    Leasing my Land

$15/acre per year is not unreasonable if the goal is to keep the land long term, without having to do upkeep on the fences. It will pay the real estate taxes on the land, the base electric charge on the property if it is still hooked up and a liability policy on the land. We have family...

    The Thievin' Bas*****

I had a new container delivered a few weeks ago and spent this past Sunday putting on a lock box and mounting a Tactacam Reveal 3.0 cellular game camera to watch over it. This is the first Tactacam I’ve had so don’t yet have a good base of feedback on it. It has a dual carrier esim that selects...

What to watch out for on a 1950s John Deere crawler/loader?

Dad has a JD 350C that broke the reverser 15 years ago and we finally got it worked on and repaired 2 years ago. Not sure if outside links are allowed but JDCrawlers.com is a great resource for these machines. Hope you get some service out of the crawler.

    Jon Boat motor

We have a small 12-32 Ouchita john boat that my dad bought the dad I was born. I used it duck hunting and fishing a bunch growing up. Mostly paddled it but skmetimes used and Johnson Seaking 3hp that had 360deg tiller steering and a shear pinned prop. We put a 15hp off my buddy’s dad’s boat one...

Electric golf cart inverter, DC to 120v AC

Only about 2 kw-hr of usable energy after efficiency losses and available power from lead acid cells. What are you planning on running with this inverter?

What size impact sockets are needed?

I have a Capri tools 1/2” impact set from Amazon. It has deep and shallow sockets 7/16 to 1-1/4 and 10-24 mm and some extensions. Decent quality, made in Tawain. The set covers most of my uses except for a few larger sizes that I get in 3/4 from Northern Tool. I use the 3/4 drive ones with an...

Shipping container weight on one end?

If your moving further than a few feet (using logs or posts as rollers as was suggested) just call a tilt back wrecker and have them move it. The one local to our place charged $250 to move them up to about 10-15 miles a few years back. Once on site we pushed them around with a little JD 350...

    Shipping Container Lock

I paid ~$100 each for two of these style boxes for my containers. Didn’t like the lower grade carriage bolts that came with them so I welded the boxes also. I like the American A700 locks and they fit great and fully protect the lock shackle from cutting attacks.

    GPS Tracker for a tractor

I installed a Logistimatics GPS tracker on our RV that we keep in an offsite storage facility. A colleague recommended them and has multiple units on trailers/equipment and has recovered one trailer twice after theft. Mine is hardwired to the trailer power system and power is connected in...

I jumped the gun... now what?

You have 15 acres of land. Get a building or a container on the property to store the tractor and start working on the land. Figure where you want a drive and the house pad, other buildings, trails etc and get after it. No reason why can’t start doing that now until it’s time to build.

    What puts mud on trees?

We have one stretch of power poles on our place that the hogs love to rub against. A few were replaced last year and they really enjoyed the fresh cresote.

    Small Apiary Barn Build

My grandfather kept bees from when he got back from France at the end of WW I till he died in 1983. At one time, he had an apiary of close to 1000 hives. Here's pic from 1938 with his honey truck. My dad's the youngest on the left. In the summer of 1980, at the age of 87, Grandaddy Pete...

    Oil question

From the Kioti CK 25/30/35 manual on https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1817265/Kioti-Ck25.html?page=93#manual SAE 30 should be used in temps above 25C/77F. IMO I would find a CK-4 15w-40 oil and just do a drain and fill. No need to swap filter. I’m seeing a lot more diesel oils recently at...

How much more would it cost you to buy your tractor(s) today?

I bought a set of pallet forks from Nick last month. First time dealing with him. I had mentioned that a guy on TBN had said he bought a 4707 from you and was waiting for it. I think he said he had 6 or 7 on order for folks and that deliveries were tough right now. He does seem to be doing...

    Adding Color to Motor Oil??

I believe you are thinking about a water finding paste. Typically smeared on the bottom of a tank strapping stick to detect presence/level of water in a bulk fuel/oil tank. The one I have is red colored that turns yellow when water is detected. As for the OP, I use the blue shop towel trick to...

    To those with cattle

We run cattle (about 35-40 cow/calf pairs) on 300 acres of family land that 50/50 pasture and woods about 100 miles west of you. Main goal of our operation is to maintain property ag exemption/pay taxes and upkeep/ maintenance of the jointly owned land. A relative who lives next to the property...

    Trailer tires…what the…

Goodyear Endurance is probably the best ST radial tire going in the 225 size. The are MiUSA and have been getting very favorable reviews on the RV forums. I have a set of them on my travel trailer and a set of 205s on my boat. If I had a trailer that took 235s I would by for it too but there...

    Shipping Tractors

Back on topic with another data point, I’m having a John Deere 350C dozer hauled about 85 miles in East Texas on Friday. Was quoted $3/mile with a $300 minimum charge. Guy is a DOT hotshot driver and runs a Ram 4500 and 30’ fifth wheel with a hydraulic dovetail.

    Firewood business with my son

Good plan on a kiosk. If you have a road frontage with good traffic that might become a good business for him. I saw this video a while back on a kiosk made with pallets.

Buying Advice *UPDATE* Just tell me what to buy!

Land pride makes a low flow SSQA auger that is spec’d to operate off of 6-15 gpm flow. It may or may not meet his needs but there are some videos of one being operated off of a small compact tractor.

Price Check Kubota M6040F Price check

That was a great price. Nothing anywhere near that these days. Most of the MFWD 6040s that I’ve seen recently with a loader are $26-32k with cab versions 5k more.

Price Check  Kubota M6040F Price check

Going this weekend to negotiate price on a 2009 Kubota M6040F tractor with a RCF2072 shredder. Tractor has about 2100hrs and is in pretty good shape over all. I’ve been given an asking price and I’m wanting to ask TBN what might be a reasonable price for this combo. Tires are in OK shape...

    Connex box (shipping container)

$4300-4500 for a 40’ HC wind and water tight is what I’m seeing in East Tx right now. $7500 for 1 tripper which is crazy.

    Pond Build

Our family property has a 12 acre lake that was built in the early 1950s. There are still logpiles in it that were big stacks of red cedar. Makes excellent structure if you can get some 12-16” butt diameter logs. You can also use tires. Drill 3 holes with a hole saw on the tread at 10, 12 and...

    Portable air tank

Don't know what your specific requirement for having the tank, but if its just air at a remote location and you have 20V battery tools, buy one of the compressor/inflators that will run on your exiting battery packs. I have a Dewalt DCC020IB and it will air truck tires to 80+psi no problem...

Reaming out holes in thick steel?

Quickest, easiest way to do this. Get a 7/8” max OD step bit. I recently enlarged a 1” hole hitch ball mount shank to 1-1/8” to fit a Cat II hitch pin this same way. Took a whole 3 minutes to do.

    Shipping container hay barn

Below is a great pic of the roof of a container for reference. I plan on bolting the pony walls down onto the beam that runs from end to end on the roof. This beam is about an inch shorter than the corners and the corrigated portion of the roof. I'll plane down a treated board so the bottom...

    Shipping container hay barn

I've been planning something similar to the OP. We are in the process of splitting up some family land co-owned by my cousins and my dad. Dad and I currently have a couple of 20' containers near the existing tractor barn on land that will eventually go to one of the cousins. Dad has 50...
