    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I'm guessing the tank pipe would have a filter but the parts diagram just shows the top mounting plate and a short portion of the pipe for compactness reasons. I would say it feels more like a vacuum between the tank/filter and pump. There is a return line to the tank and I would think that the...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I have pushed primer levers before and in this case there was no resistance other than the diaphragm spring. I pushed it as fast as my finger would move with no push back. I probably shouldn't have mentioned the air because it was not more than a gnat fart. The only reason I heard it is my ear...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I have a lifetime of engine experience but lacking knowledge of diesel fuel age problems. The pump is a diaphragm and I tried the priming lever in many different engine positions. Earlier in the thread I mentioned hearing slight air noises coming from the air filter while pushing the primer...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

That's right, your wording threw me off. The fuel comes out the top of the tank through probably a coarse filter, to the scew-on replaceable filter, fuel pump, and then to the injector pump.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Thanks, good info. No shutoff valve, lift pump, or water separator. Gravity flow to the filter.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Thanks for the reply! I'll post back with the problem when I work on the tractor after it warms up a bit. I got a hold of my technical manual and found out that the primer lever is a part of the fuel pump which is between the filter and injector pump. I'm certain by the feel that the primer was...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I heard about it a few days ago from another thread. It sounds similar to yours, blocking debris and water. So do you think diesel is OK no matter how old it is if contaminates are removed? I'm stressed out about a Caterpillar that is stored outside with a 70 gallon tank. I have always kept the...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I was there during a warm spell in the low 70's. Over the years generally 30's 20's but sometimes down in the teens.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I'll start at the tank and see how it goes, depending on what kind of yuck I find. If I get to the pump and injectors maybe the manual will fill me in on how to do that. In the "bad diesel" thread a few mentioned the Mr. Funnel. Do you have any experience with that?

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I went to the property for another reason and I was a bit rushed. Just wanted to run the tractor engine while I was doing other things. I agree, it does look like a bleeder and one of the first things I will do when I make it back up there. I also have a full maintenance manual that I can't get...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Thanks for the Chevron advice! I can't say for sure but it may be low sulfur. I may have heard the attendant complaining about a bad change in the fuel.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Not that it couldn't be bad again, but I replaced it about 10 years ago when I noticed it leaking. It's a 2001 Carraro TRX6400 with a VM Motori 61HP engine. Stored out of the weather in a barn. It has a 13 gallon plastic tank and there was about 2 gallons in the tank. Yes, I saw the big...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Thanks, I'll take a look in the tank, which is high up, and follow the outlet hose. The fuel filter hangs upside down so I can fill the new one with fresh fuel. The primer lever looks to be after the fuel filter flow wise. Is that mainly for bleeding air if the tractor was run out of fuel? It...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

I happened to catch a recent thread about diesel fuel after I posted mine that covers these issues. It was a small back road station. At the time I was using 5+ gallons per weekend in a larger piece of equipment so it was good savings.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

Hello all, I goofed up and let my tractor sit for too many years and now it won't run. It has heaters, and after the dash light went out it started immediately like it always does. It idled well for about 15 seconds, shut off, and will no longer start. There is a primer lever on the side of the...

Finish/Grooming Deck Made to be Run Backwards?

Hi all, I have a bit of a dilemma. I would like to buy a 3-point finish mower deck for my Carraro TRX. This is the tractor where the seat and controls can spin 180 so there really isn't a front and back to this tractor. I would like to run it backwards with rear wheel steering similar to a...

    Changing email here to Outlook

Hello all...I'm switching all of my email accounts from Comcast to Outlook and I'm getting a message here that my brand new Outlook address is banned. I tried another one of my new Outlooks addresses with the same result. I tried a Gmail account and the site took the change OK. Just wondering if...

    The Log house Project begins........

It could be that Rick's overhang is the only part that is condensing. Do you know if the roof over your house is condensing also M7? Here is the same pic from post #1752. The overhang is just a metal roof sitting on top of open 2X6's with no insulation. Being that the angle of the roof is...

    The Log house Project begins........

I'm not sure if this will help in any way. This overhang has a simple metal roof over open rafters and I get lots of rain under it. I haven't paid much attention to the conditions but I have noticed that sometimes there is frost on the underside of the roof. The overhang is pointing east and as...

Pennsylvania Clean and Green Tax Program

I have had it with taxes. My assessed value increased by a factor of 2.5 in one shot and I haven't done anything to the property since I bought it 3 years ago and it's just wooded mountainside with no structures. The county is really pushing the Clean and Green option but it sounds too good to...

Question about UG electrical service conduit to shop building

Running into a few rocks myself....maybe not sharp like yours though. I'm using stone dust in various places. It's ground up rock almost like sand. Pea gravel would work well also, whatever is cheaper in your area.

    mouse deterrant.....winters coming

I'm not sure if it was this thread or another mouse thread but I remember someone asking if the bucket trap without water would work. I keep a pail of the bait blocks on a shelf in the barn but I got tired of the tons of mouse droppings that were all around it. I guess even though it's sealed...

Reset thread to NOT read...Any way to do this??

Say I come across a very large thread with many pages and I decide I want to read it from the start over the next few weeks or whatever. Geothermal in power trench...Doable or Not?

I have to check if the power company will allow this, probably not. I need to dig an 1800' trench for power and I was thinking how nice it would be to slip 3600' of geothermal in there. Power companies will allow lots of stuff in the same trench but I think they want their cable to be on the...

    Help!!!! Japanese Stiltgrass Nepalese Browntop

Does anyone have any experience with this invasive grass? There is plenty of information on the Internet but I have so much of it that there doesn't seem to be a reasonable way to get rid of it. I bought wooded property about a year ago that had been lightly timbered in 2006. This stuff has...

    Trencher or Backhoe for 1500'

I'm extending power onto my property and I have a dilemma. The trench needs to be 1500' in length, 40" deep, and 8" minimum width for 3" conduit. I own a full size Deere 410 backhoe with a 12" bucket but 1500' seems to be an aweful long trench for a backhoe. I bought the hoe to build up the...
