The accountant says we can retire early. Woohoo!!!

Congratulations! I retired in 2018 at 55. Then in 2020, I was asked to help out for a couple of months at a local business (Covid caused them to need another person). I'm still there, working part time for half the year. But I am thinking of quitting again, this time it is going to stick.

EV owners of today and tomorrow

I would have done the same, given those same choices. That said, many hybrid owners get higher mpg than advertised. For example, I am consistently averaging 43 mpg in my hybrid Maverick, which significantly exceeds the EPA estimates. Other owners report the similar results.

The Dreaded Homeowners Insurance Bill has Arrived

For that reason, I re-shop insurances nearly every year. Insurance companies punish loyalty. But, even when I remain with the same company, I can often find savings.

The Dreaded Homeowners Insurance Bill has Arrived

State Farm will not insure us. It is not that we heat with wood, but rather that we have no other source of heat (the woodstove is "primary.") I think the fear is frozen pipes and water damage more than fire.

The Dreaded Homeowners Insurance Bill has Arrived

Try Farmers, they will insure us, but nobody else will. Main reason is because we heat exclusively with a wood stove. We also live in a fire prone area. I don't even know where the nearest hydrant is, but certainly the better part of a mile away, at least.

Dumpster diving finds - let's see yours

No photos, but I once got a TV from an apartment dumpster. It worked perfectly, and as newlyweds who couldn't afford such luxuries, we appreciated it. We used it for about 5 years, then sold it for $50. That was in the late 80s. As a college student, I used to forage food from the Kroger...

EV owners of today and tomorrow

I drive a Volt, and a Maverick hybrid. The Volt goes about 38 miles on a charge, then burns gas. Most of our miles are electric, so it is "like" an EV in our use. I always charge only at home, that is how most real life EV users do it. It takes 15 seconds to plug it in, and sure beats going...

    Snow  Can a 25 hp MT 225s handle a 6ft blade?

I am looking at a used snowplow for my LS MT 225s. The blade comes in two widths, 5ft and 6ft, and it designed for "25 to 40 hp" tractors. It will be used to plow a long gravel driveway. The used one I am looking at is the 6ft width. Frankly, I would rather have the 5ft blade, but it is used...

First time plowing with SSQA plow, float mode just digs into the driveway

I am trying to figure out my plan for the next winter. I have for years used an old pickup with a plow to clear my 800 ft driveway. The truck is gone (RIP), the tractor is now going to provide the brute force to do the job. So, help me - why a pusher rather than a plow?

The bottom boxes are not connected or open to each other in any way. So, in the left stack there is a queen, and in the right stack there is a queen. Beekeeping

I set up a couple of double queen hives over the last few days. I have never done this before, but the concept is that the combined colonies will act like one huge colony, boosting honey production above that which the two separate colonies would produce. So far, based on the activity...

LS LB 1300 backhoe stabilizer hoses routing

My LS 225S with the LB1300 backhoe (dealer installed) seems to have the stabilizer hydraulic lines routed non-optimally? See the photo below. With the lines in the current configuration (above the step), mounting or dismounting the rig is a bit of a hazard. Additionally that 270 degree bend...
