Ford 1720 1992 diesel I've been reading that older diesel engines need an additive in the low sulphur fuel to make up for the extra lubrication that the higher sulphur fuel of that era.... Is this true? If so what should I use and how much per gallon???

I have a 1720 with 1700hrs runs good with some valve clatter. I'm not sure if it's any louder than it ever was but I think the manual says check the valve lifters clearance every 600 hrs... How many of you adjust your lifters as recommended???

I have a Ford 1720 that sort of growls and sound like it's gears are dry when traveling in 4 wheel drive and occasionally will pop out of 4x4... I don't generally travel with it in but sometimes I forget to take it out... I can use it with the loader, tiller, snow blower etc. with no problems...
