Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Testing it with some old straw. Started with poly 140lb orange line. Initially right side missed every knot, loop in line #2. Loosened twine disc tension and bale tension got it tying 3/4 bales. Couldn't not get it any better than this. Missed ties look like they unravelled, no knot on either...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Thanks! It's obvious I have never done work with chains before. The chain was so dirty it was really hard to find that master link but sure enough it was there. I've tightened up that twine pull out tensioner. I'll have to check the twine disc tension as well. The feeder forks where way off...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Help, Can't get chains off baler! Started checking timing according to manual and I am stumped on something that should be obvious. I need to take the chain off and back on to set the feeder forks position. I can't get the feeder chain or the main drive chain off. I've removed the tensioners...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Getting close to starting this hay project! Have the rake and baler. 6' Tar River drum mower coming this week with hydraulic lift. Working on the baler. Before doing anything running it by hand one knotter would tie almost every time and the other would fail ever time with the knot stuck in...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

So pretty sure I am going to get the JD rake and baler. Next decision for a mower. Was basically set on a new Tar River BDR 6' Drum mower for $4000 with hydraulic lift. Saw this haybine when I was looking at used equipment. $1500, supposed used last year. Located in central Indiana. Wasn't...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

Doing some loader work to try it out and noticed the loader will not raise and curl at the same time. Is this a problem with my tractor or just a limitation of how this hydraulic system and loader are designed? If it matters it looks like they installed a WR Long 3rd fx kit.

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

They got the 3rd fx installed and hydraulic top link, delivered yesterday. Ordered MTL RK5 60" Grapple, got lucky a few days ago and 1 unit became available for order.

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

I'm not anywhere near retiring. We have a barn to store all equipment. I'll probably be picking up the bales myself, or maybe pallet forks on the FEL could be used to get all the bales in the trailer? My significant other, she will probably do a lot of the tractor work while I'm tied up at work...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Thanks for all the comments, seems to reinforce my gut feeling that I should buy the JD and if I can't get the bailer working right I'm out minimal or ahead reselling it. I have zero knowledge on balers so I am considering taking it to my dealer to go through before I start learning and...

Hay Equipment for 50hp Tractor, small acreage.

Another option came up, family of a friend has an old John Deere Rake and Baler, has been sitting in the barn unused for 10+ yrs. He said last he used it is bales pretty well but misses a knot every 20 bales and you have to pull the bale out? To get it going again. He doesn't think the rake had...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

Quick attach Forks are coming with the tractor delivery. For snow I am planning on just using the FEL and Rake. I only had to do our drive once last winter, if it's less than a few inches I just leave it be. Also I was thinking about getting a 3pt auger with 9" bit for planted trees. FEL...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

Bought the Boomer 50 with cab! Waiting on third fx and hydraulic top link to come in and get installed before I get it delivered. Maybe 1wk or so. Also getting a set of 42" pallet forks. Next purchases, I think will be: MKL RK5 60" Grapple King Kutter 84" YR-G Rake -Still contemplating those...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

The $32000 price of the Boomer 50 seemed like too good of a deal. Rechecked with them and that was the non cab price! Boomer 50 with FEL +cab is $36650. Haven't heard anything from Bobcat yet about getting the 2540 from another dealer. Even with the higher price I am still really considering...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

Lots of good points I am still waiting on Bobcat to see if they can get a 2540 from another dealer, they have found several of them but haven't talked the other dealers into giving one up yet. I am a little worried about the bigger size of the Boomer, it may not fit under the side awnings...

Bobcat 2540 vs NH Boomer 50 Cab

We were decided on the Bobcat 2540, but deliver has moved out from initial they told us 6weeks, to now just before placing the order they rechecked and are now 4 months out. So we have looked at some additional options. 2540 with FEL and cab priced at $30,000 delivery mid August. (37hp) NH...

Drum mower for hay and all purpose? 3/4 remotes and TnT?

For the 165/185 do you recommend hydraulic lift for it or not? And how high do you cut grazing pastures for weed control, like 4" or higher?

Drum mower for hay and all purpose? 3/4 remotes and TnT?

It's possible the literature is wrong/confusing on the remotes, but it says option for 4 rear hydraulic remotes. I asked the dealer for a quote for the extra 2 rear remotes and the sales rep said they are already included. I am sure he is confused and counting 4 ports for 2 remotes as 4 remotes...

Drum mower for hay and all purpose? 3/4 remotes and TnT?

Thanks for the drum mower insight, the cut height is not adjustable? The tractor we are looking at comes with 2 rear remotes, they have an option for 2 extra rear remotes installed but not sure on price guessing around 1k. Maybe I should just stick with 2 rear remotes which would be enough for...

Drum mower for hay and all purpose? 3/4 remotes and TnT?

Looking at our first tractor. 20 acres, small livestock with about 5 acres of pasture (several small 1/2 acre fenced in and one larger open pasture), 5 acres woods. Midwest, some snow but not much, will plow 1/4 mile driveway 1-3 times per year typically. Probably getting Bobcat CT 2540, 37hp...

    Help pick options for CT2540

I am also strongly considering the cruise control and 2 extra remotes. Don't think I will get a top and tilt right now but nice to have the option down the road Industrial tires best option? Will be drying on dry sandy fields, some slopes and yard grass Is the front loader quick attach...

    Help pick options for CT2540

Looking at getting two implements to take advantage of the $400 off special with two. Thinking pallet forks (if so what length forks should I get for it, 48"?) And was initially think 7' angle blade, but since that is not able to take hydraulics maybe it would be better to get land pride blade...
