There is plenty of thread engagement, and yes both the Cross clevis and Maxim clevis each have pinch clamps. So, it is simply a matter of ensuring that the "control end pin to rod end pin lengths" are the same for both cylinders, regardless of manufacturer. I understand now per your third...

I wasn't running it. Operator said that one of the R clips was missing on the rod end pin, so the pin worked loose, started coming out, and put uneven stress on the rod-end clevis. As to Maxim rebuild, I tend to agree. The Maxim clevis are much hurkier/hercier than the Cross clevis. Sad...
