Ok so it’s a broken PTO clutch connector. The plastic housing is broken. I need to get some wire and hard wire it together. Is that ok to hardwire it in rather than relying on a plastic clip and connector?

Update: Got the new PTO Switch and installed it. Checked all the wiring and there is a loose connection down by the clutch but it’s connecting. Turned the engine on and it runs fine like normal. Engage the switch and I get movement in the blades but the engine bogs and dies. This is progress...

Everything was different back in the late 80s. It’s a toggle switch that you have to lift and push up to engage the blades. The lights are on a push-pull knob. There are 3 different belts under the mower. One is drivetrain, one is to engage the deck and one is to engage the blades. No foot gas...

No safety switch. There is only a hand lever that I have to “shift” into forward, neutral, reverse. I’ve tried engaging in all 3 modes. Same result

So I completely unhooked the clutch electrically, turned the mower on, engaged the switch and it still died. Does this indicate a bad switch or still could be a bad clutch? Sorry not really used to working on these engines.

What overrides should I put in place other than the seat bypass?

I think I’ll start with replacing the dash switch and see if that fixes the issue. I don’t have a way to bench test my clutch or test the wiring. While the mower is off, how much place should the clutch have?

I just removed the belt and tried again. It turns off when I go to engage the blades. So you’re saying that means it’s the PTO or wiring? Where would you start?

Seat safety switch still works perfect With and without the bypass. However, I still cannot get the blades to engage. The lawnmower still shuts off as soon as I go to engage them like I’ve turned off the key.

I will check that first thing in the morning and bypass it then try again. Thank you!

That is my mower deck. For clarification it’s actually the top pulley at the bottom of that picture that keeps throwing the belt

It’s as if I turn the key to the off position. I will continue to look into why it’s throwing the belt. At the moment I haven’t the slightest idea. It does look like there is a minor wave in the front pulley but not enough for the belt to throw.
