    Chains  Tire chains for ice??

Hi Guys, Need a little help here. The first significant snow of the season and I did it again! Pushed the snow too far over the bank, and couldn't back out. The heavy, wet snow immediatly turned to ice under the tires and bucket pushing with diff lock were not effective, as I had ZERO traction...

    Frost heaving porch

My daughter recently bought a "fixer upper" house in Waterville,Maine. It has a poured foundation with a full (but damp) cellar. Among the many challanges thusfar, is a barely supported porch. It was added after. The outer side of the 16'X8' enclosed, unheated porch was supported 2' above ground...

    Posting links

How do you post something (video) found elsewhere onto this forum? Or some of my own photos I'd like to share. Perhaps there is already a tutorial here that I missed.

    Rubber preservation

I recently retrieved 4 tires out of my shed to find two of them deflated. When inflating them, I could hear hissing-through the sidewalls!! They were rotted and cracked. When I put these (used one winter) studded snows away about 9 years ago, they were inflated and treated with either Armorall...

    JD 301 info needed

A friend recently got a JD 301 tractor/loader and is trying to find out anything about it - specs, hp, year, etc. He doesn't have a computer, so he called to ask if I could help. I checked JDparts.com, but no manuals are available. I haven't seen it, but he says it is in excellent cond. Thanks.

Recently, after a hard rain, I noticed "rabbit holes" next to the cement block foundation. Digging down to investigate, I found the outside of the blocks crumbled away below grade and the dirt was falling into the hollows. The blocks look fine from inside and above ground outside. The house...

    Oil & Fuel  diesel EGR

I've heard of exhaust gas recirculation on the new engines. Yet I see no evidence of EGR on my '04? JD 4310. Did I just beat a new EPA mandate? If so I'm glad, because although I'm all for clean air, EGR seems like a potential hassel and power parasite. I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong. Greg.

    small town neighbors

I remove the snow from around my garage and out buildings in addition to the driveway and what the roadplow leaves to a big pile at the back of my property. This aids visability when exiting the driveway and reduces mud in the spring. I also plow out the old widow next door and the diabetic...

manufacturing and wear debris in oil

I am disappointed that manufacturers do not make a greater effort to reduce this. Upon receiving any equipment, new or used, I install magnetic drain plugs (eng, trans, front&rear end, etc). One of the worst offenders was a new Suzuki MC that had whole curled chips from thread tapping in the...
