. I first bought a 1986, 24hp JD 855 in 2020 for $13,500. It's all hydrostatic. Then in 2004, I bought a used 1991 JD 870, 28 hp, all manual gears, for $17,500, with a backhoe and large rear turf tires. I like the big turf tires, they...

    Spreadsheet and price creep hell

I bought a similar property 24 years ago, and picked up a used (1986) 24 hp John Deere 855. It is big enough to run most implements, like a 60" rotary brush cutter, and a 5' york rake. I've tried a land plow, but I like the york rake better for grading. Get one with wheels for finish work with...

    Which lawn tractor to buy?

I bought a Ferris 48" 500S last year. It's a zero turn, 25 hp, nimble and fast, cuts going forward or in reverse, plenty of power for all conditions. I couldn't go bigger than 48" to go through gates, between rows or berry plantings, and around the front yard landscaping. No regrets for spending...

How Many Have More Than One Tractor?

I have two: a JD 855 hydro 24 hp, a JD 870 with backhoe and bigger bucket. The JD 870, 3-range, 3 speed trans, big turf tires, it's the most useful, most used. The compact 855 is useful for brush cutting, a power wheel barrel, moving things around the property.

Oil & Fuel 1986 JD bogs down under load (help)

This 1986 JD 855 is all hydrostatic, no gears, no clutch. I don't know anything about the hydrostatic transmission. After cleaning the injectors and running the machine, it runs much better, but still doesn't have the power it used to. Anyone ever have brakes sticking on a hydrostatic tractor...

What is the good Chainsaw for clearing?

I've only had great luck with Husquavarna. My Stihl won't hold an idle since new. The shop where I bought it couldn't help and blamed it on the emission controls. Stick to the equipment dealers that specialize in chain saws, where tree professionals might go. The size is dependent on what weight...

Oil & Fuel 1986 JD bogs down under load (help)

Thanks for letting me know about D & W. I wrote that resource down in my manual. Since removing, cleaning, and reinstalling the injectors, the machine soon started running decent again? Thanks and gratitude to all those who replied.

Oil & Fuel 1986 JD bogs down under load (help)

I couldn’t find a shop who could test the injectors. Today I read a post where the guy removed the injectors from the engine, then reattached the lines to let the tractor and the fuel injector pump do the “test” . If there’s a good spray, inject and pump should be good. I’m going to try that...

Oil & Fuel 1986 JD bogs down under load (help)

Thanks for the idea, there are no nearby dealers in my area, and before I replace the fuel injector pump, I want to find out how to test it.

Oil & Fuel  1986 JD bogs down under load (help)

My 1986 old faithful JD bogs under load and I now I can’t do much with it. The problem evolved slowly over a couple of years and I compensated running at higher rpms, then running in low range, while looking to solve problem. I’ve done the following: - checked all fuel lines, replacing as...
