What are you using to lube your implements and tractors?

I've been using marine grade grease and it seems to work well for me. No danger of rain washing it out.

    Fighting 'Solar Farm' Installation

This is another example of NIMBY when we really need to do more Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY) if the world is going to solve the current climate crisis. In Thurston County Washington I was on a committee that was reviewing how to rezone arable lands so that they remain farmable. We looked at...

    Educate me

20 years ago one of our local high school welding instructor offered a 4 week evening class introductory to welding. I always wanted to be able to weld and braze after working on a wheat ranch right out of high school. Took the class and one of the first things he said was that if you learn to...

Adding grab hooks on front bucket, 2 or 3 hooks?

My Kubota B8200 had a hole and thick steel post with a threaded hole on each side of the top edge I found a grade 8 metric bolt the right length and put a hook on each side. This was a few years after I welded some 1/2 X 2 steel to the top edge of the bucket and welded a single hook in the...

Adding grab hooks on front bucket, 2 or 3 hooks?

When I first started welding I told my uncle that I couldn't draw a very good bead and he said, "That's what they make angle grinder for." I'm a lot better now but still need the angle grinder on some of them.

Lifting safe - Ballast Box needed?

I built a counter balance for my tractor out of the innards of a water heater. cut it to the height I wanted left enough room at the top for the pins and mixed enough concrete to just below the pins. I have no idea what it weighs but has worked well on my little Kubota B8200. Stays close to...

    Wheelbarrow tires going flat

I converted both my wheelbarrows to dual tires. They are a lot more stable but as you said they don't corner quite as well. You can turn them sharply if not moving forward.

    Tiny tractor hay.

I started our farm with a used Kubota 8200 with FEL 19 horse, and 16 hp on the PTO. Over the years I bought a 4' brush mower, single 12" bottom plow, 6' backblade, 5' disc harrow, 5' tine harrow, sicklebar mower, ground driven side delivery rake, and a self propelled Massey Ferguson MF 10 baler...

    My Evolution of Burning Fires

I had a small burn pile when we first moved to our 23 acres 20 years ago. I decided that I didn't have them much stuff to burn so just started a couple brush piles for the rabbits and little birds. The piles slowly rot down and I add to them a little each year. Birds and rabbits love them and...

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

Always wear a long sleeve white shirt, white pants if you have a pair. They go after dark items. When I've run over them I just keep going at the maximum speed I safely can. Only been stung once on the tractor and it has no cab. Haven't had the same luck when walking with ground nesting...

    Storage in tube in loader

I'd be interested to see what you're talking about. I've set up a couple pieces of plastic pipe with metal plugs screwed to the pipe and mounted them with hose clamps to my ROPS. My FEL doesn't have any empty cylinders on it.

TRACTOR SLUNG PTO SHAFT!!! - PICS.

Reminds me of a safety lesson when I took firefighter training. They ran an unprotected PTO at 540 and took a dummy with a loose shirt, touched the shaft with the shirt and the dummy was wrapped so fast you couldn't see it happen.

Stuck knife head bolt — sickle bar cutter

Seville009 has the right idea. I'd use a pry bar or crow bar unless you have a very large screwdriver. After you get it out I'd replace all the knives, make sure you get the same size. Easy way to get the knives off the bar: 1. place an anvil on the ground and support the other end of the...

    What would you do ?

Nothing wrong with your memory, temps probably were about 10 degrees lower than they are today. In the summer of 1961 I worked on a wheat farm in Eastern Washington where humidity was low and temps were often near 100, when it hit 113 it was so hot and dry I could feel the moisture in my eyes...

    What would you do ?

If you have a vehicle that gets good mileage take that and go visit her. I'm sure that would please her much more than having you collapse from the heat.

Today, would you buy an EV vehicle.

Most EVs now have over 200 mile range on one charge and some are in the 350 to 400 mile range. Problem will be how fast can it recharge? You can fill a 20 gallon gas tank in about 5 minutes, EVs even at the maximum charge rate take at least 20 minutes.

Today, would you buy an EV vehicle.

I'm considering an EV car. Price is a big consideration. Read that GM dropped the price of the Bolt $6000. It doesn't qualify for a federal tax credit because GM has sold their quota of EV vehicles which qualify for the tax credit. I have a feeling it won't be long until all the EV...

    Mowing PTO plastic guard

I have three of these safety guards and love them. They make it so easy to connect to the tractor. Flip up the levers, slide the cover back, put on the pto shaft, slide the cover back into place and snap the levers back in place.

    Out of the norm question

Perhaps an easier solution is to talk with your neighbors, explain what you are doing and ask them if they have any concerns about your equipment being where it is. I presume what you are doing is basically a short term (less than 2 years) project. I would think your neighbors would be glad to...

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

Nope not just you. A sicklebar mower wouldn't handle 2 to 3" saplings, IMO.

King kutter bush hog not performing like I need it to. Help.

I have the same complaint about the tires flattening the grass and then the mower doesn't pick it up. Several years ago I asked about high lift blades, like the ones you can get for lawnmowers, no luck. I have a 4' mower on a tractor that is 5' wide and so I swing the mower to one side or the...

Why am I destroying tail wheel forks?????

Your tail wheel should support that back of the mower, and the lift arms the front. On my brush mower the toplink connects to a pivoting U bracket and I keep that so it is vertical when mowing. Basically the mower should float on the front with the lift arms supporting it and allowing it to...

    Draining my backyard swamp

When we built our arena we knew we had a water problem and I didn't have a backhoe so hired an operator to dig a 2' deep trench along the high sides and put 8" perforated drainpipe in the bottom sloped everything to the low side and filled the trench with about 1" drainrock. I call it a curtain...
