Just can't get a good basic truck, like the old days!

The gas tank in a Model T Ford WAS under the front seat. You had to lift the cushion to access the filler for the tank.

No, I am NOT going to try to take down a dead 100' Hickory tree!

Where are you located? I don't know of any Southern BBQ joint that doesn't use at least some hickory.

    Barbed wire vs Flail

It always amazes me how much junk is left in the fields. I boarded horses and mules on two different places and both had piles of junk lying around, just waiting to nick up the horse's legs. In 2006, I bought 20 acres that had been pasture for cows and there was old fencing left behind...

    PTO problems

Well, my buddy took the PTO apart & everything looked good inside. No chipped gears, nothing broken or out of place. He put it back together & the PTO works in the forward position, the mid position but not in the rear most position.

    PTO problems

I'll have to check with my buddy. Presently, he has the PTO cover off, trying to figure out the problem.

    PTO problems

Let's try again. My friend's newish JD 1025 is having a PTO problem. There are three positions available. All the way forward is 540, middle is 2100 & 540 and the rearmost position is 2100. When in the rearmost position, the PTO shaft is not spinning. Thoughts/comments?

How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

Looks like the WA trooper or whoever you spoke with was mistaken: 3)(a) Farm vehicles operated within a radius of twenty-five miles of the farm where it is principally used or garaged for the purposes of traveling between farms or other locations to engage in activities that support farming...

    Can’t Sell My Bushhog

A 48" bush hog is just right for an 8N Ford, here in the mountains.

My first tractor, 1951 Ford 8n

I had problems with my '49 8N not wanting to start when it was hot. My buddy the mechanic went through everything electrical on it several times. The cure? He made up a new coil wire from the resistor to the coil. That solved the problem.

Mowing Mowing a Family Friend's Field

I finally got the old 8N running again and mowed the neighbor's 3/4 acre Monday. I had mowed about half of it a week ago before my tractor started running rough, so I had to re-mow that part, plus the stuff that was 3' high. Mowed some of my property down by the old fallen down barn yesterday.

    Extra step - knee helper

What is wrong with the 8N? Gas and spark are about that can go wrong, other than the hydraulics.

    Quick Sand!

Been there, done that with my 4x4 F150, about 2 winters ago. The ground had frozen and thawed and the truck was going up a slight grade next to a spring branch (Appalachian for small stream :D). When it started sliding toward the branch, I knew it was time to STOP and call for help. My neighbor...

Non Traditional Projects (What have you done with your tractor?)

Exactly. We have timber rattlers and copperheads here in the mountains. Plus, rabid raccoons and a number of coyotes have been seen. Iffn' I've got my britches on, I have a handgun on me as well.

    My Container Barn

Let's bump this thread to the top one more time! :D As a new member to this forum, there are lots of threads I haven't read until lately. I worked in Afghanistan for three years as a police advisor, about the time this thread started. I was at a regional training center (aka police academy)...

    Ugggg Truck problems

I was in Kosovo from 2002 to 2004, as an international police officer. We had Toyota 4Runners with the diesel engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. Those were pretty much bulletproof. They survived being driven by third world types. :D

I don't know how I got along for so long without a tractor...

I bought my 20 acres while I was working overseas. I returned home the following year & bought my 8N about 5 weeks later. :) While a more modern tractor would be nicer, the little Ford does 95% of the work I need it to do.

    You "Road" Your Tractor?

I have driven my 8N from the shop to the house once, about 7 miles. I live in a county with only two red lights, both in the county seat. We have more cows than people. I see tractors on the road almost every day, when I'm out and about. No big deal around here. I had a deputy in the county...
