    JD 4100 starting issue

I have a 4300, very similar, while I had a similar problem mine turned out to be the fuel pump not developing enuf pressure, but since what you've done indicates electric I would try the following, 1 chk the ground point 2 chk the sockets for the relays in the power centers and the fuse...

    Hydraulic hose bulge

I have a 24 yr old JD with FEL and drag box, my habit is to change all hoses in a set when 1 goes bad. All the hoses except 1 were original when I bought it. When 1 fel hose went bad I replaced all 8, when 1 steering hose went bad both got done, soon it will probably be the 4 main transfer...

    john deere 3520 wont start.

Chk the wiring to the back of the start switch, there should be 1 main wire in and a bunch out. Also check the relays that plug in to the fuse/distribution panel.

    hydro issues

Have a 2001 JD 4300, runs great but recently bought a stump bucket, when forcing bucket into ground to remove stumps of scrub oak, tractor seems to not have enuf power, runs good but won't rip up roots, I'm thinking either the hydro pump, possibly a bypass of some kind or possibly low hydro oil...

    Hydraulic hose prices (unbelievable !)

Have a 23/24 yr old JD 4300, blew a FEL hose and replaced all 8, cost $750 from local JD. They will always go when you need them the most. When a steering cylinder hose leaked replaced both, another $160, but the bad part was getting to the upper ends.

    JD 4300 Brakes

How tough is it to replace brakes on a JD 4300, my wife won't drive it because the brakes are to tuff to push to stop.

Titan Stump Bucket Sale - not so much

Bought a set of their pallet forks, work great, they were recommended by my neighbor, a retired JD dealer and mechanic, but considering the current world conditions I would rather not buy from the covid commanders.

    Stuck in the pond

a snatch block allows you to multiply the pulling power of a winch, , just tie a pulley to two or more trees run the cable from the winch thru one pulley then the other and then to an anchor point. this assumes the winch is on the tractor, this way a 5000lb winch can generate 10-15k lbs of pull.

    Are You A Gambler?

Be careful with Iron Planet, they are only in it for the money, a few years ago I was in an auction with them, they had a bunch of Kubota's for sale, when the first one sold they decided that was the 'floor' price for the rest. I should also note that they are the agency selling off the material...

    Won't start after recharging battery

Had the same problem with my JD 4300, put a battery analyzer on it and when under load it dropped to about 9 volts, but showed a good 12v when not under load, new battery fixed the problem.

    Pricing pallet forks

Bought a set from Titan at 60", great for large light lifts but sometimes a little too long, was reccomended by my neighbor, a former JD dealer, they work great, but remember it's not the capacity of the fork so much as the capacity of the loader frame, my 4300 is rated at about 1500 lbs way...

    Suggestions on 20” pro saw

I have had and have multiple brands from Craftsman , Poulan and Echo but never a Stihl, mostly due to cost and my frequency of use, but I have used one and the are awesome, the reason most tree guys and loggers use them is because down time is waste time. I understand the reason you don't find...

PTO Generator inadequate for larger HP motors?

One more thing, with all the electrical theory mentioned in this thread I did not see any mention of K factor. With the introduction of VFD's and electronic ballasts, the Code began to address K factor about 25 yrs ago. Basically K factor will not impact homes but could in a large setting like a...

PTO Generator inadequate for larger HP motors?

Just an old electrician who installed gensets for over 40 years in hospitals and nursing homes where sizing is critical. Generac makes a line , available online, 18-22 kw with 200 amp auto transfer switch (ATS) for about $8k last time I checked. Installation should be easy with a competent...

In order to connect to house, best to use manual or automatic transfer switch.

PTO Generator inadequate for larger HP motors?

Much more efficient to get a small diesel generator than to tie up your tractor. Running a 32hp tractor to run a 3hp pump doesn't make any sense to this old electrician. A 10kw genset will produce about 45amps at 120/240 vac. Or get a propane one, much better in cold weather and quieter. I run...

Help Me Design/ Build a Shop

Having been in construction for 45+ years as an electrical contractor I have done design/build for residential and commercial, I have learned that you must think of your electrical needs as you do your well, how much you need depends on how many things you need to do at the same time. Lights and...

Weak brakes & battery box confusion.

Let's try to sum up all the above posts, that battery is a approx 4ah lead acid gel cell, it's marked "OK 3/23" that means it was tested then, not manufactured then, there will be a number on the top either stamped or cast into the plastic, you can figure out the date code or go to manufacturers...

    4300 hydro

Thanks everybody, turns out the bolt from foot pedal to the actuator rod came loose and I topped off the fluid. Now everything is great again. I don't know whether it was low fluid or the loose bolt that was causing low speed, but it's fixed now. Does anyone else think that that 'sight glass' is...

Welder / Wiring for Small Garage

30 amps will work fine on 8/3 even on 10/3, but if you are running 240v use 8/2 or 10/2 either with ground, we never count the ground in the conductor count, also voltage drop won't need to be considered until over 125', and at 240v 8/2 with ground would take VD off the problem. Was electrical...

    4300 hydro

Narrow and shallow ditch digging advice please

Try borrowing a ditcher from a landscaping or sprinkler installer, they are narrow and shallow, second try renting a burrower, utility companies use them to burrow from hole to hole without disturbing the ground to much. Was electrical contractor for 40 yrs.

    John Deere 4300 won't crank

There are a couple of relays that have to engage to crank , the K4 relay is the engine run relay and is probably the 'click' you hear when you turn the key but when you turn the key to start it must engage the K2 start relay which sends power to the starter solenoid. If it don't crank it may be...

    4300 hydro

I've got a 2000 4300 with a hydro, recently an oil leak from a steering hose sidelined my rig, hoses fixed oil replaced, but rig didn't travel as fast. Now did some work with the loader, worked fine and came back to work some more and rig won't move, pushed on reverse and nothing and then fwd...

Problem after changing fuel filter on JD 4500

On my 4300 the fuel pump went bad, drained the tank , drained the filter and replaced the element, cracked the lines all the way to the pump to eliminate most air, used priming pump lever on left of pump to build up pressure then , after successive starts it has run ever since.

    Relays and diodes

When any DC run coil is shut off the collapsing field of the coil becomes a generator for an instant, in my former work we used to see this when magnetic locks and magnetic door holders were shut off, in 24vdc systems this "snap" could generate 25000 volts at virtually no amps but would ruin...

    electrical trouble shooting

Because these tracs bounce and rattle a lot a small "leak" can be nasty over time sitting, I have a truck that has this problem, most modern vehicles are designed to be driven frequently, and have a small draw when sitting, what I did was to install a battery disconnect switch at the battery and...

Things to do in Northern California?

I lived in NorCal almost all my life and drove a service truck 40-50k a year so I've been all over, while the redwoods way up north are truly awesome it would be about 8 hrs drive, however there are 2 other redwood forests in NorCal, 1 in the area around Santa Cruz which is about 60 miles south...

    Slow drive

I have a 2000 JD4300, recently I blew a steering hose and lost a lot of fluid before I caught it, fast fwd new hoses and fill the fluid to sight glass and now it seems awful slow across the ground, FEL, grade box and 3 pt all seem to work fine but I'm an electrical guy not a hydraulic guy and...

    John Deere 990 won't start

On my 2000 JD 4300 the K4 Engine Run Relay controls power to the solenoid, because of the placement of the load center it is subject to dirt, moisture and corrosion, also check the diode block as the feed to the solenoid ties to it, my diode block was about $25 from JD and JD's website didn't...
