    Just another junk chainsaw

What's the verdict on using thin flexible fuel line for an impulse hose? I was having some intermittent running/starting issues with my recently acquired 041AV and based on the overall condition of the saw decided to spring for some tune-up parts including new fuel lines, impulse hose, air...

    Just another junk chainsaw

I can relate. I was bored the other day and pulled down a Stihl HS45 that I had picked up from my dads place 15 years ago or so. He told me it wasn't running and he didn't need it. I had never looked at it until this past week as I was in "resurection" mode on some old stuff laying around. Runs...

Anyone experienced increased NO2 emissions on modern tractors with DPF?

I may look into re-routing the exhaust as well. We'll see how it goes in a few more days. I've got tractor work piling up. Feeling better and able to take deeper breaths again but still coughing up some blood tinged phlegm. Never experienced any issues my entire life on a non-emissions tractor...

Anyone experienced increased NO2 emissions on modern tractors with DPF?

I have heard either may be possible from multiple sources as far as total NOX output. Apparently if the engine is designed to normally run at lower exhaust temps then the extra NOX produced in the process of burning off the built up particulates in the DPF filter during regen is still less...

Anyone experienced increased NO2 emissions on modern tractors with DPF?

Noted. I should have known racking up hours sitting in the barn was a bad idea. LOL. Battery acid? Is that code for moonshine? :)

Anyone experienced increased NO2 emissions on modern tractors with DPF?

I would be interested to know if others have run into issues with lung irritation/inflammation on newer emission controlled tractors that have a DPF system installed. I picked up a new tractor about 7 weeks ago and have put 60 hours on it so far. It's a diesel unit with DPF. I noticed a rather...

    Just another junk chainsaw

Checked the no load RPM on the 41AV before testing it out on a fresh blow down this morning. As suspected it was running fast, 13200 no load RPM max. I settled on 11,500 for no load max RPM for the moment. I need to see if I can hunt down the specs for it. Anyone happen to know a good max RPM...

    Just another junk chainsaw

I saw that the other day. As you said, cool but crazy price. I can't imagine anyone but a dedicated collector with really deep pockets even considering it.

    Just another junk chainsaw

Great thread. I love older saws! Added a Stihl 041AV to the collection today. Probably 40+ years old? A neighbor gave it to me for coming by and cutting up a large oak that had fallen across his driveway. He said he hadn't managed to get it to run in several years. I brought it home, cleaned...

what on earth does electricity cost near you?

2700sq ft house. Just me and the dog anymore. Gas for the stove and supplementary heat if needed during the winter. Heat pump. Woodstove. It's spring so not a lot of heat or AC required. April bill was $105.45 for 622kw used, roughly 17 cents per KW.

LS Tractor Won't Start After Hooking Up Bush Hog

I could be a bad ignition switch or connection, bad spot on the starter, etc. A couple things you can check: Does the 12v control wire to the starter solenoid go hot when you turn the ignition to start? If it doesn't then you likely have a safety, ignition switch, or ignition wiring issue...

The wood would likely weigh as much as the tractor so that could get interesting in a hurry for sure.

BX Bucket edge, Piranha tooth, pro or straight? Pros and Cons of each.

I just installed the standard Bxpanded Piranha Toothbar on my tractor bucket earlier today. Did an initial test fit and everything looked good. It really stiffens up the bottom of the bucket! I then seated the bar firmly onto the bucket edge with a block of oak and a short handled sledge...

For a cord of oak google says: 5000lbs wet (+/- 500lbs) 4000lbs dry (+/- 500lbs) I estimated a 4x3x4 (275 gallon) IBC container cage to be 1/3 cord when filled to top with two stacks of 16-17" wood. That would put the weight for semi-dry somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 lbs (+/- 200lbs)...

I was a little concerned as well. The bucket held up fine for the short distance I moved them. I don't plan on moving them again with that set-up though. I didn't trust it and kept the bucket low and my hand on the lever to drop the load in a hurry if needed. I just got a text about a legit QA...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

Snagged a couple of IBC containers based on pics I had seen somewhere in here using them for wood. (thanks to whoever it was!) They sell them pretty cheap nearby. Seems like a great way to have mobile wood stacks! I pulled out the plastic container and cut an access in one side of the cage for...

The day didn't go so well

I use a magic marker to draw a line on all my various chainsaw bars 16" back from the tip for cutting rounds since it's my preferred cut length. It makes for a quick reference no matter what length bar I happen to be cutting with. Usually I'm pretty close anyway but sometimes my eye is off a bit...

The new used splitter is working well. I got this... Turned into this... No more splitting until fall. Now I need to figure out what to do with this pile. One of the advantages of splitting by hand is the pile is much smaller when I'm ready to call it quits for a bit, LOL.

Kubota B2601 3pt lift adjustment help?

The control under the seat is a drop speed adjustment. If the rake is dropping normally when it starts to drop from fully raised then the drop speed is not the issue. Are you saying that when you drop the arms neither the wheels or tines drop enough to hit the ground? It sounds like they are...

Hardwood pulp? Pretty sure the photo I was referring had pines but it is past my bedtime so who knows, LOL.

Neighbor's tree fell on my property, now ???

You don't have any small pulp wood loggers who would have been happy to come pick those stems up? Seems like easy money for them being right on the road like that.

Neighbor's tree fell on my property, now ???

When I saw the photo showing the damage to the tree as a result of pulling the damaged limb off I was thinking to myself he should have just cut what was on his side of the fence as others mentioned. That hickory was on it's way to being a potentially valuable tree some day. Now the neighbor has...

What to Put on a Gravel Road to Control Dust

What I've used in the past is frowned on these days... I try to wait until after a good long soaking rain to re-grade gravel roads so that the moisture is already in the dirt/crusher run and enough traffic hits it before it dries out. That seems to avoid a lot of dust and the dreaded marbles...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

After many years of splitting wood by hand I decided it was time to get a splitter... I had my heart set on a 3pt hydraulic splitter so I could run off into the woods to split wherever I was felling and bucking without excess moving of wood but I hadn't seen the right deal on a used one. Then I...

Gypsy Moth infestation defoliated the majority of the mature oaks enough years in a row that many didn't come back this spring. Luckily I noticed a large die off of the caterpillars last summer so I'm hoping the cycle is over. I have enough standing dead wood to last me quite awhile. The...

    'Floor' for pull through shed

Foundation prep X2 plus the time & risk to move it? Spreading topsoil

The challenge in that type of situation is deciding on how nuclear you want to go. You can improve things over-all a little at a time over a few years, you can spot fix the worst parts, or you can fix it in one fell swoop by bringing in enough topsoil/clay/etc to get a proper base for the grass...

    Adjusting Wheel WIdth?

When faced with how to pull and install a 600+ lb wheel single handedly I reached for my ATV/Motorcycle jack and two straps. It worked perfectly! Backed the whole wheel out from the tractor and rolled it right back into place onto the wheel alignment studs after I got the rear remotes...

    Stupidity fixed, hopefully...

I did this on my diesel tractor once. I replaced the fuel filter twice but fuel flow kept getting stopped up in the tank itself. I reverse blew the line from the filter to the tank a couple of times which would work for a week or two and the plug again. I finally broke down and used a shop vac...

    Unbelievable deal

I tend to think along those lines at times but I'm naturally adverse to loans and like to sleep at night so I let those thoughts pass. Money pulled from the market even as late as early March this year to score a large cash discount on a tractor would be having ones cake and eating it too about...

    Unbelievable deal

This is what I suspected would be the case. Heavy discount for cash or "free" Financing. Bobcat has been doing basically the same thing but with 84 months financing as I recall. In Bobcats case they are throwing in a "free" FEL on cash deals which is the way I went with mine. It all works out...

What did you buy this week?

I got a wire cage and some cheap orange plastic ammo cans to store/carry stuff on the new tractor. I was always tossing stuff into the bucket when heading off into the woods on my last tractor and then dumping the contents onto the ground or shoving the bucket & contents into a pile of dirt...

    Thoughts on Bobcat??

I recently decided it was time for a new tractor. Test rode a Bobcat CT2035 MST and a Kubota 3901-DT which was the size range I was shopping for (35-40hp) at the same local dealer. The Kubota was nice and had a shuttle shift for back and forth loader work and the loader hydraulics were a bit...
