The guy that put the engine internals together says "The rings are not seated yet end the smoking is normal. Just give it a couple hours of work"

There were ridges and water damage. The shop said they did not need sleeves since 040 cleaned them up. Is all I know

Ford 6610 PTO will not shut off. It just slows down a little bit when disengaged.

The owner wants it perfect! It will be fixed! I understand what you are saying.

I wish I had your experience to draw from. -I saw him check the crank bearings and they were well within the tolerance listed in the manual. I do not remember the numbers -It is a new Oil pump (I know that does not mean not defective) The oil pressure gets low at RPMs less than 800 and after...

Because the the great paint job on the cover will be scratched when removing it to repair the PTO

Thanks! It seems like a beast with those big 4wd front tires. The power steering is smooth as silk....like it is not even touching the ground. The best part is no electronics.

The manual one is an actual oil pressure gage with a short copper tube running to it. The electric one has a sender. I have a separate Low Oil Pressure alarm sender to a obnoxious buzzer. I put the manual one on for initial start up and to check make sure the electric one was reading right...

Ford 6610 PTO will not shut off. It just slows down a little bit when disengaged.

Thanks as I remember I had one on an 8N I had because the bush hog would push the tractor when you tried to stop

Ford 6610 PTO will not shut off. It just slows down a little bit when disengaged.

Is the brake in the back by the PTO or under the seat? thanks

Ford 6610 PTO will not shut off. It just slows down a little bit when disengaged.

I tried to stop it by wedging a 2x4 up against the shaft to see if it had force behind it.It just ground a big notch in it. The owner is going to hook a bush hog on it and see if it running it a little will help

Do I access that from the top or the rear....wow that sounds bad...lol

Ford 6610 PTO will not shut off. It just slows down a little bit when disengaged.

I looked up the trouble shooting in the PDF service manual. It seems it is more complex than I would have thought it was. The tractor had been sitting for sometime before I brought it back to life. I told the owner to hook his bush hogg to it and just run it and see if it frees itself up. I know...

Previous Tractor repair shop. Discovered the loose bolts and the gear was one tooth off when I took it apart

The valve seats were reground. It smells like Oil for sure. No it did not smoke that much that but it had a dead very low compression cylinder (Broken Ring) and water damage in 3 cylinder walls. The tractor shop replaced the head gasket and put in back together like that without a torque wrench...

I appreciate your input from first hand experience! I am so use to heat being an issue I did a Preemptive strike against it but I did put a switch in line for cold winters 60F...lol You are so tactful Thanks again

He did not check all of them. He put clevite on everything. I saw him check one ring only. I think he was trusting the machine shop that it was OK. Good catch. 45 Minutes run time. Thanks

I added all the information that was done in the original post...Sorry for not including it from the begining. The valve guide were done. It has a new radiator and water pump. I was surprised how low the temperature stayed. I actually added a high temperature alarm (235f), an electric fan to...

I hope you are right! The pressure coincides with the 2 oil pressure gages. one electric one i installed on the dash and the manual one on the side of the motor. Thanks

The guy that put the engine internals together says "The rings are not seated yet end the smoking is normal. Just give it a couple hours of work"

The muffler is just sat up there at this point since I have not put the hood on yet. Black ink like oil runs out of the junction between the muffler and the manifold. It runs down the motor and the fan blows it back on the valve cover and gas tank. It has smoke coming out of the muffler before...

The guy that put the engine internals together says "The rings are not seated yet end the smoking is normal. Just give it a couple hours of work"

The Oil is great until it gets up to operating Temperature. 60psi at cold start up then 45psi after it is warms to 140F as long as the RPMs above 1200. Then it gets weird....oil pressure drops radically below 1000 rpm to below 16psi at 800rpms (per low pressure alarm I added to build) the gage...

The guy that put the engine internals together says "The rings are not seated yet end the smoking is normal. Just give it a couple hours of work"

The engine only has about 30 or 45 minutes of runtime on it right now and that is basically been slow and fast idle. It is boiling black oil out of the exhaust manifold that runs down the engine. He said since it is Florida that it is not necessary to put a thermostat in it. I noticed that it...

The Tractor repair place is a mess to say the least. There are 1/2 fixed tractors sitting outside with a leaking tarps covering them everywhere. He is very old and probably did a good job 30 years ago. He had taken the head off and put it back on with rust still insife the cylinders. He must he...

Than you for your input. I did that and I am concerned about getting sub standard parts since I am not that familiar with tractor parts manufacturers. I see RELIANCE appears everywhere for engine parts. I do not want to tear it down again. I m being careful on internal parts that are labor...

Thanx for the reply. I could only post 10 pix so you can't see the damage. The pistons would not come out from the top and there was water damage in two of the cylinders. It seamed like it needed sleeves but ended up boring did the trick. The clutch disc was worn out but it had even ware and...

A friend of mine had his tractor and baler burn do to a bad bearing. He bought a ford 6610 4wd from a neighbor at the suggestion of the tractor repair shop. The repair man needs to retire IT WILL NEVER GET FIXED. After 3 months he checked the compression and nothing but bad news. I picked the...
