Snow Going through second stage bolts

I looked at the holes closer, and the back one was definitely elongated. I filled it with my mig welder and redrilled it so that it is tight now. I also rebolted it with a new 1/4" grade 8 bolt with a longer shank so that the shear area is not where threads are. It looks like more snow this...

Snow Going through second stage bolts

I have tried putting the bolt in both directions with no difference in time between shears. Here is a picture showing that it is shearing in the threaded area. I think the two tabs are the same basic thickness, so I think it shears at the same point whether it is put in from the front or the rear.

Snow Going through second stage bolts

Yes, I have the updated shear bolt setup in mine: Here is the bolt in the package from Kubota: The total distance of the two flanges lined up is around 3/4". The thread on the bolt could be 1/4" shorter in my opinion. And here is the head of the bolt. This is a grade 8 bolt, right...

Snow Going through second stage bolts

Here is a picture of a couple of the many sheared bolts: More interestingly, here is one that was in the tractor for about 10 minutes: You can see how it is already getting beat up. Looking at the tab where the shear bolt goes in, it is a bit loose, especially the back tab. I tried...

Snow Going through second stage bolts

One more thing, the U joint at the gear box as a little loose and had a bit of wobble to it. I tightened down the set screw on the side and this quieted things down a bit, so I will see if this will help. I did one pass of some drifted snow this morning and no shear failure, but only about 10...

Snow Going through second stage bolts

The U joints appear to be in phase to me. I did not see any other problems. The gear reduction seemed to be fine. There was one long bolt on the side that was loose which I tightened, but in general everything seems fine. There is a little play in the front U joint to the shaft, but not very...

Snow Going through second stage bolts

The snowblower is a 2782. Attached are photos of it as well as the bolts that I got from the dealer. I filled the gearbox as suggested. It was maybe 25% down. The fan spins really freely when there is no shear bolt in, and the shear bolt fits really tight. Let me know if you see anything wrong.

Snow  Going through second stage bolts

On my first plow of the year I went through a couple of second stage bolts on my Kubota snowblower. I thought it was from the wet snow, but today we had 6 inches of dry snow, and I went through 3 more. I did not see that I was hitting anything, it seemed like if I even loaded it up much they...
