On the PT "mini-hoe", I call excavator (because mine is not mini nor a backhoe) you dig with it by putting the bucket down where you want the hole, adjust the cutting angle and then back up the tractor to cut into the earth. The curl function (uncurl/dump) does not have enough power to pull the...
Yes, I was up half the night thinking about this. We should probably start a new thread on the need for and adding a circuit relief. I think they are mostly needed in 2 circuits, the bucket curl (aux circuit) and the attachment curl back (Z bar piston). The aux circuit bucket curl is needed...
I don't get that. When you use a loader bucket and drive into a material pile or virgin earth, then curl the bucket back to lift and fill the bucket as your driving in, I stall out the hydraulics (relief valve opens). To me that puts as much stress on everything. When Leverage comes into the...
I searched and couldn't find any info, any chance you saved the post on operators that damaged their arms while using a front excavator (backhoe) attachment? I use Titan brand hoes on my tractors which is larger and more elaborate then the PT model and haven't noticed any damage yet. I use...
That is a tough decision. I was always aggravated by the errors in the specs on the machines. For example the weight between the two (425-1387 and 422-1344) is 43 lbs different! Yet the 425 is supposed to have a 8" longer wheel base (but the overall length is only 6" difference). So the 43...
Inspect the linkage going from the handle to the valve spools. If it is worn it may not be pushing the spool in to the float position fully and maybe jamming up when going into the raise position. Also look for rust, loose parts, foreign material, etc.
The whole thing could have been caused by the starter staying "on" or if it stuck engaged. Check it out good before you burn up a new starter. Did the ignition switch stick in start position? Is there a relay that got stuck in start? Or just the starter itself? If the starter remained...
In my opinion, you don't need it, it is paid for, so sell it as is and cut your looses. Parts have gotten very expensive. If you try to fix, you may be into it for thousands and a lot of labor. Will you recoup the cost? Who knows? If you are looking for a project, dive in and have fun. If...
I don't think you can buy an air (or oil) cooled diesel anymore. So to install a late model diesel in a PT, you need to reengineer for a radiator liquid cooling system. So making if longer or higher, either way will cause its own problems.
RPMs don't matter on a new product, they would just...
I would think he was selling because it didn't live up to his expectations. The articulation might work ok on a level driveway, but take on uneven terrain and there may be a lot of interference between cab and engine compartment. The cab may make it somewhat unstable on side hills depending on...
I looked at the pictures and my machines and with mine, the seat rubs the front of the hood on extreme rough ground. I think they robbed a lot of seat travel/leg room for the cab clearance.
Having both traditional tractors along with Power Tracs, the design of the PT makes it more likely to ride up over the bucket mostly because the PTs are very light on the front tires. Unlike normal tractors with the engine in the front, a PT has a rear engine and doesn't need counter weights in...
Most people do not use float for loading material into the bucket. Tip the bucket slightly down with some down pressure, drive forward, as soon as the cutting edge digs in, tip the bucket back slightly more toward a level bucket. As it digs in more you lift it slightly to get weight on the...
I bent the pedal on the reverse side, from a V shape to more flat on the left. It helped limit overall reverse speed, but still spins the front tires from a quick rise in torque. Maybe someday I will take the time to decrease the orfice for the line restriction.
Congrats! Take in the "new". It happens only a few time in life.
I think what you are experiencing with the treadle control is the size of the restrictors in the lines for the tram pump. (I believe for ease of inventory, PT stocks/uses one part for all sizes of tractors if they can get away...
I hang a magnet from the hyd tank filler cap down below the oil level, but not on the bottom. My machine requires a 50 hr filter change so I have to check top off oil level and I clean the magnet. Here is what the towel looks like (pic attached). You can decide if it is worth the trouble on...
If you insist on getting one, wouldn't a garden rototiller set at minimal pentation do the same thing?(and you could use in garden too) Then you could grade the driveway with box blade.
I have found that over the years there are a lot of 3pt attachments that I wanted to use on my Power Tracs. I made a PT to Skid Steer adapter, which is one of the most used accessories I have and from there I bought a Skid steer to 3pt adapter. Gets a tad bulky (and you could just weld your...
I was reading through the parts interchange post and wanted to comment on the filter discussion in a new post so as to not clutter up the interchange post. I was employed by a mining company with deep pockets that spent a lot on employee education. Maybe it was propaganda? I have attached some...
Just trying to help the guy decide what to do. You have to take into account the labor cost and seals to rebuild the pump. If its a tram it is pretty complicated. If the cost is anywhere near a new pump, I would try a field repair and if it doesnt last, but a new one and have the old for a...
I would cut a new love-joy in 1/2 to enable you to clamp it to the shaft with a HD muffler clamp (or cable clamp). Before you do you use the magic key fix or liquid metal or Loctite. Cut the split 90 deg away from key so it compresses the key in the slot. If that doesn't work long enough...
Yes Terry will be your best bet.
If you look on line to explain how a variable displacement pump works, it may give you some insight when discussing it. Wild guess on my part is that one of the pistons is not in sequence causing the weak movement and noise and you will need to send your pump...
Might be low temp related. One question, did you change the oil in the front axle at the recommended intervals? A lot of people have the original oil, along with all break in contamination, still flowing through the system.
1st check the pressures at the cylinders. Hydraulic control valves can have circuit reliefs, meaning along with a main relief valve that will have control over everything, a circuit relief only controls that circuit. So if either relief valve is out of adjustment, you will have poor...
I have a Kubota powered Hustler Excell that starts without the charge pump or any other spinning.
The later model Power tracs have pilot control for the drive system.
I am just trying to learn here. Why do you think the BX1850 trans filter is on the suction side? The parts diagram shows one filter integral with the transaxle and without a internal flow diagram, it most likely is filtering returning oil (it is easy to push unlimitedly through filter media...
Spin on suction filter for one, which is not a typical arrangement and requires adherence to the oil specs and service interval of 50 hours for a filter change.
IMPORTANT, people with the hydroback cable to control fwd/rev on the Powertrac must make sure the connections throughout the control "chain" are in good condition. Especially the arm pined to the hydrostatic pump. If the pin was partially sheared, it would limit the travel from the foot...
Just and FYI, if the engine RPMs are too low for the driveline load, they all make a hydraulic wine noise from the pump that gets louder the more you push the treadle pedal down.
Just wondering what everyone (that has the heaters) uses for a time to energize the heater on a glow cycle? Yesterday I needed to use 2 tractors it was 30 degs. One started easily after a 10 sec glow. The other tractor which has the newer model engine, but has been sitting for a month, had a...
The throttles appear to be on the inexpensive side. I have to do mine also and have put it off cause it still works most of the time. I don't like to run at full throttle, and the throttle holds better at midrange RPM unless I hit with hand as I steer.
I was wondering if you could sneak a...
I positioned the valve so I could reuse 2 of the original hoses and had the other 4 hoses made locally. Install the quick connects in the best position on the loader arms as you will use them the most. I don't think I have since disconnected the quick change attachment hoses. But you still...
I used this handle, because I also use a 4th valve (thumb button in 3rd picture) to control log grapple rotation. And I like a trigger switch for most of my attachments as it comes naturally and can find it without looking at control. If you go this route you will have to cut and thread the...
That valve you show has two elect solenoids. I used this one pictured here, notice in the hyd schmatic on their site, the normal position of the valve (with no elect signal) just allows flow from you main cont valve straight through to the original cylinder. Then when you actuate the valve, it...
I put valves in 3 of my PT's and a Kubota. Get a valve that exceeds the max flow, I think the smallest available is 13 GPMs which is more then enough.
I used the lower/raise circuit because as I lower the grapple onto the pile/log/etc I can, as I hydraulically lower the grapple, I can squeeze...
Did you bleed air out after the oil change? When in reverse/stalled and you hear the loud noise from hydraulics, is the engine at high RPM and no load or heavy load?
The filter is under pressure from the supply pump (it is easier to filter a liquid under pressure than trying to move it through filter media using a vacuum), that is why it "spews" when it finds an opening.
You have nothing to loose by trying to tighten the existing filter, if you don't, my...
The Deutz can produce a lot of vibration and more at some RPMs, so depending on your style of operating the machine, it may see more vibrations then others (the vibrations can also move around on the machine as vibration RPM changes). You need to clean and find where the leak is. Hose clamp...
Did you install a intake glow plug(s)? Think about wiring it for preheat, maybe to the left (accessory position). Just make sure it goes dead (no voltage to glow plug) in the run position.
That started with the paint, like the tractor guys that take a Farmall and paint it green and yellow like a John Deere. It never looks right to me.
Since this has gone this far, I would continue it with labels and decals, call it a tribute to CAT.
ANY steel is not good. Before you disregard the idea, hang a good magnet in the hyd tank (it doesn't have to be at the bottom, the flow will bring steel to it) and check it after 50 hours. If when you wipe it off on a paper towel, it doesn't leave a black residue, you have a fantastic...
I just bought the tractor and don't have a manual. I figured that the valve adj was neglected and wanted to get it done. Not sure if I will keep the tractor or not. Thanks for clearing that up on the correct engine temp for the .008 clearance adj.
I did look it up and could find nothing complete. What I found listed .008 clearance but let it open as to what temp the engine should be at. I guess John Deere must not know what Yanmar required and left it out.
I will probably adjust to -008 hot, as it will only increase when cold. Can't...
I just bought a 850 4x4 (later model) tractor and would like to check the valve adjustment. Can anyone let me know the adjustment procedure? I read .008 each but no mention of engine hot or cold. Some list .008 intake and .006 exhaust which to me is backward.
Anyone help on this? S/N 24406
Thanks for all the responses. So much for standardization as all my other tractors the flower knob was rate of drop. Now I know it is the hard to get to roll pin!
Can anyone shed some light on what the hyd control under the seat is for on a John Deer 850? It is the one with a rollpin in a shaft, looks to adj flow or???
When you say it "may be" better, doesn't that mean it may not be better too?
The "few better lubricants" that you found, what did you find about them that makes them better?
What did you find with the factory specified lubricant that makes it not as good (as the new lubes you found)?
I usually put the pails in my truck or the Gator and drive around with them for awhile, just incase any additives settled out, I want them back in suspension.
Interesting that you have the new pilot controlled fwd/rev, and yet your wheel motors are bolted on. All mine are a welded box with a hyd motor in it. (by memory, as I haven had to work on them yet)
Since your wheel motor brackets are bolt on, you must have a mechanical linkage tram with a cable going back to the hydro drive pump (vs pilot controls). I must emphasize how important all these connecting parts are, including the arm pined to the hydro pump shaft, as in the links of a chain...
If anyone feels like spending money, Bailey's has a nice control handle with 3 switches.
https://www.baileyhydraulics.com/search.php?search_query=Single+Momentary+Trigger+SU+Handle+with+2+Momentary+Buttons
Just my opinion, I would guess $1000, tops $2000 if someone really wanted it, . The PT418 is not made anymore (the PT180 is different). It looks to have "T" handles on the loader pins which to me indicate it has pin-on attachments (currently they have quick attach for an attachment change that...
I was thinking about doing the same. I first converted the tractor to a single lever bucket control, that way your hand never leaves the handle and I have mine on the hoist up/down cause that is the way the grapple will move (up/down or forward/back) and with one lever, set up that way, you can...
I don't know if it has been mentioned, but hydraulic leaks can be dangerous. A stream of oil not easily visible, under the right conditions, can penetrate your skin and cause extreme problems! Be careful
It makes a lot of sense placing the heavy load over the larger rear tires.
This "loader" actually has a hyd piston that lifts it higher then the 3p could ever lift it.
The problem is that piece that is on the threads and if there is any or enough for a new (brass) plug to seal.
They look to me like pipe thread which are tapered threads which get tighter as you turn it in.
For anyone else new to this and changing the oil, you have to use two wrenches and support the elbow when applying torque to the cap.
For your repair you may try a brass pipe plug (not sure of size but I think it is 3/8, but the same size as the part you have in your hand). You want brass...
Just an FYI, the Power tracs have an unusually low hour change interval for the hydraulic filter (at least in my opinion). They mandate a 50 hour filter change. With the used machines I have seen, it is often neglected. (If you worked it 40 hours a week, that would require a hyd oil filter...
I would call PT and get the correct locations for each O ring. And since you had internal leakage in the cylinder, the one under the nut, if it leaked, would cause... a leak?
You may want to try R14 tires, they are like a ag tread and turf tread combined in one.
Be careful when shopping ATV tires, they might not hold the weight.
Well they are new enough to have the quick attach. The next improvement that I like is the hydraulic tram vs the old cable. If you have the cable make double sure it is in good condition as there is no brakes. The treadle pedal is your only control to stop the machine.
PT has a draft feature that starts with the 1430 and up, it loads the front tires. You may want to consider liquid ballast in your front tires and maybe iron weights in combination to overcome the light front end when in float.
That is an issue with the Z bar linkage. I copied the angle on a PT bucket for my adapter and in general all the attachments work OK. It would be nice if they had a greater degree of bucket movement. It is worse if you have to dump into a screening plant, that is why I bought a 4 in 1 bucket.
Keep in mind, when connecting to the SSQA attachment, you will need to tilt forward and go lower then said attachment. So with that in mind, you dont want the PT plate lower then the SSQA plate as it may be digging into the ground.
I wanted to keep the top link attachment point on my conversion, and I did, until a hose got caught between those two ears and the PT top link when curled back.
Pay close attention to the "neutral" angle that you will engineer as your starting point. I duplicated the angle PT had on a grapple...
Roger having to remember which forum your on before you confuse people with good advise that has nothing to do with the tractor in the discussion.
I had no idea what they were either, then I bought their cheapest/smallest model and found out how much better the design was over conventional...
Power Trac tractors are a more modern design then 3pt hitch tractors as the implements go on the front of the machine where the operator can easily control the implement without turning backward. The larger machines (used to be all the diesel models) have a electric switch on the dash and a...
Yes you have a lot of great extra battery and electric improvements. My tractor is all stock.
Maybe the brushes in you starter motor are worn? When it is out it is easy to look for your high torque version.
Sorry, I misunderstood his statement on putting the PT in tow mode to assist with starting and thought we were only talking about that one hydraulic circuit.
I believe it just puts the wheel motor side of the drive circuit in a open loop.
When starting, the pump will still be rotating. No oil should move if tram is in neutral.
As far as your single stick control lever, the float function is in the valve. Are you changing out the complete valve? You only need the linkage and stick, I recently made one and it works ok.
The float function will need the spool push in the valve deep and against a spring. You would need...
Maybe due to a new gas or diesel mixture for emissions. Who knows what the latest chemical concoction is? Maybe there was a sale on benzene, toluene or xylene.
I use a product called Opti lube to remove any water from my diesel fuel. You may want to look into a fuel additive, it may have a side benefit of preventing rust?
Comment on #2. The remote valve I believe is controlled by a magnet. If there is a bad connection in the circuit (loose corroded connection or switch contacts) and it caused low voltage at the magnet, it would work as you described. Test voltage at the magnet with switch on and hot. It...
A comment for #3, there is linkage between the control lever and the spool. Could it be possible that your linkage was/is adjusted on the short side and the control lever cannot push the spool completely into the float position?
This may sound strange, but get a long screwdriver and hold the metal tip to the cylinder at the center of the wide part (black area). Put your ear down to the screwdriver handle (touching your ear) and have someone turn the wheel. With some experience you could hear if the cylinder is...
To tell you the truth, I am not really sure. When I start it, no oil pressure and the alarm that I hear well, then it stars at low idle and the alarm silences after the pressure builds (almost instantly) clearly heard through the ear protection. After the PTO is actuated and the RPMS are...
On that note, my 018 Power Trac with the Subaru Engine I installed a cheap sonic alarm to the factory N/C oil pressure switch. That way if it starves for oil, a high pitch alarm will actuate.
Which I think is better the the Deutz and a oil PSI gauge that I may not notice, especially on severe...
I am sure someone will chime in that has a 425. Just wanted to let you know that on my 1430, the next size up machine, I routinely go to the end of my clinometer at 25 deg while lifting/dragging logs which exacerbates the issue.
I find the uphill tires will loose traction when the limit gets close.
If you look at my picture of the adapter (like the one on sale) I bought years ago, you will see the angle of the PT plate to the SSQA. I think it was 30 deg, but you must check it. I got it from a PT bucket, on level ground, and the angle they had for the quick attach.
The good part about...
Your pictures are all showing rear mount equipment that looks to me like a farm application for hay.
This post is for a different type of machine that is low profile for uneven ground where the implements all mount in front of the operator and are hydraulically driven. They have their own style...
The only PT quick connects that interchange between machines are the 422/425.
the 1445 will be a lot larger then the 1430, the difficult part will be to determine if you could still make it work with little modification. Obviously anything is possible.
With the 1430 adaption, I just cleaned the...
Use your own judgement on if this is a good value, but this is the adapter I bought to convert my PT1430 to skid steer (SSQA). The 1430 plate somewhat fits in the framework without much modification. Later after using, I cut the 3pth hitch top attachment off because when curled back it would...
I use my PT rotary for just cutting grass and with sharp blades it does well. For large brush I picked up a Rut Mfg for the 1460 and it takes down 4" Mountain Laurel (I raise it over and lower it down mulching it better then just cutting at ground level and driving over it). I have always been...
I may be wrong and others can chime in, but on my PT cutting decks (3), the blades do not extend beyond the deck/cover. This tells me you have the wrong blades. The noise may be the blades hitting your deck.
If your picture reposted below is just an illusion and the blades dont stick out, check...
For the wrenches, I would suggest going to a place like Harbor Freight and buy a cheap set of wrenches and cut them in 1/2 or 1/3 to allow you to get into tight spaces. I would also buy what I call crows foot (they are open end wrench type tools with either 3/8 or 1/2 drive).
If your blades are...
Sorry to hear about your repeated WM failures. I added a magnetic temp gauge to my main control valve and stop using the machine if the temp gets to high. With the wheel motors in a dedicated circuit, the oil temps may be even higher then the hyd reservoir (lift, steer circuits). There has to...
If you are 100% sure you have good power and good ground and no magnetic field, the magnet (like a long light bulb filament) is burnt out. Some (most) are just a coil and can be replaced fairly easy.
You should not have a scenario where you have to open the intake ductwork to lift the hood. Every time you do, some amount of dirt inevitably will enter the engine.
IMHO Duetz sold the engine with a filter like on the 1445/1460 but PT didn't have space in the chassis for the nicer filter housing, so they made a very simple one, initially with the can cover, then just an open filter with the precleaner sponge. Deutz has a high reputation for quality and...
I bought my new 1430 from PT, it was in the last bunce of diesels just before they went to the gas engine. My old one I picked up used with numerous attachments with 1000 hours. The old one has the can around the filter element. Don't know why they changed to an open filter. I think the...
The older 1430 I have used a metal shield around the filter media, the newer one has open media. I don't have the clogging issue with either, so can't say if it is a cheap fix or not.
You should be able to find a generic filter. In the old days you could just bring your used filter into the parts store and they would measure it up and give you options or a direct replacement.
When you ID a suitable replacement, buy a quality brand like Fleetguard etc.
I think PT took off...
I believe if you can easily get to the valve solenoid, the cylinder shaped portion with wires going into it will be a strong magnet when the PTO switch is actuated. So hold a small wrench close, flip the PTO switch on and you should feel a slight attraction between the wrench and that electro...
disconnect mower hoses, flip switch, does engine rpm drop and hoses tense up? If not, look for loose elect connections, blown fuses etc? Use test light on PTo switch, does it have power, is it sending power out when switched?
That looks real nice. Unfortunately for me I would snap off that down pipe and probably bend the heat shield. The Power Tracs are made so strong I don't worry much about hitting rocks and sadly even trees. Back up by braille method.
That pic you showed of the missing fitting, I believe is just a machining "center hole" when the pin was turned on a lath before it was welded in and is not threaded and doesn't need to be. Does that pin go across from one loader arm to the other with the Z-bar linkage pivoting on it?
If so...
The wheel motors are in fabricated "boxes" on the low profile machines I have seen. Fabricate new extended motor boxes to move the wheels wider apart without any additional stress. Fill the tires with ballast to lower center of gravity.
I think the Z-bar repair looks good if no impact shock...
I could never understand how those things work and why they don't just raise the front of the tractor up.
But I would think the larger the tractor the better. The PT tractors do not have a lot of weight on the front (unlike farm tractors with the engine).
With your calculations, I would cut the...
The 24 series machines do not have a low center of gravity, only the 14 series.
Look at pics of the 425, 1430 through 1460 and you may notice the engine is low and between the wheels. On the 2425 the engine is above the wheels with the operator sitting on top of that, and the loader arms are...
I use mine on the same type of terrain in New England. The Power trac 1430 and 1460 type are the best made for side hills and stability. I have a Ryan's rotating log grapple and pull trees on side hills with the arms raised and haven't tipped it yet, thank God!
Reg, can you be more specific on what you mean by "blown"? These Deutz have timing belts that drive the cam and if the belt breaks, the valves contact the pistons. There is a good chance that can be fairly easily repaired in the machine.
I have an older 1430 with over 1,000 hours on it and...
I would check the relief valve for that circuit/spool. Just get a 3 to 4k lb gauge with a -4 JIC male fitting and install it on a hose that goes to the tilt cylinder and momentarily dead head it (best with hot hyd oil).
On the repair, why not get a hardened steel pin that can go from side to...
I have a similar PT mower on my 1430. The lift section is in the forward holes and it will still tilt forward. Some times when I need the front up, I take out one set of the travel stop bolts and tilt the plate forward and put the bolts back in. This allow me to tip the front of the deck up...
No bait used, dont want to attract them into your place. Once the first mouse goes in (to Cristen it), it leaves a trail the others follow. And it is not humane, only the strongest survive. A cage match.
Mice are very inquisitive and look through all the small passages, that is how they get...
I am not sure I know what you mean. The mower has a large roller that goes from the left side to the right side. You adjust the height of the cutters by tipping back or rolling forward. It is about 4" in dia and although noise when hitting rocks, it floats over stuff pretty well. Most of the...
The Titan flail came as shown with hydraulic drive (I pulled the motor off and it has a 1 3/8" 6spline motor and coupler).
It is not as powerful or effective as a rotary cutter (and with cast scoop knives it cuts grass poorly). But the rotor with cast knives is just above the roller and only a...
They are pricey but the Ryan's rotating log grapple is the best I have used. It allows you to approach the pile in any direction (instead of only at right angles). I use it on both the 1430 and 1460 depending on the anticipated weight. You can also carry very long/wide objects down narrow...
Ditch witch stump grinder on 1430 via the adapter. It works great as it moves right and left using its own hydraulics you don't have to move the tractor.
1460 adapter, same story. This was heavy to start with. For some reason they made it about 6" wider then it needs to be. I plan to someday cut off the excess but then will need to reweld up the holes in the box tubing.
My version of a 1430 adapter made out of a ebay 3pt to SSQA. I had to cut the top portion off as it would pinch hoses on curl back. I matched the angle "neutral position" of the PT grapple bucket I bought with the machine
Build as big as you can afford. If like me, it will fill up over the years with jacks, drill press, welders, lathe, Bridgeport etc. Stuff you never thought you needed. Make at least one part that you can heat, with the rest storage. The doors should be as high too. Think of the things you...
Back when they first computerized truck engines, they found that the older mechanical diesels produce soot of a larger size that allowed a person's lungs to self-clean, where the new electronic diesels produced soot in a Nano size that was too small for human lungs to cleanout. The larger size...
If you look at the construction of the dash (or lack of it) on the new 1430 gas machine, they are using the 425- steering column. A diesel machine has a wide dash with instruments.
Just things to consider if anyone wanted to repower one.
The Kubota shifts smoothly. I just keep thinking about when I was 16 and went from neutral to drive on my car to spin the tires and half expect the tractor to do the same. I finally feel comfortable doing it at low RPM, I will work up to the 540 eventually. Good to know it is a normal operation.
So if your using a rotary cutter (bush hog), with the engine RPM up to the 540 PTO speed, it is still safe to fwd/rev without the clutch pedal?(repeatedly, for hours, all day etc) Has anyone done this for a substantial time?
For some reason I stopped getting emails that there were comments on this post.
Anyway, I have grand notions that when the original gas engine goes in mine, I would install a small Kubota. I was going to see if PT would be willing to sell me about a 1' of tub with the thought of welding in an...
I will get a pick of the Forestry mulcher on the 1460 the next time I use it, which will prob be when I get the RUT rotary so as to compare the two different styles.
Sorry to be the odd guy, but aftermarket cutters seemed to have worked out all the PT deficiencies. They have no wheels, but that...
I made adapter plates for my 1430 & 1460 to SSQA and highly recommend it. I use a forestry mulcher on my 1460 and recently ordered a RUT rotary to compare the two (have to wait for it to be made)(link follows).
I have the PT brand rotary brush cutter for the 1430 and use it for a grassy field...
I would look for a timing issue. Make sure as the piston come up with the valves closed you get a spark at the top of the stroke, then watch what the valves are doing in relation to the piston position (the 4 strokes). Easy to do and no cost. Then go from there.
Roger on the brakes. My 1460 has 4 whl elect park brake, but I can only imagine how it would go in an emergency situation to try to find the identical brake toggle switch amongst all the others (Front lights, rear lights, draft control, PTO, seat adjust, did I miss any?
I am starting to wonder...
Thanks for bumping it for a review on cable operated treadle controls. I would like to bring up that since the PT has no brakes, all these components are your brakes! You should check for wear and loose parts to make sure you don't get a surprise at the wrong time. Even the roll pin that...
Out of necessity I found out what the black cylinder is. It has a push pull set of springs inside to center the tram pedal. Mine is stripped out and will not bring reverse back to center (the cable just comes out of the cylinder when it should be attached {by internal treads onto the cable}...
The owner is his own warranty station, I think the guy was just looking out for him and if he adds too much back pressure it could damage the perfectly good engine, and then it would be very quite.
As the title says, any know of sources for the group of magnets that hang down into oil reservoirs? I am about to change the oil on a old PT1430 and would like to drill/tap the cover and have removable magnets to filter out the steel in the oil flow. I use stainless wire now and just hang one...
I guess you have a few post on this problem. One thing I would do, since you are changing the engine anyway, is to have some fun doing some quick off-the-wall repairs with the original engine. Start with checking the valve rockers under the covers to see if everything is in the ballpark and...
I don't really understand what your trying to do here, a pic might help. Did you ever try the cable clamps? Like a miniature heavy duty muffler clamp. You could either collapse the eyelet onto the cable, or clamp it along side. Just a thought.
Great job. One thing to consider is a product like a copper shield as it prevents corrosion, promotes conductivity etc, so the clean connections you made, will stay that way. It can be expensive but what I have seems like it will last a lifetime. Amazon.com
I would call Terry at Power Trac with your S/N. Other than that, most trams have a fitting or bolt in the center portion that looks "different". You back that off and it will bypass. I always want to try mine before an emergency and then mark it in red paint. Maybe someday.
Some Moffet forklifts have an option to turn the front wheels 90 deg to go sideways and they can go through mud etc. That setup looks like it couldn't go up any incline even know it is 4x4.
Took it off the bucket, it is the most difficult to reattach that I have ever used!!!.. I had to get off the tractor and keep looking to line up, very precise with no entry ramp to guide it in.
It weighs too much.
Now I know why I don't see it much.
I used these windup traps and have caught 1/2 dozen at times before I got back to check them. Sometimes 2 mice go in and the 2nd jams the trap. Other then that they work great at weeding down the population to zero.
It is the Robin engine. Can't see a name on the carb. I am old school when carbs didn't have an electric solenoid and what looks like a stopper to cut off fuel. But since the engine was flooding out while running and was way over on the oil level, I would think it is the needle and seat. I...
Thanks.
The lock pins move relatively free, when I use a punch to retract them, the springs in the linkage actually move them back to where they started so I don't think they are the problem.
I have had it on a small machine using power down and curl and it stayed on. I inserted a pry bar and...
I used my PT018 last week with a homemade leaf dozer and everything was fine. I went to use it this week and it was difficult to start with black smoke. If I shut off my fuel tank valve, it then ran great as usual. The low oil alarm was also actuating on low RPMs.
It has a carb made in Japan...
Can anyone help identify this Melrose SSQA adapter to ?? It is on a large bucket and it is not coming off without a fight. I want to know if it is useful for anything before I cut off all the excess steel to lighten it up.
The top pins on the adapter hook into pockets on the bucket, then the...
Looking at your oil cooler hoses, you have to wonder if replacing ALL the original hydraulic hoses in the tub would be advisable? Wonder what the cost would be? Too bad PT doesn't offer a complete package, but maybe the price would scare everyone away.
If you find a good package for the hose...
I have a Excell mower with a 950 Kubota waiting for the day if the 18hp goes south in my PT018. That would be a major job, but as you indicated, it will be well worth the effort.
Agjones, please let me know if you ever want to sell yours.
