    Stove Pipe

Just to echo some of what others have said, chimney pipe is stupid expensive. Last year, I installed a wood stove in our 1900 sq ft basement b/c my son was living there at the time and the propane heater was costing us $600/ month to heat it. My son joined the Army halfway through the project...

    Who rides motorcycles?

My friend had a KLX300 (with the bigger piston kit) and a CRF250 at different times and I rode both a good bit. Both are great bikes, but you are 100% correct that the Honda has better aftermarket support. We remapped the FI on the CRF and it really woke it up while maintaining reliability.

Yes, yes you are. In 9 days I hit my 20 year mark on TBN. My posts per day are a little less than .0423. I do way more reading than I do posting.

Strange things found in the forest

I noticed on the first page of this thread an article talking about abandoned train engines in the woods. Here in the Rockies, we have the caboose. I haven't gone to check it out, but a motorcycling buddy told me the story. They were riding motorcycles way back in the mountains, through thick...

What current member has been with TBN the longest?

I feel like a young buck compared to some of you old farts. Like someone earlier mentioned, I joined when we moved onto property for the first time and was active learning and participating. Then 11 years later we had to move back to the city. Nine years later and we are back on property.

    Shooting range

These are maximum ranges, not ranges at which the bullet can penetrate a house and/or kill someone. Especially the pistol rounds.
  10. C

    Shooting range

That is not the same thing. In the article you quoted, the guy shot into the air. The bullet will achieve terminal velocity coming back down which is enough to kill someone. Shooting horizontally the bullet begins to lose velocity the moment it leaves the barrel.

    Skid Steer Mower Width

If you put it in float, then it shouldn't put too much pressure on it - I think, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Flail mowers are great for grass and thin branches. Not so much once you get above about 2-3".

Milwaukee Grease Gun & grease question?

I have carpal tunnel, so too much use of the manual grease gun puts my hand to sleep. But I do hear ya on the exercise.

    how small is too small?

Pretty much what Hersheyfarm said. If you have the money and want it, buy it. I bought a skid steer b/c I wanted one. Didn't even have property or a reason to buy one. I kept it at a friend's house until I eventually bought some property. Now, it's invaluable. I almost bought a mini-ex at...

    Skid steer back-up camera

I just ordered the backup camera as I already destroyed a couple of non-essential things the previous owner of our new house left. I'm 5'8" and when I try to look out the back of the skid steer I don't see anything close behind me. I may have to borrow the Tide bottle idea.

Steel shooting target for rifles from retired 3-point scraper blade.

I've read the warning labels on my AR500 targets, which are the same warnings as yours. That being said, I've shot my targets w/ .223, 5.56, and 7.62x39 w/i 50 yards and I've yet to dimple my targets. Mine are always hung on chains, so ricochets are directed down.

    Self powered rotary cutters.

I bought mine used and most have my problems are related to the previous owner doing horrible maintenance and storing it outdoors. I've only had one thing break on it, which was the cable that locks the rear wheels together.

    Skid steer back-up camera

I plan to install an LED lightbar on the top of my skid steer and probably an LED flood light on the rear. That will hopefully be enough light.

95 Horsepower Kubota tracked skid steer with 7 foot mower

Rental rates vary by area, but look on Craigs list or facebook market place and you'll see what people rent out their machines for. Around here it varies btwn $175 and $350 per day - depends on the machine and the attachments that come with it.

    Skid steer back-up camera

How has the backup cam worked out? I have a big ol' Case skid steer w/ the same visibility problem. I previously would put my .410 in a scabbard on the tractor, but haven't thought about how best to carry my Sig in the skid steer. @Jframe

    Self powered rotary cutters.

Why is that? I have a DR walk behind and it has done everything I needed it to do. It has made short work of Russian Olive trees 2-3" in diameter. I've been happy w/ it, but I'd be interested in knowing what you dislike about it.

At what age of skid steer do parts become hard to find?

Good info on which companies use DPF. I'm looking at about a 4 hour drive to get a machine no matter what. Not a lot goes on the market around me, and when it does, it gets snapped up quickly. Good luck with your search. I have my eye on a couple machines, but I have to get a trailer first.

At what age of skid steer do parts become hard to find?

In your neck of the woods, you shouldn't have a problem finding one. I'm watching equipment trader and machinery trader at least weekly and there appear to be more machines available back east than there are around here. Since making this thread, I've been able to talk to a couple of CAT...

Questions about purchasing a skid steer

Correct, under 75 hp no DPF or DEF. In my area (Western CO), for $20k I can get mid-sized wheeled machines with between 900 and 2500 hours. For $30k, I can get a low hours (e.g., 500 hrs) machine w/ a cab and heat/ac. All these machines are 10-20 years old. I'm torn, b/c although the machines...

Questions about purchasing a skid steer

@Lineman North Florida I'm a little late to the party, but I'll address some of your questions that didn't get answered. I've been researching this topic for a number of months and am currently looking to buy a skid steer myself. The following is what I have pieced together by reading a lot...

At what age of skid steer do parts become hard to find?

Are any brands particularly better at keeping parts available for older machines? I'm looking at an '03 Case 40xt, a JD 250 (not sure on the year, maybe 2000), a '00 Daewoo 1760xl, and an '05 Bobcat S185.

Ford 6.0 diesel; the good, the bad, the ugly?

The 6.0s have a horrible reputation and were honestly not great from the factory, but can be "bulletproofed", though it's costly to do so. My son just bought an '05 F350 w/ a bulletproofed 6.0. The previous owner put $7k into it to bulletproof it. It runs and tows amazingly well. I have an...

At what age of skid steer do parts become hard to find?

I plan to buy a skid steer to use in my side business (handyman and brush cutting (a lot of ditches)). If things continue the way they have been, my side business will surpass my day job. I have a budget of roughly $20k. In my area, in this price range ($12k-$20k), I'm looking at skid steers...

Which Stick Welder for a New Welder?

If it looks too long to read, just skip to the part by the asterisks (*). LOL. I just started learning to weld a month or so back - I've wanted to for a long time, but finally made it a priority. A friend loaned me his 110v mig to play with. I'm ready to buy my own, but wish to...

Which to buy? Used NH/JD/Kubota vs. New Chinese?

we tripled our acreage and i guess my old long was not to excited to maintain it and he gave up the ghost literally 10 seconds after i unloaded it from the trailer. so now i'm in the market for a newer tractor. i've been looking for quite a while and am now ready, almost, to pull the trigger...

Engine will not turn over. Where to start?

i have an old (circa 1980) long 1563 34hp tractor. a weekend or two ago, we moved it, by trailer, from our old house to our new house. when i unloaded it from the trailer, it started and ran fine, i backed it down off the trailer and parked it and left it idling and went to thank my friend for...

    Are you off the Grid?

Even before we bought our property (and spent a cold night w/o power and subsequently heat), I wanted to be able to generate my own electricity and eventually get off of the (electric company power) grid. I think it has to do with being self sufficient and the challenge of it. I am thinking...
