Talk me out of an excavator!

I've got 57 acres (WI) and bought a Kubota mini a few years ago. I do regret that -- because I should have bought one sooner! I do not clean out the underbrush in our woods, but I do use it (with a Toolcat - which I would not live without) to harvest fallen trees for firewood. A primary use...

Normal for thumb to drop when Kubota KX057 Excavator is shut down?

No problems during operation and I've seen no (obvious) leaks. I just thought it odd, but I don't know anything about the plumbing of the hydraulic system for the thumb -- I just thought all the hydraulics would behave the same in this regard.

    Radiator removal?

Ok, as luck would have it, I can answer my own question :-) I got the radiator out in minutes by holding the hose clamp with a pliers while I pulled the hose off the radiator from the machine side. It doesn't even need to come through the hole in the frame -- there is room to get it off the...

Normal for thumb to drop when Kubota KX057 Excavator is shut down?

I'm a new mini excavator owner (love the machine) and am wondering if it's normal that the thumb on the excavator drops when I'm parked in the shed (machine off, of course). I ask because if I leave the bucket an inch or so off the concrete, it'll be in the same spot the next day (or next week)...

    Radiator removal?

I've got the service manual for my F series Toolcat 5600 and, still, I can't get the radiator out. I saw a post on another site where someone else was having the same issue, but they never posted an answer. So, I'm wondering if anyone has removed the radiator in their Toolcat 5600 and, if so...

    KX057 Excavator: Track wear question

Wow - nice setup! Thanks for sharing - I didn't know about pintle hitches but looked them up.

    KX057 Excavator: Track wear question

You have to be pushing the limits (assuming that's a standard class V hitch), right? How much is your setup all combined with trailer? That is the one downside I've found -- I don't have a towing package that'll move the excavator -- next truck will have to have a gooseneck ball and then I...

    KX057 Excavator: Track wear question

Thanks to everyone for the quick and helpful replies -- what a great resource this group is for newcomers like me. @t320pilot - Yep, this is a sweet machine for 10ft grapevines and stumps. I'm reclaiming property from crazy straight line winds that hit us several years back and took out...

    KX057 Excavator: Track wear question

I got the cab w/ angle blade. Have had a Bobcat Toolcat 5600 for years and wouldn't give it up - and pairing it with the excavator is excellent. I've got the root grapple on the bobcat to move around piles of logs/brush and the excavator lets me dig out stumps and reach things the bobcat...

    KX057 Excavator: Track wear question

I just bought a KX057-5 and it's my first excavator (for property maintenance). I've been doing a lot of research trying to educate myself on operation and common maintenance. Anyway, I've only got 5 hours on the machine and I noticed that the tracks are showing metal on the "lugs" that I...
