    It looks like there are hydraulic rams on each end of the depressed center part of the car and it seems to be made to ride extremely close to the rails presumably for maximum overhead clearance. My guess would be that they are there to control the rams to raise and lower the center of the car...

    Funny thing is, I haven't been back to this museum since 1991 and most of these things HAVE been restored (or at least painted) since then. Probably need it again by now. Just looked on the web and can't find any current piccy's of this unit though.:)

    B & O #50 - EMD Experimental Boxcab Diesel from 1935. National Museum of Transport 8/91. This unit had two, 12-cylinder Diesel engines, originally used for passenger service, then, retired as a local freight engine from the GM& O RR in 1958.

    I used to live about 1/2 block from the UP mainline, close enough I could smell the exhaust when they went by. Could see them through the trees when the leaves were off. Loved it, but then again, I'm weird....
