The one thing that you wonder why you didn't buy sooner?

A set of small magnetic trays and magnetic wrist band. Not a buy but 'systems thinking' is something I wish I had done sooner. Like where I place tools, fuel, grease, tractor, batteries and chargers, etc, in relation to each other but also grouped by jobs and how I physically move around the...

1.5 acres. Am I nuts for thinking about a tractor?

We’ve got 2.5 acres, ~15 degree slope, garden recovery, lawn, trees, clay soil, veggie beds, 70 year old timber house. Bought a BX23S with underbelly mowing deck, also liked Kubota or JD equivalents. It’s like having an 800lb gorilla with a swim army knife. And always sitting there when I have...

    wood pallets under gravel driveway?

Good point, no snow. It's holding up really well considered we had 300mm (12 inches) of rain last month, three times normal (Australia) which washed out lots of gravel driveways. That 'cellular' concept (with metal pins) really made the difference. If OP is going to use plastic pallets, I would...

    wood pallets under gravel driveway?

We have this clay here and a 15 deg slope. - box bladed subsurface clean - laid weed mat fabric on clay with pins - a layer of crushed rock with fines - compacted - geohex panels with pins - finished with ‘toppings’ crushed rock Expensive but I’ll only cry once

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

OOhhhh. Ya know, by brain hadn't even considered modifying the bucket itself. I was just thinking about the FEL or the system as a whole. Yeah, I'm new to machinery. Thanks mate.

Those both look great and I’m a fan of both brands, Kioti is great value… but… neither of those models are available in Australia.

Thanks for the share. What do you mean you ‘cut off’, why not just unpin it? And duly noted on the ‘lower everything’ thx

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks mate, @Opti-Mist also recommended the 3PH quick hitch as well. Something odd I wonder if you could give some insight on. The FEL and 4-in-1 buckets that come with most of these SCUTS (Kubota included) here in Victoria are not SSQA/Euro Quick Attach, they are Pin On. Once a month, I...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

I've been bush bashing this Simplicity Broadmoore around here for a few years now with a mulching kit installed. It's held up to the abuse but it's clearly not the best tool for the job. Much debris has met it's match under this deck, and more than one belts have died because of it!

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Yeah I did. The MMM has some benefits for my jobs. I need to mow the dog run and the 'nice grass' close to the house and I think the MMM will be easier for visibility, turning around and reverse operation in those tighter areas. The 3 point hitch swings out when I turn, hitting the 'nice fence'...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks @Slowpoke Slim @MESSMAKER Yes I'm coming to that conclusion re the slope, 4WD and some weight and I'm golden. A zero turn... you're not wrong but none of my neighbours use them. They complain about slipping downslope when grass is damp, clearance and comfort over rough ground (like...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks to everyone who said something like this. It's taken me to two weeks to finally put my arse on the four options as there isn't much stock around. But the vibe of the tractor is a real thing. Can't explain it, ergonomics perhaps, all good tractors but: 1st Kubota BX23S (not sure sure...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

I've kept this comment in my pocket every time I'm tempted to bump up to CUT. If I stick to SCUT I get a happy wife as I stay within budget and I get better access to smaller spots. It'll do most everything, only slower, and that's fine with me.

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks mate, it's taken a couple weeks for me to get around to dealers (stock shortages) and the word on the street is water for rear tyres 'cause we're tight arses and it doesn't get that cold here. I also asked about spacers and the Kubota dealers won't sell them as they void warranty. Nothing...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

They do look mighty... but... no dealer in my state and their website doesn't list any dealers at all. I've left a voicemail for em, ya never know, but without local support, it's unlikely. Shame cause I love an ugly but useful machine.

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks redman, Most of the time just high enough for ground clearance transport from one spot to another. But if I could get firewood up to 127cm/50inch high then I could dump it in the back of my ute and save some trips. I was planning on a 3rd service on the front for a 4-in-1 bucket. Is that...

Buying Advice SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Thanks for the welcome mate. I'm up in VIC, not far (enough) from the city, so we're a bit lucky with dealer access but you're not wrong about one-horse towns. Chainsaws for example, when we moved here, I learnt the correct answer is Stihl, from our Arbourists to our fire brigades and the local...

Buying Advice  SCUT/CUT for a newbie on 2.5 acre 15d slope, what should I think about?

Long time listener, first time caller. After five years man-handling our block with a 54" 25HP Petrol (Gas) 2WD ride-on mower, tow along 'trailer' and hand tools, I need to upgrade and could use your experience. The problem I need to solve is I'm asking too much of my mower, belts slip or...
