445 Temp gauge doesn't show any life

I haven't drained the tank and shook it but did fish all around down in it with a couple different magnets and couldn't pull anything out. Someday I'll get serious about it and try again. Thanks!

445 Temp gauge doesn't show any life

Well, i put a new temperature sending unit in the new tractor and it shows life! That tractor still seems to run much cooler than the one i had first and they both have the same thermostat in them now. I had read that the older 445s used a 160 degree thermostat but John Deere no longer sells...

445 Temp gauge doesn't show any life

Thank you! Brother came up and we got ambitious and took the gauge cluster out of both 445's and did some swapping and testing. My original 445 had a fuel gauge that's never shown any life and my most recently purchased 445 has a fuel gauge that seems to work and a dead temp gauge. Well...

445 Temp gauge doesn't show any life

I don't believe so. I started 2 different threads. One was about an overheating problem on my old 445, which has been rectified I hope. The other is about the most recently purchased 445 with 2 different problems. Rather than clutter up the forum with updates i just edited my original post to...

Washed 445, now it won't start

I don't have or know anything about a cloud, but it'll be a moot point once the paper manual is delivered! Thanks for the thought tho! Much appreciated!

445 Temp gauge doesn't show any life

Bought another 445 and like my last one needs a lot of TLC to get it back to its former glory. Maybe it should list the trouble spots and go from there? 1. Runs rough, or surges, unless at full throttle. The plugs were nasty and caked with soot so i put new plugs in with no discernable...

Washed 445, now it won't start

Actually, it was already on the second day after the washing when i tried to start it, since the pressure washer broke and i spent the rest of the day trying to fix that. Long story short the last thing i did was unplug the sensor under the air filter plate and blew it out and it fired right up...

Washed 445, now it won't start

It is the second 445 and you are correct that a service manual is needed. I do have the PDF version but it came on a cd and the only place i can view it is in the house. That makes it all but impossible to use out in the garage, so i found and ordered a printed one on ebay for about $45...

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

The reservoir cap has holes in the fiber washer and the overflow tube just lets excess coolant drip onto the ground. Maybe that's all I'm smelling but it seems quite pronounced to just be that..

Washed 445, now it won't start

Mainly the frame and undercarriage since my goal was to rectify the lift arms not moving properly. I gave a light squirt at the top of the engine as the heads and spark plugs were all but invisible from the caked on dirt and grime. I took the air cleaner off to look down into the plenum and...

Washed 445, now it won't start

I just bought another 445 so I could use one for mowing and have the loader on the other one for doing other work. I put my deck on the new 445 (which was supposed to be a 2001, but is really a 1994 according to the serial) only to find that the deck doesn't raise and lower only about an inch or...

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

Yes! As it turns out I jumped thru many hoops but i believe I've found and fixed the problem. The tractor had always run hot (not *in* the red but close) since i bought it, and i could always smell antifreeze when i ran it, so a couple winters ago i pulled it apart and went all thru it with all...

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

Well, when i got it the poor thing had been brutally misused and neglected so this has been a long journey. The radiator was so caked full of mud that it took me hours with a pressure washer to clear it out. We had a big yard job with the loader during a hot dry week so dust has worked into...

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

Ok i just tried that. The temperature gauge climbed clear past the red and stayed. I checked all over with an infrared thermometer and the top of the cylinders was about 250 in the front and 220 in the rear. The thermostat housing was about 190 and the radiator hoses both read about 187.

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

Thanks! New head gaskets and water pump, but that's not a guarantee that they aren't defective. I guess I'm more puzzled that the blinking started before the temp gauge maxed out?

    John Deere 445 dash blinking

My 445 has always ran hotter than I'd like but whenever the gauge got up to the red the thermostat would seemingly open up because the gauge would drop back to around halfway and start climbing again. The last time I had it out I noticed the center light started blinking. Its one long followed...

445 John Deere EFI blinking coded

Thanks for that list! According to this list mine is throwing the code for Water Temperature Sensor problem. My temperature gauge seems to be working, so what might i be missing?

JD 445 with 40 loader trouble

Bought a 445 back in May and have been upgrading and fixing things ever since. The latest acquisition was a JD 40 loader for it. I have found and fixed so many cob jobs done to this poor tractor that I can't count, but I thought hooking up the loader should be a piece of cake. Well, when I...

    One *HOT* 445!

Got a brand new front grill for my 445 to replace the old one that got broken when it fell off and I ran over it (long story). Well, the lawn had gotten neglected for a couple of weeks while other things were being tended to, and it was nearly a foot high. So, last night I finally got a chance...

    Looking for AM121071 Wire Harness

I've purchased a used PTO kit for my 1994 445 and I can't seem to connect it up to my harness without this mysterious AM121071 Wire Harness and I cannot find one anywhere! I've found wiring harnesses from newer 445's and wonder if that will solve my problems or will I then need that jumper wire...

    New John Deere 445 owner

Recently bought my first John Deere, an older 445 with a 54" deck. Been looking at them for years, drooling, and finally bit the bullet and bought it! Love it so far, but have found less parts available for it than I expected. Alas, that's to be expected when the tractor was made in 1994, I...

    445 rear 540 PTO

I bought a 540 rear pto kit for my 445 and the outer cases are damaged. I bought a new inner cover and am trying to take the outer cover off from the damaged inner cover and it won't come apart. To make matters worse, some of the gears fell out while I was trying to gently pull the two covers...
