PTO operating while off the tractor

Back in the eighties I had an Uncle who did some repairs to his round baler. The next morning he took it out to the field to start baling straw. after a few minutes he wanted to check everything was working and the belts were running straight, the only way was to leave it running and walk around...

Parents with dementia, how dealing with that has gone.

Just an update on my friend who had "Frontotemporal dementia (FTD)". He actually passed away shortly after I posed (god must read TBN). The funeral was quite the experience, every emotion from sad he is gone to happy it has ended to embarrassed you were happy it ended to bitterness it happened...

    Tips on loading dead tractor

I would just run the winch cable under the bucket and then attach to the tractor frame as high as possible. As you start to pull the cable will want to go straight which will put up pressure on the loader bucket, open the loader valve, when it gets as high as possible release the valve and let...

    What are Messick's Smoking

Normally as a retired trucker I would say if you don't like the delivery charge, go pick it up. But google map says 33 hrs and 2175 miles one way, so $250.00 looks like a heck of a deal. kinda curious what Coleman would charge to send it to PA, and what Messick's would charge to send it to MO? g

    Any mathmeticians here

I tend to consider this a right angle triangle problem, rather then a circle. If you draw a line down the center it will be 90 ft from each side. If you put a spigot at 35 ft up the side line. You will have a right angle triangle, side A is 90 ft, side B is 35 ft, and the Hypotenuse C will be...

    Safest Payment Method?

hmm... just an observation but in 4 pages no one has mentioned crypto (of any flavor)?? I would think 15 -16 ounces of gold would get you in the ball park also. g

Parents with dementia, how dealing with that has gone.

We have a friend that we have known for 30+ years. In his early 60s he started missing things here and there so he retired. Maybe 5 years later his wife was a little concerned so she insisted their 3 daughters and their families come home for Christmas. The first 2 families were fine but when...

Parents with dementia, how dealing with that has gone.

From what I have been told the name Dementia is kind of a group name for several different diseases. 50 years ago Dr.s didn't know the difference so it was called Dementia. Some are hereditary some are not. In my mothers case memory is not really an issue, mainly because she on her own realized...

    Buying into the stock market

Do Americans have what in Canada we call "Direct Investing" accounts? Basically a website usually run by your bank that replaces brokers. If you buy a stock you pay a fee, but mutual funds are free. I have a list of most funds sold in Canada or the US so I pick what I want, I don't pay a...

    Internet Options for my Mom

My biggest complaint with the industry is that different manufacturers use different terminology for the same thing, a WIFI Access point and a WIFI Router in Bridge mode and a WIFI Router in Access mode are all virtually the same thing. That being said your plan should work with the possible...

Disk discussion - what is adequate, what is too much?

Thanks for clarifying. I'm going to have to stick with my original thought. Forget the disk buy a 6 ft tiller. It would be different if you were doing 20 acre fields, a 8 ft disk would be faster but 4 or 5 small plots under an acre each the tiller is just so much more maneuverable. Gary

Disk discussion - what is adequate, what is too much?

What is the actual dimensions of this plot? My guess is 30 ft X 180 ft based on the size of your tractor. Do you have any other parcels to work? What crop are you growing or more important how much trash has to get worked in after the crop is done? I have a 5 ft disk for my 30 hp Montana -...

Disk discussion - what is adequate, what is too much?

Two things I have learned about disks, they work best at about 5 mph, and when you are working freshly turned sod your first trip with a disk should be at right angles to the sod strips. In the original pic of the plot I don't see either happening with a pull disk. A 3 point disk maybe with a...

Parents with dementia, how dealing with that has gone.

Just a couple of questions/comments. Is the nursing home where he lives / parks the car aware that the car is not insured and the gentleman who drives it is not licensed? Would they not be somewhat liable in the event of an accident? Would they tell you to get the car gone? I think I read where...

Share Pics of People Hauling or Towing Something Wrong

The term missing in this conversation is "Pony Trailer” A Pony Trailer has one or more axles in one group, usually near the centre of the trailer. It can be pulled by just about anything equipped with a hitch. A Full Trailer has two or more axles in two groups one at each end of the trailer...

Trying to attach a Massey-Fergus Model L Post Auger to compact tractor

Which leads to the next question. The owner hasn't used it in 30 yrs, will it attach to his tractor?

Trying to attach a Massey-Fergus Model L Post Auger to compact tractor

My other thought was to extend the length of your arms. Something like a foot of square tube, slide it over your arm bolt it solid and then drill a hole at the other end to go over the pins on the auger. your arms would be longer so they lift higher and give a better angle to the beam to lift...

Trying to attach a Massey-Fergus Model L Post Auger to compact tractor

You could try dropping the beam down to the lower hole on your tractor. I think there is a hole 2-3 inches lower but I can't see on your pic - shadows on black paint. 2 inches on the tractor end would probably make 6 inches higher on the drill end. The only other thing I might try would be...

    Farmtrac 300DTC Broken F-R Lever

I have a Montana 3040. Same tractor made by LS for Montana. A couple years ago I broke the same shaft in the same place. Ordered the part and started reading the service manual. When rebuilding the transmission the first part into the empty case is this shaft and the lever it is connected too...

First time owner Montana 3840, general questions/maintenance questions

I have a 3040 with is the same tractor with less hp. The front axle uses 80w90 gear oil and everything else uses any generic Hydraulic / Trans fluid. I use Spirax (Shell) S4 TXM Tractor Transmission & Hydraulic Oil but have used others also. The only other thing I can think of is check the...

OK, I don't know what I'm doing or how to hook up this 1518

I would guess that there are threads on the inside of #29 that when you use their pin it gets sucked up to the bottom of your draw bar. I would think it would be a lot quieter then just a plain clevis.

I just googled parts for that cutter on JD and yes it looks like it is upside down.

OK, I don't know what I'm doing or how to hook up this 1518

The only other guess I had is that the flanges are part of the bushing and if they are then clamped onto the draw bar to stop the bushings from turning on the pin. The clevis part of the hitch would then rotate on the outside of the bushing rather then on the pin inside. That would probably be...

OK, I don't know what I'm doing or how to hook up this 1518

My guess is that the flanges are there to bind if you turn too sharp. There might even be a special pin (Bolt) to use to draw the flanges together so your draw bar can't slip between them. Theory being if you turn to sharp the tires on the mower will slide sideways. Will this work or will it...

6v/12v dual system and maintaining batteries with a solar panel question

I am 99% sure that that tractor is 12 volt everywhere except the 2 - 6 volt batteries in series to make 12 volt (like the pic above). Which makes fixing lights much easier. If the generator has been running 12 volt and charging the two 6 volt batteries for the last 60 yrs I can't see how a 12...

    PTO Wobble

I think what you are seeing in the video is the u joints working as they should. If you had them level - as in the auger down they would be fine. It looks to me that the u joints are close to the maximum angle when you are in the up position. g
