Outside storage for attatchments: How to keep the weeds down?

I have some used pressure treated plywood from a project tear down. It's rough but in tact. I plan to put it on pallets scavenged from my local small box hardware store. I'll make an attachment "row" that I can back the tractor up to, and cover with tarps.

    Auger Stand

There are some good YouTube videos on making a stand for your auger attachment. What is not provided is a way to more easily change to a different size auger - like 6" to 8" for example. Any ideas?

    Suggestions for tree removal

At my age? Call our local tree service, owned and staffed by young men with climbing gear, boom truck, chippers, etc., etc. They are licensed, bonded, insured. I would have them take the broken part off and leave the trunk there sticking up. They will take the wood away or leave it for you to...

One Tractor To Do It All?

I am pondering a second tractor to have the arena groomer on all the time, and leave the brush hog on my current JD 870. At 70, I can change implements (these are the old school, push the button with your thumb), but its a bit of a hassle and so I procrastinate sometimes.

Owning a small tractor is a blessing.

Totally agree. Two professionsal people who have worked on my compact tractor, (including the John Deere dealership) have mentioned catastrophic hydraulic failures are real. I even don't walk under the front loader when it is raised.

    Stupid Things I Have Done

As long as no people, animals, vehicles or structures were harmed, I count it a win. My most stupid/dangerous thing was trying to pull a metal rod out with the bucket. It was summer and the clay was like concrete. I chained it to the bucket and pulled and pulled. It actually started to lift one...

LS Tractor Won't Start After Hooking Up Bush Hog

To start mine, the tractor has to be out of gear and the PTO switch off. Probably too obvious.

My Stupidity kicked in at full throttle.

Did you try calling the dealer, checking the manual, or searching YouTube? The last two are my go-to. I have a 94 JD. Holding the little button down while pushing them on is very frustrating.

How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

I would avoid it. Even between me and my dad's place, 2.25 miles, there are gravel trucks and log trucks. So I have the roll bar, of course. And, I keep the seat belt on and tight. Just in case I get rear-ended by a log truck.

    Storing Tractor

I don't have a tractor shed yet. I do have a spot under a breezeway, but it puts the tractor at angle of about 15% (left to right) when parked there. It does keep it out of the rain. But wondering if there is any bad effects of it being parked in an unlevel position.

    Electric pressure washer reviews

I prefer my Honda gas pressure washer. It is a beast and can go forever. Some people don't like to handle gas or worry about gumming up the carburetor, so an electric would be a good option. For my gas pressure washer, I use clear premium and run it dry if I'm not going to use it for a while.

    Parking with loader bucket raised?

Do you put the shelf under it and them move the control lever all the way to the down position? In this way, I would assume there is no pressure on the hydraulic system of the tractor. I want to leave the bucket a better position to throw manure into for its trip to the manure pile.

    You "Road" Your Tractor?

My dad and I are partners on a 28 HP compact JD for our hobby farms. We live 2 miles apart so just drive it. I always wear my seat belt. The tractor has a roll bar. We do get big gravel trucks going fast, so if you get rear ended by one of those and get tossed off the road, the roll bar and seat...

    Using the Bucket

For the life of me, I have never been able to load the bucket from a pile of gravel, sand or manure pile. The other day I had a project done and one of the workers used my tractor (JD 870) to move some sand from my sand pile. He got the bucket full and the pile had a smooth "cut" into it, not...

Towing gooseneck horse trailer with 3/4 ton gas powered truck

I have an older (1999) Ford F250 SD with the 7.3. The max payload of this year is a low 1800 pounds. I understand that with a GN, 25% of the weight of the trailer is on the pickup as opposed to about 16% of a bumper pull trailer. A lot of the LQ I've seen where the dry weight is actually given...

    power tool recommendation

I have a Honda for home use. Probably overkill and I now consider Harbor Freight brands and Craftsman for other equipment, but that day at Home Depot I just decided to buy Honda. The only maintenance has been to change the oil as directed and air up the tires a couple times. I run clear premium...

So cool. You'll create some memories for sure. The big thing in Oregon right now for horses is Teff. Has about 7.2% sugar. Yes, horses are becoming pre-diabetic as well as humans.

    You already know this, but….

Still love my 99 F250 7.3 SD super cab. 156,000 miles. I bought used 16 years ago and have worked out all the little bugs. The only thing I don't like about it is the older ones have a much more limited payload than the newer ones. It even says in the manual do not put a camper on this truck...

Trailer choice before I make a mistake

My only contribution is check the payload rating. You may be surprised. I bought a 1999 F250 SD 7.3 years ago. The payload specification is only 1800 pounds. It specifically says in the owners manual "Do not put a camper on this truck". I think the 7.3 is wasted on something with this low...

Buying Advice Looking for a tractor

Depending on your location, look for a local farmer/rancher to lease it and grow crops, make hay, or run cattle. The cost of fencing it could be a lot less than buying a tractor. You may also be able to get a farm deferral on property taxes. I've turned some of my acreage into hay pasture and a...

    logsplitter question

We have a self powered splitter that lives at our house since my 96 year old dad got a ductless heat pump. Just too old to bring logs in with the tractor and turn them into fire wood. We used it some for some peeler log rounds. Now we buy our wood from a local guy and it fits our wood stove just...

    PTO for beginners

I have a JD 870, about 1994 model. It has a front loader (bucket), brush hog and two sizes of post hole drills. I also have an arena groomer (not PTO). I am learning about the maintenance and changing implements since my elderly dad used to take care of that. It is very serviceable for my needs...

Attaching field fence to back of t post

I agree with others about putting in your own fence the right way and not using the existing T posts. When the owner or next renter sees that you have used them, you may be faced with doing your own fence anyway if they want to remove the existing fence that you have hung your fencing on. You...

    Fuel stabalizer

I use premium gas with Stabil for my generator and riding lawn mowers. Since I have a small stock pile of gas for power outages, the Stabil is important so gas will last a while. Run them dry after exercising generator and at end of season with lawn mowers. I run clear premium in the pressure...

    County Road Easement Cleanup

My county does that, probably to keep fire danger down. I'm actually looking at having that done to my drainage ditches, drainage pond surround and blackberries thickets by a contractor. They say it will all be mulched down to the ground and I can then use my compact tractor and brush hog to...

    bush hog recommendation

We had a 6' on our JD 870. It stuck out on both sides and I tended to hang it up on close-to-fence work. After it gave up the ghost, we replaced it with a 5', which I like much better. I only have about 6 acres to mow, so slightly more time is not an issue. By the way, I would have gone with...

    Greetings from Western Oregon

I've looked around on this forum and found some great information. So, thought I'd join. My dad and I purchased, in 2002, a 1994 John Deere 870 with a front loader, brush hog, and two hole drills (I think 6" and 8"). Over time, he added a back blade to the implement collection. He welded hooks...
