    Remove starter and use sand paper and sand the mating surface of the starter and mounting surface, for a good ground. Also while you have the starter out, see if it turns over OK with jumper cables.

    It sounds like the chassis grounds are not good. We have a MF135 that will do the same thing. clean the grounds and it starts on its own with no booster pack. When you put on a booster pack you are just giving it a better ground.

    I have used the HF set to do 1/2" black iron for natural gas pipe. Made about 20 threaded joints and also other jobs. Held pipe with a 24" pipe wrench on the floor with plenty of cutting oil. to this day there are no gas leaks.
